  1. Looking for someone to custom make a kydex holster.
  2. Lock time is a term normally used to describe how much time passes from the moment the striker/firing pin is released from the sear or whatever until it strikes the primer. In rifles there is the concern that the rifle might move slightly from when the firing pin is released until the primer is struck causing the groups to open up. In a pistol, especially one used in USPSA type events this is a non factor. Using a heavier recoil spring in a semi auto pistol has the 'potential' to increase mechnical accuracy but not necessarially for the reasons suggested above. The extra spring pressure pushing the slide/barrel forward into battery tends to reduce the possibilty of dimensional variations in the lock up position of the barrel relative to the slide which can be caused by anything from a poor fit to debris in the lock up areas. In a striker fired pistol you have the additional consideration of the recoil spring relative to the striker spring, which work in opposition to each other. The key word here is 'potential' and the most important consideration would be; is the 'potential' accuracy gain enough to improve your stage factor over the 'potential' loss of stage factor due to more percieved recoil and/or muzzle flip? Of course this is just my opinion ...
  3. Throwing live rounds into a fire normally results in either the bullet popping out of the case a very short distance (usually measured in inches) or the case will rupture. Heating a loaded weapon to the point the powder in the cartridge ignites will result in the weapon discharging in a near normal manner, although I suspect with a reduced bullet velocity. I have to admit I have never tried it over a Chronogrphy so no hard data about the velocity loss. Accuracy is marginal unless the weapon is properly secured. Time from heat application to discharge is unpredictable at best. Don't ask ...
  4. Faster lock time in a benchrest rifle has advantages usually measured in 1/100's to maybe 1/10th of an inch at 100 yards. I doubt that any realist reduction in locktime in a USPSA pistol is going to produce an identifiable improvement in static group shooting let alone during an actual stage. Go with what produces the most reliabile primer ignition.
  5. The problem with the current program of not allowing physical fault lines is the lack of consistent calls from competitor to competitor. In theory at least the use of 2x4's or even 2x2's to create fault lines a competitor is either legal or not, they are either within the shooting area or out of it.As far as using 1,2,3 fault lines for your given examples, I think that is a secondary issue that will quickly work it's self out as soon as we approve fault lines, and the main consideration is that it be the same for everyone. As to where they should be used, that should be anywhere there is the potential for a cover call. As far as a lifting a foot or shuffling to get to the next target, or even standing on one leg to lean out, it is perfectly legal so I don't see the need to even mention that. Any rule rewrites should focus on making it easier for the competitor to understand and comply with the rules and to make it easier for the SO's to correctly enforce the rules.
  6. I shouldn't get involved but ..... 1) Get rid of the rule against round dumping, it can be hard to call correctly and half the time is self correcting. 2) Require fault lines to clearly define cover. It's to subjective to call fairly 100% of the time as it is now. 3) Move ALL striker fired pistols into ESP, leaving SSP for true double action pistols only. 4) Make ESP and CDP rules identical except for the following: a) ESP 10 rd mag's, CDP 8rd mags ESP 125 power factor, CDP 165 power factor c) Approve all calibers for ESP and CDP with a .355" bore or larger 5) Raise the standards for becoming a SOI, and formalize the training to become a SO. 6) Create a clear route to become a DM other then HQ randoming selecting people (make it earnable), and properly monitor it with monthly updating. 7) Formalize the classification system, require the scores be submitted to HQ, and properly monitor and update the classification system monthly. 8) Only allow the difference in classification in different divsions to vary by one step except for DM's. If DM in one division, should be DM in all divisions. 9) Allow knee pads and cleats, these are safety items just like ear and eye protection. 10) Get rid of the point's system for the World Shoot.
  7. I run Speer Low Recoil Slugs, Winchester Low Recoil Buckshot, and WalMart 3 dram 7.5's or 8's. All of my shotguns use screw in chokes so that the gun can be matched to the stages.
  8. << purpose built for 9 major doesn't even come close >> You don't think people are building special pistols specifically for IDPA competition?
  9. I try to always use the RemChoke mostly because I have a bunch of the choke tubes and they have always worked well.
  10. IIRC, it's been a while since I carried a VIP, I used an Ackers leather holster for a Glock 19.
  11. I like that idea, ESP and CDP the same set of rules with the following exceptions, ESP minor power factor (10rds), CDP major power factor(8 rds), no caliber restrictions (9mm or larger for both).
  12. << Where do we stop >> Not sure I understand the question. CDP is based on the idea of shooting a major factor load (165 or above). We already have weight limits, magazine capacity limitations, approved and prohibited modifications. The various factories sell 9mm, 357 Sig, 40 cal, and 10mm ammo that makes major. It would allow or at least promote the use of different platforms which should be a good thing. A lot of people are reloading these cartridges to major power factors safely and costs would be lower. So I ask, "where is the bad"?
  13. >> Well Bob, if this is all true? >> If I was going to lie, it wouldn't be to you. The orginal question was if SO's should be scored separately, not if they were cheating. There are some who believe that scoring the match staff separately adds to the professionalism (or at least the perceived professionalism) of the sport. As far as the logistics involved in accomplishing the separation, yes it does causes some additional issues which in some geographical areas might be insurmountable. But there are some who believe we should work to solve these problems, not ignore them. HankFan79, since you readily admit to knowing others who cheat, I assume you have contacted the match MD where it ocurred and HQ's to revoke their membership? Right? Or is it OK if they are the "BEST" at cheating, or at least not SO's, or if they are your friends? Hmmmm?
  14. And where did I or anyone else say "all SO's are cheaters"? Again broad generalizations not based in fact.
  15. Actually if you go back to Post#58 you will see I changed my mind about SO's shooting separate matches. My most recent post(s) are in regards to the statement that people who complain or suggest changes in the way IDPA matches are run haven't paid their dues by working matches, sanctioned or otherwise. It is amusing that people who take such exception to preceived generalization about SO's are more then willing to make blanket generalizations about people who disagree with them. Kind of a double standard don't you think?
  16. They should seriously look at allowing anything in CDP that makes power factor including 357 Sig, 9mm, 38 Super, etc.
  17. So let me see if I get this right ... I am a SO, SOI, former AC, multi time sanctioned match director, multi time sanctioned match range master, multi time volunter at sanctioned matches, I have started or helped start several IDPA clubs, have assisted in every possible capacity at multiple sanctioned matches at the staffs request, designed/built prop's, assisted/worked on/supervised the construction of props and the set up of stages at sanctioned and local matches, been a match sponsor at dozens of sanctioned matches, and probably SO'ed at at least 200 local matches over the years, if not more, but since I 'complain' about things I believe IDPA should do better, none of that counts ... ? Did I get that right? And by the way, before you ask, everytime I had an offical position in an IDPA match, I didn't shoot for score. I have assisted in staffing a match, after being asked by the range staff during the match, and continued to shoot for score but only if that assistance was limited in nature.
  18. Why are you assuming the "complainers" never or rarely SO sanctioned matches?
  19. Assuming we are talking about 45acp brass, the small primer brass works just fine, and is a lot cheaper (or free). It's all I use anymore in the 45.
  20. Will O'Hara out of Corona is an excellent gunsmith, as is Dave Lawver (Daves Metal Works) in Covina. Both are very well known in the local area.
