  1. yeah, replace the original Para adjustable sights with a Bomar. My friend's Para Ltd's rear sight pin broke during a level 3 match and cost him a lot of points big time!
  2. Even after severe arm twisting of my gunsmith, I was not able to convince him to polish the LDA's internals. What was holding him back was the inavailability of LDA parts locally. At the risk of something going wrong, I acceded and just replaced my Para P18-9 LDA's mainspring with a Dawson Precision 17# and 19# MS this afternoon at the range. My stock LDA was breaking at a little over 7#s. With the 19#MS, the trigger pull went down to around 5.5-5.7#s. Replacing with the 17#MS, the trigger was releasing bet. 4.2-4.5#s. There were no ftf's with both the 17 and 19# MS. But since I'm using this LDA for IPSC Production Div, I stuck with the 19# MS. Still, a big improvement over the stock 7# pull.
  3. try using a pencil eraser to rub it off. it won't scratch the lens
  4. hahaha!!! it's already Friday the 13th back here in SE Asia! Have a good one, bro!
  5. finally, my Para LDA came back from the platers. Had the frame blackchromed as the phosphate finish was wearing off and rust spots were starting to form in the mag well area. had the controls polished to contrast the all black pistol. Before After
  6. you did it again, huh, mc_o?!? tsk, tsk
  7. that little squeeze cocker sure is dang purty!!! :-)
  8. thanks bountyhunter! i ordered a 17# and 19# mainspring and will replace the original. i'll have to do some arm twisting with my local gunsmith to disassemble and polish the internals! I'll post the trigger pull results later! PS: Saw that it's Flexmoney's birthday today. Happy Bday Flex!
  9. used to have a model 010. sold it when the 011 came along as it offered more adjustment options. but that's just me
  10. i use both clear and amber in low light. i find the amber gives better contrast
  11. i shoot a para p18-9 in ipsc production here in the philippines. My unit breaks at 7.5#s and the release feels gritty. What parts do i need to replace to get it down to 5#s? thanks!
  12. vinnie: the glock 22 is very versatile. can be used in IDPA (SSP, ESP), IPSC (Production Div, Standard) and USPSA (Limited, Production)
  13. paul788: i also have small hands and i learned to use my support hand thumb to release the mag catch. i found it easier and i don't have to readjust my grip in the process
  14. achard: what base pads and followers are you using? does it still fit the IPSC box?
  15. i like them both! but economics dictate to just 1 choice. a coin toss perhaps? :-)
  16. rich: i bet those medium sized rubbermaid roughneck containers with wheels will make a nice addition to the whole gear cart package. it can be converted to a drink cart and function as a stool! :-)
  17. i've read in the forums that with the available hammer sets like those from Extreme Engineering, Koenig, Brazo's, Dawson, etc. the trigger pull can be set down to a safe, reliable and consistent 1.5#! personally, i'd prefer a smooth, clean break with a relatively heavy pull (2.5-3#) rather than one with a super light trigger pull but the hammer release feels uneven and twisty.
  18. dave: you bent the leg forward (looking from the back of the pistol)? or you bent it back more towards the grip safety? You make it flat, no curve, so more toward the frame. Ditto. Just bend the RH (viewed from rear) leaf of the sear spring a shade flatter (which is moving the top of the leaf AWAY from you) and you can dial the grip safety pressure down to nothing, if that's what you want to do. Thats' it... and I just wanted a really deep indented quote... finally was able to adjust the grip safety spring tension last night to my liking. now it deactivates even with a not so perfect grip! thanks again guys!
  19. so i'm assuming that the aftec does not have the fp block cut-out in it? so by removing the fp block in the paras, it will make the aftec fit without any problems? am i correct to assume this? another question: the aftec doesn't need any tuning or tension testing as it automatically adjusts itself once you install them in with the built in springs? so its basically a drop in part?
  20. shepard: i noticed that most Paras loose the extractor tension too easily. i've been having the same problem with my Para P18-9 LDA and had my 'smith re-tension the extractor. the shell was wiggling too loose under the hook in the breachface. about the Aftec extractor; i read in the printed Dawson Precision Catalog that the aftec will not work in Series 80 Colts and Paras! I wanted to get one but am holding back bec. of the note in their catalog. I emailed them but they haven't answered yet. Is this true? Anybody else have an aftec in their Paras?
  21. Nolan: great gear cart!!! all it needs now is a canopy and a fold out stool!!! but where's the drink cart?
  22. doc kevin: since we all have chinky eyes, we look like we're perpetually squinting anyway!
  23. why, jason... are you doing a tiger woods even if you're not tiger woods yet? hehehe. if you have too many things to think about, expectations become unrealistic and performance suffers. best thing to do is to take a step back, relax, and just shoot!
