  1. What weight of bullet and charge? Any chrono data? I use N330 for .40S&W and was thinking of trying it for 9mm minor. For minor I am loading a 147gr Bayou Bullet over 3.8gr of N330 @ 1.135 OAL = PF:136 from my Sig P226. A little hot for some who really want a powder puff but it's still soft shooting and was the most accurate with a nice 3" group at 25 yards in my gun. PM with your email and I am happy to send you my chrono spreadsheet.
  2. I have some friends with the ESP digital ears and while my ears are worth it...my wallet isn't there. Currently I have the custom molded Westone High Noise - Style 47-40 convertible and I am looking for an electronic muff to wear over the top when indoors or at the range when guys are shooting the big rifles. I am in the same boat as this whole thread - do I go with the Supreme Pro X @$250 from SRS Tactical or with the Tactical Pro @160 from Amazon? 1 yr vs. 5 yr warranty ect... decisions, decisions...
  3. The 147 Bayou Bullet is extremely accurate at 25 yards out of my P226. Have not tested at 50 yards...I can't see that far anyway.
  4. I am really digging this bullet and just ordered another 3k ($239 delivered) from Donnie. Soft shooting, no smoke, clean barrel, clean handeling and Laser accuracy at 25 yards - 3.8gr N330, 1.135 COAL, 136 PF in my Sig P226. I know that's a little hot for some but I found that accuracy at 25 yards suffered with lighter loads in my gun.
  5. Another vote for VV - but I use N330 in my 9mm loads.
  6. I run the Bayou Bullet 147 at 1.135. I believe the Bear Creek uses the same Magma Engineering mold.
  7. I highly recommend one of these spent primer upgrades.
  8. Don't get me wrong, I lhave lots of love for PV - it's just that they often don't have what I want in stock when I want it. My point is paying a little more - especially in quantity is just not that big a deal. I know everyone understands that...so I will stop talking now.
  9. Hmmm, let's see. 7000 gr per pound, 28000 gr per 4 lb jug, 3.7 gr load - a $20 price differential is .0026 cents per load or $2.64 per thousand. For that premium, I think I will keep buying the powder I want from a source that has it when I want it - but that's just me...YMMV. small price to pay, I'm just too cheap! LoL... cheers!
  11. Sure! I run N330 in my 9mm loads. I buy it in 4 lb jugs from Sinclair - just looked and it is in stock.
  12. I'm running 3.7 N330 under a 147 gr Bayou Bullet in my P226. I buy N330 in 4lb jugs from Sinclair.
  13. When I got my 35P, I shot out a side rail the first time out...D'oh! Now I keep spare parts on hand. So, 1 maimed but no deaths.
  14. When developing rounds, I load of 10 of each to test functionality and hone in on my velocity target. For final testing I bracket the velocity target and load 30 rounds of each - 20 for the chrono and 10 to test accuracy before I go into production with my final selection.
  15. Picked up a used Oehler 35P a couple of months ago and just love it. Of course I shot out the side support for one of the skyscreens first time out - D'oh! ...now I keep extra parts on hand in the unlikly event that occurs again.
  16. While there is a tremendous amount of information for the new reloader to get started developing loads, there does not appear to be much information on the "how to" of accuracy testing. Share your best practices here for all of us.
  17. Of the first 5 test loads, I loaded 25 of each to test function and velocity. Now that I've bracketed my PF target, I will load more of those and test further with a longer test string over the chrono and accuracy test off the bench at 25 yards or even longer based on what I'm reading. With regard to flip & recoil, all the initial test loads were soft shooting with a negligible flip when compared to WWB, UMC, or Blazer. There was no smoke or smell that I noticed with the the Bayou Bullet and no leading in the barrel after the 125 round test. I would also say that overall the gun was cleaner than after a typical range session with production ammo leading me to believe the N330 burns cleaner.
  18. I'm really liking Bayou Bullets 147 - green molly coated bullets. Soft shooting and accurate so far but I am still testing.
  19. Thanks. Yes, I am looking for a tight group at 20-25 yards. Based on the above chrono results, does anyone think I should be looking beyond the 3.6, 3.7 & 3.8 grain loads?
  20. Working up a new load with VV N330 over a Bayou Bullets fpbb 147g bullet. Shooting a stock 9mm Sig Sauer P226 over an Oehler 35P OAL:1.135 Crimp:.378 Temp:85 Humidity:72% Cases:Mixed Primer:WSP 3.2 grains N330 AVG:818 ES:18 SD:6 PF:120 3.4 grains N330 AVG:855 ES:32 SD:11 PF:125 3.6 grains N330 AVG:880 ES:22 SD:8 PF:129 3.8 grains N330 AVG:929 ES:34 SD:13 PF:137 4.0 grains N330 AVG:959 ES:35 SD:14 PF:141 All loads functioned flawlessly in the P226. I plan to move forward with accuracy testing of the 3.6 & 3.8 load as well as try a 3.7 load. Goal is to develop a sweet shooting minor load for IPDA/USPSA. Since I am a relatively new reloader, I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
  21. This looks interesting....has anyone used this brass cleaning system?
  22. This question came up on the 1911 forums a couple of months ago. In a post dated 2/17/11, Brad Alpert - Owner of Missouri Bullet Company posted the following: "I use 1.065 for OAL for that bullet in my 1972 Belgian Browning Hi-Power. Works great with HS-6. Had keyholding with longer length." FWIW, I think I would listen to the guy that makes the bullets in question.
  23. There is a guy on eBay that sells a Dillon XL 650 spent primer 'upgrade' for around $20. At the heart of it is a very well made funnel & bracket that replaces the primer cup bracket. Then a tube feeds into their mounted jar - or in my case I used a longer tube going to a receptical on the floor. For me it beats a homemade solution. Of course YMMV.
  24. I'm working up a load with a Bayou Bullet 147 over N330 to shoot in my P226. Once I've chronoed and tested for accuracy I will post the data.
