  1. Yeah, I started with just the parts of the grip that were factory textured. I did some dry fire exercises and expanded the areas I stippled until I had it where I wanted it. I've thought about doing the areas on the frame where my thumbs lay, but since I don't really need grip there, I'm holding off.
  2. The stippling is pretty rough, but that's what I was going for - it's a little more aggressive than tread tape/skateboard tape. I ended up doing the trigger because I occasionally notice a little slippage between shots (when shooting doubles, for example) and thought a textured trigger might reduce that. So far I like it.
  3. There seem to be a few of these lately - M&P limited guns. Mine is a work in progress, but I'm happy with it so far. Grip stippled (plus mag release, trigger) Williams Gun Sight FO Sights SSS Brass Magwell SSS Brass Mag Extensions I haven't done any internal work yet. I carry an M&P at work, and I'm comfortable enough with the workings of the stock gun that I don't want to start working on the guts until I identify very specific internal improvements I want to make. It's also a DIY gun and I want to take it slowly so I don't make a gun-shaped paper weight.
  4. Very nice! I've been working on my own M&P limited project. Need to get some pics up. Seem to be quite a few sexy M&Ps on the forum lately. Look out, Glock people! (And the rest of you!)
  5. Okay, that shouldn't be as funny as it is. Awesome!
  6. After shooting 9mm - 120mm (tank and mortar) and many things in between in the service, getting out and becoming a PO and actually learning how to shoot a handgun, I didn't buy my first firearm until I was 29. Ruger Mk III. Funny thing is, even after all the big hardware, I was so excited to have a gun to call my very own.
  7. Would you take someone with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry seriously? I’m looking to make a career change and am thinking about going back to school. For engineering schools the most feasible option, in light of geography, family, work, and financial situation, would be DeVry. I come from a family of graduates of 4 year liberal arts schools and I’m not sure if I’m being snobby or if this is a real concern. But I don’t want to spend $50k+ for another degree in order to get a job repairing vacuum cleaners (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I’d love to hear what isn’t in DeVry’s admissions literature. I know that they’re accredited, but they’re also a for-profit school. What do those of you in technical fields think of them? Positive/negative experiences with the school or its graduates? Are you a DeVry grad who can provide some insight about your own experiences? This isn’t a decision I’ll be making tomorrow and it would help to get some feedback from people who don’t have an interest in the situation.
  8. First of all, does anyone have any strong opinions on the "300 blackout" setup? I had never heard of such a thing until the other day. Interesting concept... But as far as zombie scenarios, my choices (none of them actaully "battle rifles," but we are talking about zombie apocalypse): Saiga 12 (with bayonet) Flamethrower (with bayonet) Baseball bat "The Defender" (Simpsons fans, you know what I'm talking about)
  9. +1 Almost everyone could benefit from .22 practice - cheapest live-fire you can get, and not nearly the "event" that larger calibers can be. For me personally, dummy rounds did help a lot.
  10. This one was tricky for me, too. There is no 180 in real life - in fact, the bad guys can come from 360 degrees, high or low. I've made a conscious effort to slow down and consider 180 during my walk-through. I usually do at least one walk-through where all I do is look for possible issues with that. If you think there's a spot where you may break 180, plan on dialing back your speed a bit. I'm a strong believer in "slow is smooth, smooth is fast."
  11. We just got Five Guys in my neck of the woods - great! But speaking of bad fries, am I the only one who thinks that Wendy's new fries suck?
  12. +1 - When I got out of the service I lost touch with a lot of great folks. When the wife wanted me to get on facebook I made fun of her... Until I started getting in touch with guys I served with. It's turned out to be a boon. But I make sure that I keep up with my privacy settings and never post anything about work.
  13. Welcome! The folks on here a great help to the new reloader.
  14. I've been carrying a stock M&P 40 for a few years. It has about 4000 rds through it and I've never had a single problem with it. It's fed every round I've put into it - bulk, PD ammo, lead, handloads. You can't have mine, but I think you can do a whole lot worse than an M&P.
  15. Very nice. Waiting on parts for my own limited m&p setup.
  16. I'd love to but we have a new junior shooter in the house - 1 week old the day of the match. I'll be darned if I can find ear muffs small enough or I'd bring her.
