I've got a 617 that spits lead, and is filthy to shoot. I also have a 1960 M17 that doesn't.
I bought a little tool to check the forcing cones, before I send it in for gunsmithing.
Here's the tool
I'm shooting .38 short colt in a S&W 627, using 2.8gr of Clays.
With a 160gr coated bayou bullet my average fps is 767. When I switch to Barry's plated 158gr (same profile, same oal) my average fps drops to 693.
A drop of about 10%.
Is that normal?
I'm not talking about ammo, primers, or fireworks. I'm asking why Bayou is five or six months behind, and other bullet manufacturers are shipping in a week?
These days with half the country hiding from the rona, and the other half getting paid to stay home from work, finding decent employees isn't as easy as it used to be.
