  1. I've also had the pleasure of shooting on the same squad with CHA-LEE and have NO doubts about his abilities. Why don't you squad with him at a match and see for yourself?
  2. When shooting a scoped rifle for the first time get to close to scope. Kept scar, threw away skin that scope decided to remove but not eat. After having one too many and forget to put your feet down when coming to a stop on ones motorcycle.
  3. I for one hope it happens soon. This is one match I look forward to every year. It was the first major match I ever shot, the folks involved coupled with the people in the town made it a unique experience. Of course the heat was brutal but this is Texas so it just has to be dealt with. (practicing meditation to stay patient)
  4. Everything is set. Hotel had no problems after we mentioned it was for the SCSA, and app is on it's way.
  5. rklillyskygod, Thanks for sending the rule book. Working on the hotel reservation, is there a code for the discount at the match hotels?
  6. Never shot a steel match but have heard there are restrictions on the PF that can be used. Does this match allow Major PF or must it be Minor PF or a .22 ?
  7. The stage in question was corrected by Bunchies with properly positioned rope. That stage as well as the rest of the match was a blast.
  8. skip62 I've heard that both ways, one way was you can clean alot of it out by shooting jacketed bullets the other is if you shoot jacketed bullets after shooting lead you really pack the lead into the rifling. I don't have a clue which is correct so am hesitant to shoot jacketed rounds afterwards.
  9. I'm positive this has been covered but searched and couldn't find it. My question: Is there a good cleaning solvent for use in removing lead from the barrel? I used Hoppe's Elite and spent quite a while getting the barrel clean. Does anyone anyone have any experience with this matter. I'd prefer not to use a bore brush to clean said barrel since I've heard it can damage it. Yes I did break down and use the brush so that I could get it cleaned today. Any ideas are welcome and solutions to this problem is good for at least a six pack of Bud or Heineken. Thanks
  10. Squadded and waiting to shoot this match, just need for the match hotel to be decided so I can have all my ducks in a row.
  11. This maybe why I have so many ups and downs at various matches. Some matches I shoot really well others not so much, since to me the sights are what drives the gun. I understand that grip, trigger control ect are very important but if you don't have the pistol "steered" in the proper direction the rest won't matter since the round isn't going where it needs to go. I've been shooting for almost 2 yrs now and still trying to claw my way to B class in Limited, I'm 2.5ish points away. It looks like I need to rethink how I'm using the sights, when I'm smart enough to use them that is.
  12. 1. 6.80 - 1 = 7.3 2. 7.o4 -2 = 8.04 3. 6.51 -2 = 7.51 4. 6.86 -1 = 7.36 5. 6.60 -0 = 6.60 6. 6.83 -3 = 8.33 7. 7.62 -1 = 8.12 8. 7.16 -4 = 9.16 9. 7.88 -3 = 9.38 7.9ish avg On the last 3-4 strings I caught myself thinking about what to do, and man did things go down hill fast. Gotta get this figured out or I'm just wasting ammo, but I do know if I can get this down it will help alot.
  13. Going back to the range today to try and get Part 2 down correctly. For some reason I'm thinking about what I'm wanting to do instead of just letting it happen like it did on the first part.
  14. To me the sights are like the steering wheel of a car. It is going to direct the car/bullet to where the driver/shooter intends for the car/bullet to end up. I hope this makes sense
  15. Not sure if this helps but here goes, when I replaced the spring and follower in my Limited STI mags with Gram springs, followers, had to sand down the left front and about half the side part of the follower to keep it from locking back with one round left in the mag. Now it will run dry and not lock back, tho I do try to avoid running dry by counting my shots. Btw I posted a similiar question about this same product a few weeks back and folks were quick to point out how to correct it. Hope this helps.
  16. This was a good match, fun and challenging stages make for a great day at the range no matter where you place.
  17. As I've stated I have no idea about lead. But one thing I've heard is that the lead is coated mainly to help reduce the amount of smoke, is this correct? I have no idea for other reason to coat lead but am definitely interested in finding out from those who actually shoot these.
  18. Thankfully my budget allows for either FMJ's or cast. But I'm a tightwad and if I get the same results with cast bullets as FMJ's, I'll lean towards saving the few dollars. The main things I don't want to do is either damage my gun or incur accuracy problems due to being a tightwad. I do appreciate all the input on this topic.
  19. Thanks for the responses, Hi-Power Jack, why are you having feeding issues thru your gun? Is is because of the lead getting deformed when cycled? I gauge every round so hope to catch any bulged cases ect. I have no knowledge in this matter and want to ensure I'm not shooting myself in the foot with feeding issues. As to health concerns since I'll be doing all my shooting outdoors that's not a worry.
  20. I'm debating changing to lead bullets instead of jacketed MG I've been using. My question on this topic is, if lead is as accurate as jacketed why doesn't more shooters use them? I've only been to 3 major matches and can count on one hand folks I've seen using them. I'm shooting .40 STI Edge
  21. Thanks for both answers, I was definitely wondering how much to take off. Was thinking taking off just the "bump" on the front left side of the Gram follower down even with the lip of mag. PS It worked great thanks for the link and info.
  22. I know this has to be covered somewhere on here but couldn't find it. I bought new Gram followers and springs for my .40 STI. The last round will not chamber w/o me cycling the slide, I've talked with a few folks in the know and got different answers, one is just file down the left front corner of follower, the other says file the left front and a part towards the middle of the follower, anyone know which one is correct?
  23. Thanks for the 2nd part of the drill,it'll get done Tues. Think it's something that can be added to a practice schedule.
