  2. Heading to the range tomorrow evening to give this drill a go. Question, before sending the PM would it be a better idea to practice this drill at a couple different practice sessions or is the 6-10 strings enough?
  3. This match last year was my first major match. I was impressed with how well the stages were run, and how much fun I had. This year's was rough, not enough help will do that, but I bet next years will be a good one. Hope those who don't want to go back change their mind.
  4. Thanks to all the RO's and staff at this match. Yes it was hot and yes there were some bugs, but it was a safe and fun match, I definitely hope to be back next year, some really good folks there.
  5. My back up is an M&P .40, it shoots the same ammo as my main weapon. I do have to carry an extra holster and mags and pouches, but after my main weapon broke at Texas Limited last year I learned my lesson. Once I added up the cost of time off work, gas, match fees and hotel room, ect it just made sense to have a back up. If it weren't for the kindness of a fellow shooter I'd have had to go home with 4 stages left. (Thanks again Pat H.)
  6. Shot this match last year, was the first major match I'd ever shot and found it to be a blast. Going back this year and hope to shoot it every year it's held.
  7. Hello, I started this sport about 2yrs ago and I love it. Reading BE's book Practical Shooting Beyond Fundamentals, got it at SCC this year. Hope to finish the first read of it before DTC.

  8. Yes Poppa Bear they are both 165's, and I will weigh the rounds after they are reloaded. I plan on starting with TiteGroup powder at 4.0 grains OAL of 1.124 and crimp of .418. These numbers I'm starting with are from the factory Winchester rounds that the M&P eats up, just found out my STI won't be in until Sept.
  9. Thanks for responding, I've been hearing horror stories about reloading .40's so I'm proceeding with caution. Been reloading 9mm w/o any problems, but want to be sure with .40
  10. I'm going to start reloading .40 for the first time. I have an M&P 5" barrel and want to shoot major PF. I'll also be reloading for an STI in .40 but am strating with the M&P. My questions are I have WST and Tite Group powder, which would be best to use for the caliber? Also I have an idea of where to start with the powder but none for the crimp or OAL. Thinking of using the same OAL and crimp from Winchester factory loads that have been running well in the M&P. Any suggestions are very welcome.
  11. First time for me to shoot this match. After reading all the posts, made my reservation at the Ridge. Still trying to figure out which squad I'm on, been to the USPSA site and pulled a blank, has anyone seen the squad posting there?
  12. Airborne / Noyl - I've been loading WST in 9 mm for 3 years, they must have reformulated that stuff, 4.7 gr is plenty too much for anything short of a moose, and will produce about 1100fps with 124gr MTG RN at 1.140. I'd call a quick start as 4.4 - 4.5 gr with .1gr more in each crono set till you hit your desired pf or pressure signs. With 115gr 5.0 gr is right at minor but those loads don't knock down steel well sick with the 124/125gr.
  13. [quote name='SynnerG' timestamp='1281963901' post='1270269' I have the 550 as well got mine with .45 and the 9mm conversion kits. I have to hand it to Dillon when they say it's ALL guaranteed for life they aren't kidding. I had an E ring break on mine the other day and as luck would have it Home Depot, Wall Mart ect didn't have any, called Dillon today and they got some in the mail to me at no charge. Also I didn't get a small primer tube that fits into the primer holder even tho it had been a month or two since I got the press, (changed from .45 to 9) when I called them about why the primers kept falling out they walked me thru taking it apart over the phone, figured out the problem and sent me the correct part right away again at no charge. If you have any problems don't hesitate to call them and if something breaks even something small like the E ring (which I understand is rare)they take care of you right away. Welp, I got my 550B on Friday, set it up and mounted to my work table on Saturday and churned out my first completed round on Sunday! Setup was pretty much a breeze, tho I had two mess-ups. First, I mounted it a bit too far back on the table so that the level couldn't reach full extension. No biggie, just moved and re-drilled the mounting holes and it was fine. The next was that the direction for the primer magazine weren't specific enough I think. It comes with the Large rod installed so I needed to put in the small pistol one. I dropped it in and screwed down the nut, but it wasn't seated all the way down. When I put my primers in, they spilled out of the bottom of the primer tube. After cleaning up that mess I took the whole magazine assembly and checked what was happening. The tube has a notch that needs to be lined up so it will drop just a bit further, but even then there's a gap between the tube and the primer catcher. It took even more wiggling for it to touch the retaining pin that keeps the primers from falling out. After putting that back together it ran fine. I did the usual first timer stuff like basically checking each round at each stage to ensure I was doing it right and each had a primer and the correct charge. I even loaded up a magazine and cycled thru each one to make sure it would chamber and eject properly. The toughest part to remember seems to be the push forward to seat a new primer. Once the lever is raised to a resting position, normally you are done, but not in this case, so I usually have to say out loud like "Forward" or "seat primer" until I can develop some sort of muscle memory for that. Anyways, just thought I'd share my first time on the press. I'll take em to the range and report on how they shot.

  15. Couldn't find Ted's email but hope to see him at tomorrow's AASA shoot at the BulletHole. Hopefully I can get further info on this, after checking out alot of different sites I do believe that this powder can be a good one for a 9mm if done properly.
  16. I currently use N320 and I'm happy with everything about it but the price. I use Zero 124 FMJ (product #147)the catch with it (N320) besides the price is that since it's an extruded powder I don't get exact dumps everytime. But on avg. of ten dumps it is 4.4 but have gotten 4.6 often enough to notice in the case. With my M9 it needs a heavier load to cycle it properly so it isn't a problem. Was hoping to see if the using ball powder gives a more exact dump. I've only been reloading a couple months and have around 4500 rds reloaded and fired w/o a hitch using the N320, and felt comfortable enough to start experimenting a little with different powders and had heard negative comments about WW231, so when the WST was mentioned...
  17. Has anybody out there ever used WST powder to reload in a 9mm besides CocoBolo? Have a couple lbs of this powder and wanted to use it for that caliber. If you haven't used it for this caliber was there a particular reason for it? I spoke to the folks who took over Winchester's powders and they haven't nor do they have any plans to test this powder for 9mm's since they are happy with the results of the 231 (I believe is the correct one) powder for 9mm's. I have heard that the 231 is a very dirty powder and tho I do clean my weapons after each range session I was interested in trying something different and the shop I buy all my reloading supplies from stated that the WST was a good powder for 9mm's as well as .40 & .45. Anyone have any thoughts on this subject? Thanks
  18. CocoBolo, Your reply is pretty detailed and it also helps that your family member is using the same pistol. I'm leaning towards your recipe or at least start my first 5 rds at 4.2 and 5 more at 4.4 ect. You look familiar think I've either shot a range course you were at or you go to the same range I do. If I may ask how long have you been reloading? Would like to pick your brain somemore if possible. Either way thank you for taking the time to reply to my question.
  19. Going to reload for my 9mm Beretta M9 using WST ball powder NOT WSF. Have the recipe for the grains it is 3.8, trying to figure out what the OAL will be for this type powder. Anyone out there have any solid info on this topic, be it the grains as well as the OAL. Thanks for any help that can be given.
  20. My handle is AirBorne and shooting is something that is getting into my blood again. Want to become a better shooter then I am now and this is the best site for info. So hello to all and I'm glad to be here, and hope to pick the brains of all the dedicated shooters I can.
