Another related question. With 1.154 OAL, bullet length 0.543, case is 0.739. That puts the bullet in contact with 3.0 gr of Clays. Any pressure issue? I may go back to east 200 gr SWC in the .45. Less concerns with BIG BRASS. :-)

Hello all Any recommendations for OAL and crimp for 115 gr bayou bullet in Spartan 1911? My test rounds so far are around 1.15-1.16 for OAL. Crimp is around .371. Seems too much but it falls into barrel without any snag. Thanks JT

Perfect! Another reason for me to "not like" (the actual word use HATE of been exceeded) California! Although that may have been the most entertaining bit of literature Ive read in a while! +1 on the iphone interfernce! Wednesday I loaded 300+ rounds of 4.3 Clays. Yesterday, I sat down to load again and doing my "due diligence" I ran a few loads for weighing just to make sure no gremlins messed with any adjustment.. Several loads that I expected to be 4.3 were 4.7g-5.4g. I had an "OSCAR SIERRA" moment, thinking the previous 300+ rounds were worthless and dangerous. I even pulled a few apart to weigh the powder. I broke out the old beam scale, 4.3-4.4 five loads in a row. Then I realized my iphone was on the bench <8" away from the digital scale. Mystery solved.

How about pics of the new blaster Bud..?!? Stop posting that pistol! Makes me want to get a HC Trojan every time. Sorry for the poor quality 3gs iphone aint so bueno as a camera. Since the pic, got a blk DP ICE mag well and F/O front installed. Now the lern'in begins...

Just a quick range report on the new lawman. 7 yds, standing/braced Its nice to have faith in the hardware... now if I can just get the other half of the equation figured out!!

Thanks to all that added their input. Bit of a change to original game plan. A local gun shop had both the Trojan and a lawman for comparison. The Lawman was very similiar to the trojan, except for a few options: More aggressive front strap checkering, lower profile novak adj. sights, forged steel frame,Slide is forged barstock, aluminum STI trigger, and a steel MSH. Basically for a little more $$ it just felt better in my hand. FWIW. Looking forward to breaking it in soon thanks again

Thanks to all who replied! All very valid points. As mentioned $1k for a toy indeed. Exactly my point and why I have concern on making the educated choice. Yes, was asked if I reload. I do for both 45 and 40. I will check out Brazos and gunbroker. I was focused on DP because they are local and of course DD reputation as a smith. So far, the TROJAN certainly has the nod. So... about when I think I've decided, I change my mind again. I keep debating on getting a pretty nice (spartan) "turn key" option with no real add ons or mods needed. OR a NICER option(trojan),a bit higher quality pistol that still requires a few bells and whistles ($$$ possible trigger work, mag well, and possibly later refinished $$$) So I thought I'd pick a few brains for your opinion. I have a RIA tactical that I am more than pleased with and serves me well. BUT I've wanted an STI 1911 for quite a while. Here's the big picture: $1159- Spartan that has been HC by Dawson Precision as well as getting tuned up by DD (slide/frame fit and trigger smoothed and lightened 3.5 lb) Also comes with DP F/O front and DP ICE magwell. $999- Base model Trojan. Promo of perfect impact F/O front sight as well. look forward to some input. THANKS JT

10-4. Thats where I found the 7.8 data. Thanks for the info on your 8.1 load. Was this from a 5" 1911?

I decided to try No 5 because of the smaller "size" and "shape" unlike clays and WST and RED DOT (flake) do not meter well in a RCBS Uniflow powder measurer. No 5 is relatively fine granual. Each load has +/- .01-.02 ANYWAY..... Ive found very limited load data. Anybody have a proven recipe for Accurate No 5 and 200 gr SWC? So far 7.8 is all I can find. Gracias!

+1 Mike @ Mastercast has "softer" cast bullet for .45 FWIW- The phone # I have for him is 618-529-1535. Ordered last week. 2000 delivered for $125 is hard to beat. (200g SWC)
