  1. Hmm...a buddy of mine swears by the Koenig hammer...he's up in Cedar Falls, runs a Bedell that functions perfectly. Let me know if you want his number/contact info - he might be able to help.
  2. Why would he spend money on it? Springfield will pay for shipping both ways and fix any issues? That's a legitimate questions...knowing this guy, he won't want to admit the guns don't run properly. Who knows...he's an odd duck.
  3. I "know" of a guy who bought two Range Officers and neither one will run through two mags without some type of issue. Whether it's FTF, FTE, etc., with what he spent on those two pistols, he could have gotten something much better ad reliable. Ironically, I had (key word, HAD) an SA Loaded Target and experienced similar issues. Went to an STI Trojan and have never looked back. If you can find a Spartan, take a hard look. If you can swing the added cost of a Trojan...look harder.
  4. That does look a bit rougher than my last one, but I tend to smooth things up more than they come.
  5. Glad to see the OP has gotten things ironed out. I initially had troubles with my Trojan .40 nosediving using Tripp Cobra mags. When I asked Virgil Tripp about the issue, he politely asked me to ship the gun and mags down and he would "get his hands on it." Had it back a week later and the gun runs perfect. Hmmm, that feed ramp looks a little different.
  6. +1 for CR Speed. I use both belts and use a combination of BladeTech holsters and mag pouches with the TekLok system. That way I can easily switch things our from SS to L10, where I am using a different holster/mag pouch set-up.
  7. I have been pretty happy with my Tripp mags. You can get the 8-rounders to seat with a larger magwell, but you do have to ram it in. With the S&A magwell, anything fits. I have also had great success with Tripp's service...top notch!
  8. Marv - you are correct. You can change the insert and it makes it the no gap.
  9. I just put the Gap version on my STI Trojan - cosmetically, the no-gap version is nicer, but I didn't want to fork out more $$$ to replace the basepads on my Tripp mags. For the OP - that is the main difference: No-Gap = different basepads (usually) and Gap = mags work fine with original basepads. For the extra $70 in new pads, it was not worth it to me, but that's a personal choice.
  10. Seeing how I just replaced my S&A magwell/msh with the Dawson Ice (which also comes as a separate msh and magwell, but need to be used together) I will try and weigh them both, but I honestly didn't notice much of a difference in weight. The DP seemed a little lighter as the S&A has some heft to it. Jesse, you will see the difference this weekend at the match, so you can kind of judge what you think. Correct me if I am wrong, but the Techwell must use their grips, right? Don't they have a proprietary "locking" of the grips/magwell together? Personally, I like the S&A and the DP since you can use whatever grips you want...for me, it was in conjunction with VZ Operator II grips...
  11. I don't have enough posts to put up the link to their site, but if you google Tripp Research, then you will find it...or just put in .com after trippresearch and you will be good to go. Simply call them and usually you will end up talking to Virgil, Shari (his wife) or Aaron. They are located in Texas...used to be in Alpine, but they have been in the process of moving to Bastrop, TX. I was lucky to get mine down there while Virgil still had everything he needed at their old facility, hence why it only was there for about 5 days and then back to me. Wait might be a little longer now that they are trying to get everything in one location, but you should call them to find out. Hope that helps.
  12. Just got my .40 Trojan back from Virgil Tripp and it will now run anything. Before, with 165gr flat-nose, it would nosedive using either a full 9-round or 10-round mag, but now runs like a champ with no issues! I can tell that he worked on the feedramp - so, based on what many others have said about that being the prime issue, that was the key for mine particular pistol.
  13. Just sent my Trojan down to Virgil Tripp as I was having nose-dives, too. He said, "Let me play with it a bit, I kinda know my way around and STI..." - I had to laugh out loud at that!!! Pretty confident it will come back running like a champ!
  14. Another vote for the VZ Operator II - have them on my .40 Trojan and they have fantastic grip. Buddy of mine swapped his out from his SA to the VZ grips.
