  1. I have an STI edge with a weird hammer follow issue. It will not follow on slide forward while holding the trigger or without. But falls to half cock from from full cock when the trigger is depressed. I think it's a sear spring issue. It is a buddy of mine's gun. I have 16 oz on the disconector leg 32 oz with sear and disconector installed any ideas?

  2. HA guess what my gun did today that has functioned flawlessly for over 6000 rounds... lets just say I spent an hour fitting the firing pin stop and rolling the edges to fit a new aftec extractor... why does my gun always puke during a match and never in practice lol

  3. LAtach. You are right. Gene Jackson tells me all the time, "you have the trigger finger of a Tasmanian Devil and the draw of a pregnant yak" he also said he could time my draw with with a sun dial lol, dont know if you know Gene he is one of the old Guys from the St. benard indoor range when max had the plate match. Really good dude he has helped push my time across the plates alot. I just need to get over this one hurdle to make the master class.

Kungfu that is a great idea. I noticed when I change my focus for example from my hands to my elbows at the gym while doing lat pull downs it complete changes the way I pull the bar.

I am going to try that.. you are also right about loosing my focus thanks for pointing that out.

The other thing I have never really thought about till now is that once your grip is correct in the chest face box area your draw is now complete. the next part is another skill all together and that presentation and dot/ sight acquisition.

the first video i posted back in march. I have been working on this since and have not gotten very far with it. I am going to post some videos break it down to each movement and see what you guys can tell me i am missing something.

  4. awlazs, I am trying that, but Its difficult to move my hands at two different speeds. Just so I am understanding should i be receiving my gun in my weak hand up in the "face box" area and pushing out? or more mid chest meeting and rising up? I watched you vids on youtube you have a really smooth draw I need to try and get 5 tenths off my draw. This is what it looks like since this video.

  5. I had this issue with an aftec extractor. try it with only one spring. When i ran it with both springs it would do exactly what your saying. what would happen was it would be ok when 100% clean. but once just a little crud built up on the breach face or things got hot it would start to puke. I called them they said run one spring. I tried it and never had a problem again.

  6. Out of curiosity, how did you come about that particular OAL?

When I was researching loading 9mm major, lots of people load to 1.170 and 1.180, so I split the difference.

Not all major 9 guns are created equal. I have 3, 2 will only go to 1.170 and the 3rd will go to 1.200. You might want to check the to see if you have the head space before you get too long. RN can be longer than JHP's. SVI mags will take a longer round than the STI with spacers, with spacer you run out of mag around 1.185.

I mostly shoot WST in minor however, I made up some good minor loads with AutoComp 5.2gr w/124 and 5.6gr with 115gr. I like them about 135pf runs the gun well.

Now I know this is an older post, but how was the recoil form the 5.2gr w/124gr load? Also was it on a comped gun?

Its ok... the dot tends to become a blurring line when moving across the rack really fast. The wst load is a little better. the biggest trick i think is to find a recoil spring that is just right for the load. I am pretty sure i am going to just pump my load up to around 155-160 for steel matches also. I get better times and hits with less dot movement.

  7. thats what we do every friday night man on man falling plates 5 8 inch plates @ 30 feet from the surrender position. We have a laser timer thats wicked accurate. I am running around 2.7-3.2 seconds pretty consistently but find my dot bounces around to much with the load i am running. I may try the wst and if not i am going to pump up the volume and go with 7.2 of autocomp. my major load the dot dont move but man its brutal to shoot inside.

  8. lol, pat I know the shooter you are talking about. Really good kid. Pat was traumatized that whole match. While he was ROing me he took a piece of hot 9 Major brass down his shirt on the game over stage. in fact it looked something like this.

This was the first time i ever shot an open gun so its an ugly stage for me. But funny to watch pat jump around with hot brass down his shirt. jump and dance RO

  9. been there. I had an AD on mag change with my finger out of the guard. Ran a mag to slide lock... which i planned cause i had a long run and lots of time to change on the move. turned did a beautiful mag change dropped the slide and bang sent one over the berm. finger on the frame. Moral of the story... check your internal parts often as well. broken sear and hammer follow took care of it for me.

  10. Is it roy ? If so man i will give you some free range time @ my place in Pass christian if you will let me run a few mags through it.

Yep, Roy Schmidt. He only lives a few blocks away from me.

cool man i would really like to see it when he is done. If i am going to do my barrel I am sure its going to be roy doing it.

  11. hammer who are you thinking about building the gun for you? you going local or what? If your using a local guy i would really like to see how the holes turn out if you that way. I am thinking of putting a couple on my stock trubor with the t1 comp.

  12. Ron I agree. I have shot a TON of open guns before I bought/built mine. I have a bone stock trubore 9mm with a t-1 comp its very flat and pleasent shoot.. but a tick slow and to heavy. but very very shootable. My other is again stock trubore with a lot of meat taken off the slide 9mm with a t-2 comp. I LOVE THIS GUN. now it may just be that this is the gun that just fits me and my shooting style the best, but this gun is the best gun i have ever shot.

This leads me to believe that you just need to find what works best for you and what works for your load. Now i will say this I did alot of work finding a load/spring combo that gave me the least amount of dot movement. I like my dot to twitch in the lens. a 13lb spring and 7.0 grains of auto comp behind a 124 mg JHP @ 1.165 does exactly that.

edit: for having fat fingers and typing 8.0 grains of autocomp insted of 7.0

  13. I've shot a V6 and a V12 Tanfo. The V12 in particular was to me a loud, brutal, painful in enclosed shooting positions gun to shoot. Yeah, it was kinda fun to watch the ROs run for cover, but frankly whatever gain there was in dot movement was more than washed out by the blast and sound of the thing even doubleplugged. I now shoot a non-ported Trubore with a very efficient job done on the comp. I'm not going back.

As a slight detour in the discussion I am not convinced of the absolute benefit of a dot that just twitches. I like some movement. Perhaps just a personal preference.

edited to add Feel free to call me a girly-man.

I have a good friend that shoots our indoor plate match with a .40 v12 its the most obnoxious thing i have ever shot but man its flat and the flames shooting out the holes makes it really look like a dragster lol! but man its horrid to shoot inside.

  14. I just loaded 5.2 grains of autocomp @ 1.165 behind a 124 gr mg JHP not sure of the power factor but it run in my trubor no issues with a 13lb spring. It can't be much, shoots reallllly soft. 7.9 grains in the same gun same bullet and oal makes 169 pf. my trubor will also run on 4.0 grains of tight group at 129 pf with a 11lb spring with no issues

  15. I honestly don't know what is wrong with your first load - the AutoComp one is very close to what I am getting in my guns WITH holes.

But for the nearly identical HS-6 load (I use 8.2 gr) I get 169. Two possibilities I see: one - your powder drop is not working - did you check the charge? And two - bad batch of powder.

Checked it on a lyman digital and an RCBS beam scale. I would think if i was getting drop issues my es would be more i got a differance of 23 feet on string 1 I just dont know maybe its a bad batch of powder. I guess it will be relagated to steel and practice powder. I really liked the autocomp better anyway.
