  1. Guys, I did not think of this option. Glad to have the help.
  2. HI Ya, A while ago I bent the rear sight on my Colt Gold Cup National Match. [it hit the deck]. I can use it. It sights fine but looks crummy. What would you do?
  3. Hey Digi, Glad to see you here. Come on by at Raahague's Clays Range in Corona. We have several diff pistol matches. I do the Steel Madness on 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday AM's around 9AM. Club has lots of eq to lend you; mag holders, belts, etc and will sell ammo if needed. See us on youtube or look up raahagues on web. C U Max
  4. HI D Carter and other friends, the basic problem which hasnt been resolved is IT HAS TO BE INVENTORIED EVERY SO OFTEN. That means take it out of the safe, check the numbers in the book, and put it back in the safe. now that may not seem a lot to you young 'wipper snappers' but it is a pain in the a... to those whose backs act up. so my question remains- how long to keep it before selling or otherwise disposing of it? ATF, State, County, City, lawnmower or pawn police?? much obliged, Max It
  5. Hamma, if common sense ruled, you would be its judge. Since the shop in question did not put a disclaimer on their tickets (preprinted by Brownell's). They are going to have to go it alone. And yes most people do pick it up quickly. However the shop has some there over two years, and a couple left for a year or more after completion of repair, etc and notification to come. I am not quite sure the ATF has a opinion on this but would be glad if someone knew where to look. My preliminary reviews online produced nothing. Much obliged, Judge, Max
  6. Jim/Pa, what a teaser! Where is it?
  7. HI Packer and guys, lots of good answers. I like this approach myself. It's the inventory hassle, constantly pulling all them out and verifying...
  8. Hi, this one is for the professional gunsmith, and others in the know:- what does the gunsmith do with firearms left a very long time and not retrieved? Laundry says 30 days? What rules apply? one shop sends a registered letter, and then is prepared to pay what they sold it for if the person comes back. What say you?
  9. J Man, you are the Man, right on, much obliged, p.s. Thanks to you and the other poster, Ben Avery next time. The computer is again my friend ( and Brian Enos too). max
  10. Hi There, Wifey and I driving east to Phoenix AZ for a few days, bringing along a 'Chief's Special .38' and maybe a cowboy gun just for plinking (and her eduction). We will be 15-20 miles west of the city. What ranges nearby? Do I need a range or any old berm do it? Much obliged, Max It
  11. HI Striker, All good advise in the string; I want to add that the Norco Range is called Rahaage's look it up on the web.And there are pistol matches most Sat and Sundays. We shoot Steel Madness on 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sun 9AM or so. Come on out. Max
  12. Hi Striker, and Guys, Thanks for the reminder of PistolGear; they have the Carver Mount and the CR holster I would need, at reduced prices. My RM says he can find a red dot for $60 that is good. And he can Dremel the CR holster to fit it. So I would be out around 3 bills. Better than my previous off the cuff calculation of 600. This makes the upgrade tantilizing. I am still left with the fact that I have buggered up my nice looking XD as well as starting my own collection of not used sights; one set of trijicon, one set of Dawson Competition. Not to mention that with a open gun I am now in competition with a whole lot of younger and faster shooters. Decisions, decisions. Much obliged, Max
  13. Guys, My xd9-tactical is doing as well as it can at steel reactive targets. Maybe I can do better with a red dot sight. But where do I find one? I hear 'Ace' has one but it rides too high. Any intel out there? Much obliged, Max
  14. HI Tex, I am a few years older and I shoot Steel Plates also with my XD9-Tactical. I took off the tritium sights (they were on the gun when I bought it) for Dawsons. Which are great outdoors. But before I changed them I sprayed them with sight black from Brownell's. Now that I have taken off the trit's I sometimes use white out on the front one indoors. All fine. Happy Shooting
  15. Hi Gomer, The culprit was oversize boolits; i resized down to .358 in my Ideal #45 and they work fine. I had been cheating by using the unsized boolit with liquid Alox. No more. No prob. Thanks for asking, Max It
  16. HI, Flare is minimal. HOwever I have run out of bullets to load. Back later.
  17. Good points; I will check flare at the #2 station and seating and crimping.
  18. I just checked my book; on round count 7,200 so far XD9 Tactical aftermarket trigger modified mags no prob's. max
  19. Gomer, I have a 4 station set up with Redding Dies But you gave me an idea; namely that I have only lightly crimped the top of the bullet because if i went lower it made a groove. Maybe I will try all the way down and see if that smooths it out.
  20. Hi Randy, bullets are .358 and cases after first station of the press (sizer/decap) is .378 however bulge after loading makes them .380?? Pics? I am not that good at uploading, maybe later but thanks,
  21. Pro, I recommend a 147gr lead truncated nose with 3.5gn of Red Dot or some other fast powder. Right now I am going to try a slower one someone else recommended also. However the 147gr bullet makes for a soft recoil and is plenty heavy, hard and fast enough. At least for my Steel Madness which is falling plates as well as the stuff similar to Steel Challlenge. Caveat: I am only doing this a year or so. Good luck, Max
  22. HI Guys, One of my favorite reloading jobs is .38/.357's HOwever I am having some grief of late The ammo comes out with a bulg around the bullet end The press dies dont seem to take it out I have checked the depth of the sizing / decapping die and it is touching the shell plate. What am I missing? Much obliged, Max
