  1. Kurt, Thanks for the information. I have a new firing pin on order. I'll post an update if the new firing pin looks different. The broken pin looks like a MIM part. I'll have to check it our better this evening and compare it with the one that should arrive on Wednesday. Rodney
  2. Anyone have any experience with thier Browning Gold breaking a firing pin? I was practicing my reloads on Sunday afternoon and had the dredded click (hammer fall) but no bang. Rack, clear, click, no bang, etc., etc. Took it apart, checked out the bolt and the rear of the firing pin had broken off. The gun has been completely reliable up this point, about 2000 rounds fired. This seems like an non-typical failure but I wanted to see what others experience has been. Thanks, Rodney
  3. I have had great success with Arrendondo springs and Grams springs. I have no personal experience with any other brands.
  4. Herb, The lighting can make a big difference in chrono results. Even two different overcast days can make a difference. Try a hood over the diffusers or try shooting both loads back to back on the same day with the same lighting to get a comparative difference between results. Hope this helps. Rodney
  5. I found some Aero Slugs here in the US . Ballistic Products offers them for $2.59/box. The link is attached below. Just page down and you will see them in the Fiocchi section. Ballistic Products
  6. Tom, Having another pistol is never a bad thing, but fitting another barrel to your pistol would not be a big deal. Here are a few links to some sources that could do the work for you : Evolution Gun Works Rogers Precision There are more sources out there but George and Chuck both do excellent work !
  7. The rules pretty well follow USPSA limited rules with the exception being no bull barrels and tactical type holsters and mag pouches worn in-line with the hip or behind. 45 or 40, both loaded with 8+1, score as major so pick what you prefer and have a good time. It is a great match. For the last two years TGO has gives classes on Thursday to the first shooters who signed up on Friday.
  8. I have been looking into purchasing a new scope for MOR class. Based on current finances I narrowed it down to the 4.5x14 or 6.5x20 long range Leupold M1 scopes. I am leaning towards the 6.5x20 but wanted to see what others preference might be and why? Thanks.
  9. If you have not purchased your front sight yet, JP makes a very nice adjustable height front sight that will correct this problem. I have a DPMS rear with the JP adjustable height front and really like the combination. I did not have any problems setting my 200 yard elevation zero with the front sight.
  10. Nate, I had one crack about two-three years ago. I called SV and they sent me a new one (actually two) in the mail. SV's customer service is hard to beat.
  11. I tumble my loaded rounds and run them trough my Dillon media separator when fisished tumbling. it works great.
  12. Zero or Montaona Gold 180 grainers in 40 and Montana Gold 200 gr in 45. Both loaded on top of N320 to 170 PF.
  13. If it brings more people out to shoot 3-gun, it is a good addition to the sport.
  14. Try this link. Speed Shooters Intl. They can take care of your SV grip needs. Enjoy your SV.
  15. I use 38TJ in my open gun. I can not answer the case capacity question since I have used TJ brass since the pistol was built. The TJ brass will work fine in a 38S chamber. You will have to re-adjust the extractor tension. If you are using a Dillon 650 in 38 sSuper just change to the .223 shell plate (shellplate #3) and you will be set.
  16. Try this link. Accuracy Speaks sells a trigger kit for your 1100 or you can have them do the trigger job for you. Accuracy Speaks
  17. I purchased one for my single stack 45 and really like it. It gives great support to the bottom of your hand for a much better feeling grip as well as a nice large mag well opening. You will not be disappointed with your purchase.
  18. Thanks for the help. I'll look into the Briley version. Rodney
  19. I am getting my 11-87 setup for open class and I am looking for a mag extension that can give me 10+1 rounds in the gun. The longest Choate model is listed at 9+1. I have seen others post with tube that gives 10+1. Where could I find a longer extension other than the Choate (if possible). I did a search and could not fid anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rodney
  20. If I remember correctly, the SVI slides with the interchangable breechfaces use firing pin springs that are shoter than the standard 1911 firing pin spring. I had one of the earlier versions and needed to shorten a standard firing pin spring to elimiate the coil bind.
  21. Glad to hear the instructions with the barrel have changed. Mine was purchased over a year ago and specifically stated that the chamber was precut and could not be re-cut due to the chamber fluting. I should have checked it after it was fitted anyhow. Oh well, live and learn.
  22. My AET 40 barrel had similar problems. It turned out to be a tight chamber. Cleaned up the camber with a reamer and now it is fine. I have been un-impressed with AET barrels, due to several people I know having similar problems. In the future I will stick with the standard barrel. (Edited by Yendor at 8:19 am on Feb. 1, 2003)
  23. Thanks guys for all the input. I'll charge ahead with the RRA. Rodney
  24. I am looking for an AR15 to give 3gun a try and was considering buying one from Rock River Arms. Seems like they have some pretty good features out of the box and the price is better than other brands I have loooked at. Does anyone have any experience with RRA rifles? Any other suggestions?
