Interested in the 5.25 9mm but can't find one locally to grip/feel. There is, however, a 5.25 45acp. Will the two feel pretty darn similar in the grip? The local dealer with that 45 was not 100% sure if the 9mm's grip was identical in width and all measurements. Understandably they'd feel different fully loaded due to bullet weight.

Called every shop looking for the 9L. Futile. The last shop employee I spoke to said they just completed a armorer's course with the 4-state S&W rep who said there will not be a Apex-like 9 Pro due to liability reasons. Sending out a lighter quicker more comp ready 9mm isn't in the cards.

Thinking of going back to Production and the M&P9L is 1 of 2 candidates (had one last year with Apex sear and block, sold it due to long trigger which has been addressed by Apex obviously). Read online the 9L is discontinued. Called a few shops in case they had one laying around. Nope. All 9Pro. Without starting any drama or spreading rumors, and maybe I'm the last to know since being out of the Production loop for a year, the S&W rep said there is a new revised 9Pro coming out with a stock trigger feel, action, weight and reset that addresses the issues owners have when going to Apex. Available in a few months. Of course it's his job to market and hype S&W firearms. "No need for the Apex kits with the new Pro trigger." The gun shop basically said "you can buy this Pro here or online but I'd wait for the revised trigger. Completely different gun. Go online and maybe you can find some info trickling in." I can't hence this post. Any info on a revised 9Pro that has a great stock trigger?

Question. I'm frugal and shoot the 9mm 1911 in IDPA only. Having 10 vs 9 has been discussed at length and after reviewing all input decided the 9-round $15 mags are "good enough" for my needs as long as reliability/feeding is 100%.

I have a PII 1.5" with edges dehorned. For the money it's a great value for my needs. Second best trigger of my collection; not factory. Worst stock finish of my collection (and this includes a STI Spartan). I think the 3" PII is a fantastic 1911 45 for anyone interested in a nice higherend 1911. Or better yet a Concept III. I'd be looking for a good 'smith to replace that front sight for a f/o though.

I run ismi 17# mainspring and 10# recoil spring. Internals have been cleaned and polished and lightly lubed. Reloads from 124 to 147 all feed and eject perfectly. Trigger is not only light but very smooth with quick return. Seamless. Front sight returns to position quickly and the Spartan has a very quick yet predictable feel in my hands. Oh, grips are stock cheapy wood ones with grip tape cover.

At the matches I've been to where several new shooters show up together they do everything to make sure the newbies are not all squadded together. I understand two new shooters who are friends may feel comfortable squadding, and that seems to be okay, but the MD likes having the safety and knowledge factor of experienced gamers help the new guy/girl along. Three or more new shooters get put in different squads. Seem 3 or more turns into a major break in concentration and safety due to lots of talking and reliving the moment of success or failure instead of making ready or picking up brass, etc.

Just back from testing and fine tuning. 5" 1911 barrel. Always use WST. Current 9mm is 125 grain moly Bear Creek TC or RN. OAL was 1.120 up to 1.126. Charge was 4.1 to 4.4; it's about 45d F. the past few days air temp. Accuracy was best at 4.3. Feeding and ejection perfect. The above ranks next to 4.5 WST 9mm FMJ Montana Gold at 1.150 as my favorite pet load with good accuracy and quick front sight return, but that OAL worked in a M&P 5". My unramped STI Spartan prefers shorter OAL. Lee factory carbide die crimper in Station 4 out of a 550b, mixed headstamps and Federal primers always.

I am unable to find more from CDNN. The ones I did get are perfect and I'd like to find more. Anyone have a source with great pricing and realistic shipping?

Thanks for all the input. Just had lunch with my friend who is an optometrist and a shooter. He says green is the color the human eye picks up quickest in most lighting conditions.

Did you take advantage of the "free" f/o front sight Dawson offers on some of their STI? All of my STI Spartans have the somewhat-wide and dim f/o from factory (plans to thin one ourselves and slap a brighter green rod in), but we're buying another one and was thinking of having the front installed.

Though I have yet to get the trigger guard under cut, I cannot find a reason to buy a 9 or 45 game gun other than a Spartan. Some grip tape, new springs, maybe a thinner f/o front sight, polished and tweaked internals. Out to 20 yards I don't see a diff in performance even compared to my $2500 1911. They're ugly, the finish is cheap, some have had issues with some ammo. For my current needs and ability I keep coming back to the $628 Spartans. Doesn't make me cringe like I do when a shiny fancy 1911 is holstered and dropped.

At the time I was not into gaming nor reloading. Almost put the Dawson rear sight on but it's a moot point: firearm was sold.

STI Spartan at $628 delivered from Oak Hill Enterprises (I believe that's the name). Others will chime in with their 1911 opinion and direct you toward good gear.

All the testing is done. Accuracy, feeding, ejection are all what I'm looking for while making a little above min PF. The timer shows things are pretty even; I'd probably be quicker with some fundamental work on draws and grip as opposed to splitting hairs about bullet weight. So now it comes down to the flippy feel of a 124 vs the soft push of a 147. Testing over the past month or so has me split. I shoot 45 also and the 147 feels like a baby 45 out of my 9mm 1911, but the traditional feel of the 124....I dunno. I am running a 10# recoil right now but can change back to the oem RS; casings spit out nicely and gun stays flat in hands. Any of you had to make the decision which to choose? Hindsight tell you the right choice was made or you should've went with the other weight?

Good input by all. I ordered the PM9 a loooong time ago it seems. Owned a Spartan 45 at the time, among others, and thought "hey, I'll get a 9mm Spartan to practice and play until the DW9 shows up." Time goes by. The darn cheapy Spartan 9mm was like cheating due to the lack of recoil, reliability and accuracy up to 20 yards. Plus it's so ugly to begin with and inexpensive that I never hesitated to totally hammer it in practice like I do while gently carrying my safe queens from foam protection to thick work pad to......yeah, stupid. Right now I'm practicing draws and transitions and I truly do not know why I'd need a $1500 9mm for gaming. I may keep the PM9 just to own one. Thank you all for taking the time to comment.
