  1. I have both, I love the RTF2. It is very aggressive and very hard on clothing. I wear Dri-Fit shirts for match shooting and they get all frayed up from the RTF2 If you use grip tape such as tru-grip it feels close to that in texture.
  2. Thanks for the tip, I am going to order some 147's next. Do you have an recomendations for TG under the 124's? I am doing better in the accuracy department but I need to really work on speed now. When I try and go fast my points down really begin to add up :-) or in USPSA my 2 alphas go to Charlie mikes.... This is really a fun hobby though!
  3. I was thinking about that yesterday.... I guess I will go back to being Paul the old guy! I already have some 124 MG hollow points ordered. I wish they would hurry up and get here. I have 500 pcs of brass cleaned primed and flared.... I used Tite Group, 4.8 grns I think. I am going to use the tite group for the 124's also if I get some 147's I will probably use a different powder.
  4. I loaded up 500 rounds using 115grn MG's, (Thanks to first class bullets and brass, they upgraded me from 115grn generics) any way, there was an IDPA Classifier this weekend. I was previously un-classified and I shot my own hand rolled bullets and I scored a 162.49 Not great for you rock star types but good enough for 2nd place in the marksman group I had 2 failure to feeds or so I thought..... I think I have developed a habit of riding the slide stop on my G-17....
  5. Well, that answers that. I didn't read that line. I guess I will just keep shooting my .40 in the USPSA matches until I can afford an open gun Or until I get so good that every target is 2 alpha and then it wont matter

    9 major

Would you shoot 9 major out of a glock 17 or would that be ill advised? I am presently shooting USPSA with my Glock 22 and IDPA with my Glock 17. I am just starting to re-load and wondering if I should try shooting my my Glock 17 using 9 major loads?? Keep in mind I am fairly new to competition shooting, 3 months and very new to reloading.
  7. I've loaded a lot of .223 with BLC(2) and Varget and they run very clean. Sounds like we are missing something in this story. Are you using any lubricant? Are you cleaning the brass before loading? I think in the pistol rounds if you are not crimping at all you are going to see more soot in the gun. In the .223 I only use bullets with a cannalure and crimp them nicely in the cannalure. But you did not indicate that you had issues with the .223 running so you had to have crimped them.. All the brass was cleaned in a lyman vibrating tumbler using lyman green media that came with it and was VERY clean. I lubed the cases to size then=m and I wiped all the lube off of them before priming them. I did crimp the .223's using a Lee FCD. I used Winchester 748 powder The AR was pretty well lubricated with CLP it just seemed to be running a little dirtier with my hand loads than it did with any of the factory loads i have shot with it. I have some TAC the I loaded 20 rounds of HDY 75grn match bullets with and also some 8208 XBR that I am going to be using. The 9mm was not wet at all. I cleaned it up tonight and it cleans easily so it is not a big deal. I read that some of the issue with the 9mm could be the exposed lead? The .223 had exposed lead on the 55grns I loaded also. I need to get some dies for my .40SW and try that one next.
  8. Thanks for the help and information. I did not crimp most of the rounds at all. I think maybe 30 or 40 I ran through the Lee carbide factory crimp die. I am just getting started and only have a single stage press so this seemed like a time consuming and somewhat un-necessary step. I may try and shoot a hundred or so that I run through the crimp die and see if that makes a difference. If the powder is inherently dirty then it is what it is... It did not shoot poorly or anything so I will be using it for the next 900 or so rounds I load. The only comparison I have is the factory ammo that I have been shooting did not seem to make my gun nearly as dirty. I also loaded a few hundred rounds of .223 and thought the same thing. The gun was filthy after 150 rounds. I run my AR kind of wet and it was dripping black gunk gunk into the magazines. Maybe aftermarket powders are just dirtier than the factory stuff. Paul
  9. If you feel the crimp is excessive, back out the die partially. Go shoot some groups with full crimp, partial crimp and no crimp...let your results dictate what your barrel/load likes. Personally, running some sort of crimp with a self loader is a good choice. If your neck tension is not enough, the bullet slamming into the feed ramp could give you bullet setback. With some loads, bullet setback could result in excessive pressure. My 20" AR rifle seems to like the aggresive crimp. I shot multiple 10 rd groups and all of the best ones came from the rounds that I cripmed in the Lee FCD. I don't really like the looks of the necks on the brass though, the crimp marks are still very evident.
  10. Paul, I use 4.2g to 4.6 of Titegroup with WSP primers and Berry plated DS 115g RN, the dirty part usually just wipe off with rag, this is in two G34's one production set up the other for Open/minor. What amount of TG are you loading, and are you talking about the browning of muzzle end and feed ramp? I loaded 4.8 grns over Federal small pistol primers. The muzzle end back about 1 to 1.5 inches was BLACK! My gun is OD so it was very obvious. The feed ramp and even the mag well look to be very dirty as well. I have not cleaned the gun yet so I don't know how easy it comes off... I am going to try some 124grn CMJ MG's next. I am not sure about this re-loading thing. I am sure could have just bought factory Federal (Wal-Mart) Ammo cheaper... I don't think I could save enough money in my lifetime to cover the cost of a Dillon 650
  11. loaded my first 500 9mm using 115grn MG's and Tite Group powder. I shoot a couple hundred of them and my gun was so dirty I did not even want to touch it. Is this typical?? Is there a better powder choice?
  12. I used the Lee factory crimp die on 100 .223's that I loaded last night. I followed the instructions to the letter and the amount of crimp seems to be excessive. I am almost affraid to shoot them.
  13. My 18" JP absolutely LOVES this exact load under a Nosler 69 gr HPBT. The nice thing about W748 is that you can find it in nearly every gunshop. I have been using that same powder but 26.0 grains under 55grn hdy's I was not thrilled with how accurate it was. I am going to try backing it down a bit. I had zero signs of over pressure and I am still .3 under what it shows as a max load but I would not mind getting sub moa groups :-)
  14. push harder! and, remember in a match if you are doing a reload and the slide is down you need to really put the magazine in forcibly it is a little tougher than with 16or less or when at slide lock
  15. Good morning, I have some 75 grn Hornady BTHP match bullets and some Winchester 748 powder. I am looking for a recipe. I saw this combination in the Hornady book at bass pro shops last night but I did not copy it down, nor did I buy the book... :-( Can anyone help with the recomended powder charges for this bullet and powder... I know there are probably better powder choices but bass pro had a limited selection. Thanks from the new guy!
  16. Can you elaborate on fitting the barrel with some files a little....please.
  17. I am also a new guy close to south Florida...
