  1. IMHO...If your trying to win the national championship...It matters. If you are just out to have fun and become a better shooter I don't think it is a deal breaker.
  2. Ruger Mk III 22/45... C-More Red Dot ... Volquartsen Trigger Kit ... Ahh, the cheap way to practice
  3. I've like red...though now that I'm shooting Open when go back to the fiber optic and treat it like a dot...
  4. If they can all still fit into one picture........
  5. I love mine! Do I shoot with people with fancier guns? Sure... Do I shoot with people that are better than me? Definitely... I do feel like MM is a high enough quality firearm that the gap between me and the best is not equipment based rather it is all on me...and let's just say I have a ways to go I've have not put it into a rest to measure. It is definitely more accurate then me However, I can consistently shoot 2-3 inch groups at 75ft freestyle...The first time I shot a 10 shot group at 150ft it was a 6 incher. IMHO that is more than accurate enough for our game. Once I got a reasonable accurate, reliable load I moved on spending my time perfecting other aspects of my game that are larger "blockers." It is extremely light and quick...A full size is going to be steadier and a little slower. A full size is also going to add .85" to your barrel. While it not seem like much I'm sure it would make a difference. Unfortunately, I do not have a full size to directly compare it with. I'd recommend asking some of your local shooters if you can feel and/or test fire their race guns...I'm sure most will be happy to oblige. I run 8gr of N350 ... with a 124gr CMJ MG and Win SPMP.
  6. ^Yep...Really easy to do. Mine was under the foam in the case my gun came in.
  7. I do the same thing ... Dummy rounds are the only nickel brass ... Live rounds are not allowed in the room where the dummy's are stored and I dry fire. If it makes you feel safer you might as well drill some holes too... Safety first!

    Powder

I use N320 for 9mm minor...IMHO even the most expensive powders are not significantly more expensive when you take into consideration how much you spend on the other components and how far the powder goes.
  9. As some of the above posters mentioned...I also use the CMJ with zero exposed lead to theoretically minimize leading in the comp of my open gun. Therefore I also use them in my 9mm minor loads so that I don't have to buy two different bullets.
  10. I've had one for 38 Super for a while and really like it. I just picked up a 45 one...Figured it couldn't hurt. Course I still run things through a chamber gauge... I'll do just about anything to avoid a malfunction
  11. Let us know how it goes! I forgot to ask...Does the same thing happen with factory ammo?
  12. I don't think that you should get any bulge on a minor 9mm load. Bulge is one of the high pressure warnings. My 9mm minor rounds are 1.142. I agree with Roy and Yoshidaex that your length seems a little short. Also I use regular small pistol primers for minor loads. It seems like magnum pistol primers would be overkill for minor 9mm. I don't know if that is a published load but I recommend finding a published load and starting about 15% under...Find a chrono and slowly work your way up till your happy. Safety first! Just my two cents
  13. Thanks! I got some in the tumbler right now. I'll report the results. While the problem didn't *go away*, it's still not as smooth to load as the fired brass I've used, but it's a LOT better than it was. On the upstroke, I was having to stop at the point where it was *stuck* and almost get underneath the handle to push it somewhat smoothly (in order to not upset the case and spill powder out of it). My arm was real sore afterwards. Today, after tumbling the rest of the brass, the tightness was still there, but not even close to what it was. It was more just noticable than a problem. I'm definitely doing this from now on. Thanks for the tip Paul!! Good advice! I'll have to experiment with that too. I've experienced it with new Starline 38 Super +P brass. Once fired can be a little "sticky" but not even close to new. I've also experienced it with new Starline 45ACP brass. Have not experienced it with new Winchester 38 Super +P brass.
  14. Well, it's taken me a long time to get a picture posted...but in my defense I've been awful busy shooting it
  15. That's exactly why I use CMJ...anything to keep the comp cleaner
  16. So this might sound a little silly...but are any of those other brands not silver colored? I was thinking about it and I would prefer my small pistol primers and my small pistol magnum primers to be visibly different
  17. I'm going to start with the following and go from there...DP is running three weeks late on the gun though so I still have some waiting Bullet: MG 124gr CMJ Powder: N350 (Planning on experimenting in the near future with some of the others like N105 ) OAL: 1.235 Primers: CCI SMPP Case: Brass, Starline 38 Super +P Thanks again both of you! -Tim
  18. Thanks for all the information everyone. I ordered 2 170s and 3 140s for starters Thanks, -Tim
  19. So I did run a search and found the following: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89525&st=0&p=1028519&hl=170mm&fromsearch=1entry1028519 My first open gun will be here in about a month and I was curious what type of setups people are using for USPSA (or other if you want to share )? I currently use a CR Speed Rig for Limited-10. I am planning on using the same rig (since it is fully adjustable…one of the reasons I bought it) for open. Therefore my main question is about magazine “strategy.” I understand that it would be terrible to run out of ammo…but there is also no point in carrying a ton of extra weight around with you (I might not be able to move if I have 6 170mm mags ). What do you all start with and what do you have waiting on your belt? I think I would prefer to almost always run the same setup...something to be said for consistency.
  20. First, I'd like to thank those who have responded again...it really helps! Sounds like I should start with regular old 38 Super +P...and worry about 38 Super Comp another day. .355 it is then! CCI Small Pistol or Magnum Small Pistol...Besides making sure it can handle the pressure are there any reasons to use one or the other? Thanks! -Tim
  21. Thanks for all the suggestions! I will ask Dawson if they have any recommendations. Barring more suggestions...it looks like I will start with: Bullet: 115 and 124/125 Powder: N350 and N105 OAL: 1.235 Primers: Case: However, I do have a couple more questions: Do you recommend .355 or .356 bullets? What type of primers are you all using? Small Rifle? Small Pistol? Other? I've been reading on this forum about 38 Super vs. 38 Super Comp. Have any of you had issues with 38 Super reliability? Do I need to have Dawson tune the extractor to 38 Super Comp instead of 38 Super? Sorry for all the questions...but there is so much to learn Thanks! -Tim
  22. You mean there is more than one? Thankfully, Yes. At least those of us who live on the right side like to think so. Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! And yes, I do live on the "right" side of Washington...That being the west side
  23. I'm planning on using it for USPSA matches. I am intrigued by Steel Challenge...but one thing at a time
