  1. The timer I like is the CED 7000. It allows for par time adjustments to .01 of a second. I used to use an R U Ready timer, but that only allowed .5 second adjustments, clearly not enough. However the newer versions might allow .1 second adjustments, check before you buy.
  2. If the functions are about equal, then I will choose the one that is a little more appealing to my eye.
  3. Well I can't comment on what kind of draw times can be accomplished with a Bladetech holster. But I do know that sumpthin' this purty shouldn't be hidin' a ugly black holster.
  4. WOW! That was a quick reply. If you don't mind sharing a little of your experience, have you tried one on a Standard gun, and what do you think of them?
  5. Hey Henning, I see you sell the Double Alpha adjustable thumb rest. Are you planning on selling the newer version, Double Alpha "Standard" adjustable thumb rest? Also, will a Tanfoglio Limited fit in the IPSC Standard box with one installed? The Double Alpha site says it is made a little narrower than the older version, just for us Standard shooters. Are many of the Standard shooters using thumb rests? I don't see any around these parts using them, Open guys sure, but no Standard guys. Maybe it's just because they won't fit the box with them.
  6. I chose the UnderArmor for 2 reasons. #1, they felt more comfortable on my feet. #2, I liked the paddle style cleat under the ball of the foot instead of a spike style. I think it will give better traction in fine to medium gravel and sand, which is about 75% of what I regularly shoot in.
  7. I found the thread, definately worth the read. I liked the line that someone wrote, Aim for "A", miss and get a "C", aim for brown, miss and get a Mike. So true.
  8. Well Chris, I don't know if I should thank you or curse you. My order is in for a DAA Race Master. Your option was the most expensive, but also the newest design by some of the best in the sport, made by one of the biggest names in the sport. It is always fun to show up to a match and have everyone around give you this look, . Uttering those words, "what the hell you got there?" I figured, if I'm going to get a new holster, it might as well be a "new" holster, not one that has been around forever. I'll offer a "thank you" for now, but I might whisper a few curses when the credit card statement gets here.
  9. Dang, that does look good. But it says the end of May for the Tanfoglio holsters, and who knows if that's guaranteed. Says it's been designed with input from Saul and Angus, gotta figure it will be good. But it is about $50 more than a Ghost. Decisions decisions.
  10. A group of us started to place hard cover on targets at our weekly practice sessions, we had usually just used full targets. We started using half targets, "D" zone covered, "C+D" zone covered. We were all quite surprised on the first day of doing this, to get most of our mikes, on the FULL target! After seeing all he hard covered targets, the full one looked huge, and most of us just blasted at it without really aiming. I really found this to be an eye opener for me. I didn't put many hits in the hard cover, and if I did it wasn't by much, so how could I miss a full targets at the same distance? I believe it just came down to being lazy with my focus/seeing. Thinking it was an easy target, no need to concentrate on the sights, just point and shoot right? Yeah sure. After a few weeks of doing this, we went back to full targets. I find that overall, I get less misses now, but not because I practiced to shoot Alphas, but because I learned to see the sights for every shot. My confidence to be able to make hard shots increased, and it helped me to learn when to slowdown just a bit and see the sights. I guess my point here is that I don't think that covering all but the "A" zone of the target in practice will be that benificial in a match with full targets, because you may get a little lazy thinking they are so big, how could you miss. I now try to put up a variety of tagets in my practices, about 6 to 8. Overlapping with scoring tagets and PT's, hard cover, and full ones. I just keep aiming for the "A" zone, whatever the targets looks like. I find it's more realistic to a match set-up, and this has been the most helpful for me.
  11. Thanks Cha-Lee, pics help alot. I did move my retaining plate down, but not back. Your gun definately fits better in your holster than mine. Although I can't get my fingers on the trigger while holstered, I could see someone maybe making a stink about it if I'm doing too good at a match . Since I still have my CZ, I don't want to mess up this holster anymore than I already have. So looks like I'll be spending a couple bucks on a new holster. I have a little voice that keeps whispering in my ear (anyone else hear this voice?) it's saying Ghost, for some reason. Still not sure, but it's got my attention.
  12. Great replies guys, lots of information. Somehow, I still don't know what to do. My CZ TS worked great in my CR Speed holster, never seemed to hang up on me when drawing, and it was very secure when locked in. If I could find something to work as well with my Tanfo, I'd be happy. I would prefer one of the race style holsters, but it sounds like most have issues with the Tanfo, or just have issues. Looks like I'm going to have to make a real effort at the next match to see what holster guys are wearing. Maybe if I get a chance to see them and see how they work, I'll get a better feeling for one of them. The only other holster I've used was an Uncle Mikes when I first started, and I had my fill of that thing. I've seen some ads for the CR Speed that says it has holsters specific to certain guns, anyone know if they have one for the Limited Tanfoglio? Thanks again for all the info guys.
  13. For those who have the Tanfoglio Limited, if you also shoot IPSC, have you tried the Speedsec 5 holster and what do you think of it? I've been using my old CR Speed holster that was for my CZ Tactical Sport, after alot of modifications. But I've had to use almost all the spacers that came with the holster because the trigger guard on the Limited is so narrow, and now the gun doesn't sit straight in the holster (because all the spacers fit on one side only) and often hangs up when I draw. I'm considering the Speedsec 5 because Henning recommends it, (what more do I need right?). My concern is that I have seen other styles of this holster, with no muzzle support, and some seem to allow the gun to flop around quite a bit. Another one mentioned having to drill the gun, . I'd apprieciate any input/personal experiences with this holster. How sturdy is it, does the gun come out clean or drag a bit, how firm is the hold on the gun when locked? Any other info or recommendations would be very helpful. Thanks guys, Dan
  14. Something else you could look into, I have a CED 7000 timer. I haven't tried this function yet, but I was told that it has a function that lets you monitor, "secretly", another shooters shots, just like the official timer the R.O. is carrying. You could have someone use it on you, then use it on another shooter and then you could compare where the differences are. I would think this would show you exactly what your splits, transitions, etc are compared to what someone else is doing, and not what you think they are. I've seen videos of me doing somethings quite a bit differently/slower then what I thought I was doing. As I said, I haven't tried this function yet, so I might be totally out to lunch here. Anyone here ever tried doing this?
  15. I also received a Limited recently, and it too has quite abit of play in the slide to frame fit. My CZ Tactical Sport was very tight in comparison, even after 25,000 rounds through it. But shooting groups from 25 yards, as far as I can tell it's exactly the same. I like the way the Limited handles better, less flip, back on targets faster, etc, but this is about accuracy. I'll go with everyone else here and say it's the lock-up that matters, as for my gun at least, the slide seems to come to rest in the same position each time for the next shot.
  16. I had reset issues as well. Polished everything that moves when I pull the trigger, ok now. Had to do a lot (a whole lot) of polishing where the trigger bar meets the plunger for the mag release. I also ended up trimming my trigger down because it was contacting the guard when it was at the end of the pull.
  17. Sounds like a good way to narrow down the problem, and I do have the extra power extractor spring. Thanks for the input.
  18. My new Limited seems to eject the brass every which way. It always ejects, no failures, but is this an indication of a possible problem? I've had a few almost hit me in the head coming straight back, and quite a few actually going forward which seems a little odd to me.
  19. Well that was pretty easy. Less than 30 minutes from start to finish and no more ouchy. I didn't really want to put on a smaller safety, I like how this one holds the gun up a little higher when having to start with it on a table in IPSC. Makes picking it up a little easier. Wow! I just realised something. Because of the mag well, the gun kinda stands on it's own, . I'm use to having to lay the gun down on it's side and pick it up that way. If the gun will stand up like that, and the stage briefing doesn't specify that it has to lay on it's side,... hmmmm. I'm gonna have to check the rule book on this one. Most stage briefings around these parts just say the gun has to point down range and can't be propped up useing a mag or other item, but if it stands on it's own, cool! It probably won't save me a huge amount of time, but I like to see those eyes get real big when something new happens.
  20. I installed my new XL firing pin, but now the firing pin block sticks out of the slide quite a bit. Is the firing pin block suppose to be removed, or is it ok to shoot like this?
  21. A higher grip is better for handleing the recoil. I'll trim my safety.
  22. I seem to have my new Limited Custom working pretty good now, so I started to get a little more serious about my practice. I was trying some weak hand shooting and all I can say is "ouch". The safety feels great when shooting freestyle, my thumb sit on there just fine. But weakhand,... it really digs into my left hand. I'm gonna have to trim the safety down. Not only does it dig in, but the safety actually moved to the "on" position while I was shooting. Anyone else have this problem, or is my left hand deformed?
  23. My new Limited Custom also was shooting very low when I got it. I have my elevation screw almost all the way out as well. I won't even bother to try any sights that are taller than the factory one. I doubt there is enough screw left to get an accurate and proper sight alignment with anything taller.
