We got to shoot this stage today. Had to tweak it a little to fit the bay but I am happy with the way it turned out. As far as I know there were no DQs on this stage but the scores haven't been posted yet. Thanks to Dave Butler at SCCC for including this in his match!

Thanks Dave! I appreciate the comments. I've made a few more stages and I don't see how stage designers do it every week for us shooters. I've found a new level of respect for match directors and stage designers. I will try to come up with some that will be usable and help out where I can. For those that don't know, Dave puts on one hell of a match. He isn't kidding about his freestyle stages, they are FUN!!

LeRoy, Thanks for the comments. Yes, swinger will be started from behind the barrel. I just put it like that so I would know it was there lol. The four targets on the right are behind hard cover. Wall is around 3' tall. I really like your suggestions and here is a revision. Thanks, Matt

Hey everyone, This is my first stage design, Rack-naphobia. I went through many versions before I settled on this one. What do you think? Anything I should be aware of or something I missed or needs to be changed? Does it look fun or something you would like to shoot? I appreciate all comments and criticisms. I have the WSB as start facing up range, toes on Xs, hands above shoulders. Handgun loaded and holstered. Engage as and when visible within fault lines. Matt

Hey everyone, I found some old cast lead bullets for my .45 that have been sitting around for about 13 years. I see that lead will harden over time. Is there such a thing as too old of cast bullets to use? Should I just melt them down and re-cast them? Thanks, Matt

I was in the exact position you are. I quit in 98 and started again earlier this year. When I rejoined USPSA I got my old classification and member number. When I renewed I called in and they were surprised that all the old info was in there and not deleted. Matt

Thanks for all of the input. I didn't intend to use the different colored A zone for a bullseye, just that most steel I've seen is already painted white. I was going to do it more out of laziness lol. I came up with the idea after watching a video of Todd Jarrett explaining how to shoot on the move. He was using several full sized white steel IPSC targets. I don't think I would use an all white target because knowing me I would shoot at all the no shoots in a stage. So I thought, hey to save some money get an A zoned sized steel plate and put it over the A zone of a regular target. That way if I was shooting at 25 yards I wouldn't have to go down range every 6 or so shots for feedback. I guess I didn't convey what I was thinking because it was 2am, oops I'm still kicking the idea around. Thanks, Matt

Hello, I was wondering what everyone thought about a different colored A zone for practice? What I was thinking about doing was getting a few A zone sized steel targets and setting them up to not fall. I might put the steel in front of a regular target. It would be easier than pasting targets when I'm shooting by myself. I thought about the full sized steel targets but I wouldn't know what zone I hit without painting every time. Would having a different colored A zone affect anything when shooting regular targets in a match? Does it matter? Should I just try and match the cardboard color? I'm probably over thinking it and just kicking the idea around. Thanks, Matt

I had to post what I'm sure most of you already know. Shooter's Connection has great customer service I placed an order on Tuesday at 3:18 online with with two gear setups. 2 belts, 10 mag pouches, 2 holsters and a bunch of random stuff. One of the holsters was for a special order blade tech doh for my full dust cover 2011, they didn't have one on the website. At 3:30 I reveived a call stating that they had a regular doh in stock that wasn't on their website and I could add a tec lock to save me a three week special order from blade tech. Also with the BE discount it came to the same price as the special order even with having to add a tec lock. That call and going the extra mile is much appreciated. That's what I was afraid of. I have a 550 now. I bought the brass for $55 and the guy delivered it to my work as he is local. I didn't know any better to ask if it was NT brass. I guess I will buy some non crimped .40 and save the NT for when I get me a 1050! Thanks guys, Matt

Hey everyone, I am getting a rig set up to shoot limited. Over the last couple of weeks I have been gathering up components and supplies to reload .40. It is a new caliber for me. So I order 2000 pieces of once fired brass. When it comes in it is all Win NT. Looking around the forums I noticed a lot of people (that find it as range brass) discard it due to the crimp. I am wondering if I should get a swager but that seems like a lot of steps to get to reloading. Decap, swage, run through the U die then reload. I guess I could resell the brass then try to find some of the non crimped. Man, I guess I'm just rambling now. I would really like to get a 1050 and roll with that because I am sure I will find more NT brass at the range. Any advise? What would you do? I appreciate all the help I can get. Matt

Hello everyone, My name is Matt. I used to shoot back when there were only two divisions, open/modified and limited. I was surprised when I was cruising the web and found all of the different divisions now. Back in, I guess, '98 I shot Limited. The pistol I started out with was a Colt 1991 that I modified to be more competitive. I did all the work myself and you could tell LOL. New hammer and sear, Ed Brown beavertail, bomar rear sight, blended magwell, and a spray on baked teflon coating. At the time I couldn't afford a match barrel but I think it shot pretty well. The trigger job turned out great at a crisp 2.5 lbs. I was proud of that thing. I had so much fun shooting every week at the club practice and matches on the weekends. I even squeaked out a C class card my first go around. I think I could have done better but choked on a couple of qualifiers. I only shot that one season and had to quit for a number of personal reasons. I really missed the sport. Back in 03 I had to have back surgery and picked up a ton of weight. Fast forward to present day. A friend at work was talking about guns and I started talking about the good ol' days of practical shooting. He seemed really interested so I went to do some research. I guess it lit a fire and I want to get back into it. He may start as well. He kicked cancers ass TWICE and had to subsequently have like 9 knee surgerys among others. So, he isn't very mobile (neither am I) but I told him he could just walk the stages and shoot and still have fun. He will be shooting production and I'm not sure what I'm going to try. I am buying a used Limited gun in .40 but I'm torn between that and SS or L-10. Maybe all 3? The weight is still on me plus some. Hopefully the sport will inspire me to drop some tonnage LOL. I've been reading the forums a lot. Seems to be a great wealth of knowledge and great people here. I hope to see you at a match in the near future! Matt
