+1000. Some of the things went out of style for a REASON. They looked ridiculous!!!

You shot well, and don't forget that you won the SS division, if I recall. Keep up the good work......it's paying off for you.

You can change out the sights, guide rod/spring, and have a trigger job done by Dan Burwell. I'm actually still shooting mine pretty much stock, except a light trigger polish job. Check out the MP-forum for specifics.........

Awesome. MUCH better.

4.6g of Vit n 320, 180g JHP , OAL 1.135.......... makes 171 for me.

Chris Patty has them avail. in his store, too. cpwsa..................

I hate it for you man..........
;) All that hanging around Benny is what's causing it! Blame him! LOL

Heinie Straight Eights are a good compromise to do both....... and I think CGR can do a race cut on the rear of those too.

Well, it seems as though the Winchester brass is not quite as thick at the rim as Starline, and the combo of small rifle and this brass don't like each other. It works great w Starline brass and these primers, and it works fine with small PISTOL primers and the new Winchester brass, just not small rifle w/ the Winchester. I don't seem to have any real solutions, so most likely just work around it w/ small pistol primers for now, unless someone offers up a brilliant solution.

650. Winchester small rifle primers. You'd THINK w/ Winchester brass they'd be a dream, but not so much. It's pretty aggravating........hopefully it's something simple.

I just ordered 1K of Winchester brass to compliment my Starline supply...... and after loading a little bit of it, it seems as though my primers are not seating 'flat' like they do on the Starline brass. I checked all the obvious things, and can't seem to find a reason. I can also put Starline on, and it will seat beautifully.......Winchester, hit or miss. What am I missing here?

My shoulder is still on the mend, so a day of ice and anti-inflammatories for me. Orthopedic surgeon warned me to not over do it, and obviously I must have, since I'm hurting again. Maybe we'll get to come play next weekend.
Looking good with the SS gun. Spartan or Tigger?

Nice job!!

BOTH of them build quality guns, and you won't be sorry either way. You'll have to walk a fine line here because forum rules state no vendor bashing---even though that's not the intent, it could be misconstrued that way. I'm fortunate enough to have handled both, and they are indeed nice. For me, Bob & Brazos is local, so if I have a problem--drop in the car and drive is better than mail, but that said, I may have Dan build me a "spare" when I get extra cash. Wifey is currently shooting a Brazos, and loves it. Also, I've talked to both Bob and Chuck/Dan and they are both awesome to deal with.
Shoot both, and buy which YOU like better........ as Xre said, price isn't a good indicator. Good luck.

If you'd go to the same matches I do, there is always someone shooting SS!!!

What seems to be the general consensus on recoil spring weight? I'm loving mine so far, and can't wait to get a 5"!!

Welcome back........... enough of the shooting stuff, where are the Yellowstone pics?

Talk to BJ Norris on here..........I know he's done a bunch of experimenting.

Shred is THE best lefty I know.......... I'm a southpaw, too, but not in the 'good' category...YET.

I went back and grabbed the camera and took some new pics, just for comparison. It does look like the original ones were kinda at a weird angle or else my grip has gotten better since those were taken.

Nice Open gun too, huh?
 Wifey won't let me keep it though.

Wow, I had forgotten about this--- had the ejector cut at a different angle, and the problem was all fixed. I also have gotten a little more used to 1911/2011 frames from the Glock transition now, too. (Even though I've now gone back to plastic, in the form of my M&P!)

Just an addition to my earlier post--- I tried several loads to get away from smoke, absolutely HATED Titegroup/Precision combo--felt like a mosquito fogger. Tired the Clays load I listed, some WST, some 231, etc.....For my money, VV n320 and a 180 JHP bullet are the LEAST smokey combination I have found, after a bunch of experimenting.

I have some load data at home, but most people are going to chime in and tell you Clays is not a good choice for .40..........
Edit: had spreadsheet here at work, too.
Here is the data using a 180, so you could back it down slightly.
4.4G Clays 180 MG JHP
936.1
937.9
931.7
935.2333333 168.342
STI Edge, loaded to 1.200................
Just FYI, I don't use this load.......... but I have shot it and it was ok. I chose to go with VV n320, a much safer load.

Brazos. Bob's stuff always runs GREAT.

Jane,
Not XRe, but here is my .40 load data-- STI Edge, loaded long to 1.200. Vihta N320, 4.9g, 180g JHP Zero bullet.
I made 171 with it at the Arkansas sectional and 169.5 with it at Area 4. I'm sure a couple other Vihta users will chime in shortly with more details as well. Hope that helps.
