  1. I loaned my copy to my dad a couple years ago...I really should get it back, he'll never read it, and I am getting the itch to re-read it.

I don't have any experience with the SDB, but my 650 used to snap to the next station quite forcibly. I adjusted the shell plate bolt and then trimmed a coil off the spring that pushes up on the ball detent. It doesn't snap as rough anymore, and a lot less powder getting spilled now.

I'm liking it real well. I do get a puff of smoke, but not anything like the loads with TG under the Precisions.
  4. Thanks for spoiling the match i&$%t, I havent seen it yet. then dont read a thread about it. It thought there were a few good fights last night. I still cant believe the Lesnar/Carwin fight didnt get stopped in the 1st round. Had it been any other fight, I think it would have been stopped. I remember back the last time Tito Ortiz fought Ken Shamrock...it got stopped really quick and caused some stink. Had the ref stopped the match last night, too early, it would have been a nightmare. I think it should have been stopped, but with such a high profile fight, I can imagine they decided to let it go on a bit longer than normal.
  5. I wanted Carwin to win, real bad because of Lesnar's attitude. The after-fight talk with Rogan totally redeemed Lesnar in my eyes. He was very gracious.
  6. Will any of you be watching the UFC tonight? I'm hoping that Carwin gives Lesnar a proper beat down.
  7. I hereby nominate Houston's Hometown Pravda, aka the Houston Comical, aka the Houston Chronicle for number 13. Read by people that are changing the liner paper in their bird cage.
  8. At least when you sweat in the desert you get a bit of cooling effect. With the humidity down here in SE Texas, you just soak through your clothes and never cool down. Hot is hot, and I am not discrediting the heat you worked in...but I'd gladly trade your 113 degrees and low humidity for my 90 degrees and high humidity. I cranked out a few hundred the other night out in my garage. I was sweating so bad that I had to make sure I wasn't dripping sweat into the cases. It's very therapeutic to sit out there, sweat out the day's evils and produce a product that will put a silly smile on your face. Now, if only I could enjoy a cigar and some cold beer while cranking the handle...

Loud and clear, Grumpy One. Each month, I am so completely stumped that I know my win was a total fluke.

My jug says it is Lot 1930 and what appears to be a date of 3-17-10 I'm not terribly concerned with PF at this point, just spending time at the range mostly. I guess once I get into competition that will all change. I just don't have the time right now.

    Solo 1000

Ran a few rounds down range this afternoon. Loaded 20 rounds up with 3.6gr, 20 with 3.8gr, and 20 with 4.0gr All were topped off with a Precision Bullets 125gr FP. All shot well, great accuracy at 15 yds. Guys, I really like this powder, so far. Glad I jumped into this one with both feet!

Got my jug in this evening....holy crap, an 8# container of powder is HUGE! Did a quick inventory and realized that I will be needing primers in a hurry.
  13. Definitely not normal, in my opinion. I don't know the solution, but I have no doubt that you will get some very good answers in the next few hours.
  14. I really liked both books, but for different reasons. Sort of like a classic Muhammad Ali or Sugar Ray Leonard fight compared to a UFC fight.

From everything I've read on this stuff, I don't think I will be unhappy. Too many of you guys are saying good things about it. I do wish I had been able to get a smaller container for my maiden voyage, but I know I can find a good home for it in the unlikely event that I don't like it.
  16. That reminds me of the scene in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly where "The Man With No Name" is cleaning his pistol and hears the bad guy's spurs in the hallway.

I couldn't find any N320 either, since I discovered VV back in the early '90's I've used N350 almost exclusively for my .40. I would definitely jump on some N320 had I been able to find it locally and/or for a decent price.

I'm glad to hear it's functional in so many different calibers. Now I don't have to worry about stocking so many different flavors!!

Cool. I really liked the TG loads I've been shooting, but they do generate alot of heat...I think you are the one that told me you burned your hand with it.

Duly noted. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I've read it several times, but had forgotten...
  21. +1 on the "need" vs "want" issue, but I do dearly love mine. It's definitely my "go to" gun. For me, it's the size of the grip, the extra weight, and sublime trigger. Bob at Brazos Custom has spoiled me with this one, his high performance package is the "stuff"!
  22. I know this thread is older than dirt, but I just wanted to say that the two books contained in this thread are some of the best books I have read in my adult life. I truly hope that neither book is prophetic, but I can see how there are things happening today that would suggest differently. I thoroughly enjoyed both Unintended Consequences and Atlas Shrugged.
  23. Based on everyone's almost unanimous support of Solo 1000, I purchased an 8# keg from Powder Valley last night. My wife was passed out from allergy medicine when I requested prior approval, so naturally, she said yes. I have absolutely zero experience with this stuff, so I'm a bit nervous that I purchased such a large quantity without previous personal experience. I have faith that you guys are praising this powder because it is just that good. I hope to be one of the Solo 1000 fans by the end of the month! If not, I've got a lot of expensive fertilizer...just kidding.
  24. I got some skateboard grip tape for FREE (woohoo!) from a local skate shop...gotta love teenagers that are inquisitive enough to ask me what I needed it for, but carefree enough to not charge me for the grip tape. So, I've been watching the videos of the trigger install that Springer has on You Tube. And, I have detail stripped my XDM a few times just to see how it ticks. I had the auto take down pretty much figured out and noticed how it could add to the trigger pull. I've read that others have had great success removing this "nanny" feature, so I gave it a go. Came right out without a hitch. In dry fire the trigger does feel a bit smoother, so I hope to see how it functions at the range. After, I got it all put back together I went ahead and grip taped the snot out of the grips. Feels really solid in my hand now, where as before it felt slippery. I don't have big hands by any means, but I do wish the grip was larger. But I think I am just spoiled by my STI 2011's grips. Anyway, I am pretty psyched about it, and looking forward to adding Springer's guts to it in the near future.
  25. Benny - My gun looks like somebody puked burnt oatmeal in it when I shoot AA#7 but I love the way it shoots. As flat as N105 with less straight back recoil. I use it in 38 Super and 9 major albiet in 9 major you got a case full of powder. 4# of N105 or 8# of AA#7 about the same price, and a lot easier to get. Funny you should say that... I made and shot some more AA#7 loads just to make sure what was happening. I still can't figure out how a powder grain that small can grow so big that it keeps a loaded round from going into full battery. I made 7 shots in a row before I got an out of battery situation the other day. That's up from my all time low of 2 the first go 'round. I will be feeding the remaining AA#7 to my plants.
