  1. Well the FNH 3 Gun Championship results are in, I officially moved up from 84th place of 118 competitors to 98th of 143 this year. This represents a 3% improvement that is a lot of coin spent for 3%. New rifle upper, 6 personal trainer sessions, modification to pistol to make it Limited. Things I think I did right: I did not get DQ'd and did not time out on any stage Things I did wrong with my training: Too much emphasis on shotgun loading Not enough real trigger time with pistol at small targets Not enough trigger time on the rifle, particularly past 200 yards My steel targets course is one day away from being completely set up. I will call my rifle target guy today and get him off his butt to deliver my rifle targets. There will be no repeat for the Ozark 3 gun.
  2. yesterday I got back into the gym for 2 miles of treadmill work and short circuit which includes curls, buterfly, tricep extension and lat pull down
  3. I am pretty sure I was in the 90's. Congratulations on your finish. I think you got up there while there was still hardware? It was nice to put a name to a face, I would love to get in a squad with you to have you show me some of the tricks to that weakhand loading. I did much better, but have a lot of practice ahead of me. I am not at all dissapointed, just encouraged by my progress. Last year's match was my first 3 gun and I have only shot a total of 4 so far. I just need some more trigger time and practice and am fortunate to have the opportunity to improve.
  4. Shot the Midwest 3 Gun this past weekend. I have a long way to go. I needed work on the shotgun reloading and did improve, even over the course of the three days, but several new weaknesses / opportunities for improvement were revealed: 1. I didnt hit clay birds at all, let alone trap style 2. I need work on the long range rifle out to at least 400 yds 3. I really struggled hitting pistol steel. this is really the one I am kickinig myself for since I have 35 steel that are sitting in the barn. Well, at least I know where to begin for the Ozark 3 gun challenge!
  5. We shot stages 7-10 the first day in the sucking mud. The RO's and FNHUSA guys did a fantastic job of keeping everyone smiling through the tough conditions. Ken, Larry Rip, Missy, Steve and all of the fantastic RO's made the match and made me want to come back again next year. Many thanks to the University of Missouri Marine unit helping out at the match. I got to visit at length on stage 9 with a young marine setting the steel for the star and he calculated that with no extra trips he got to go reset that Texas star 106 times that day and he was covered in mud. It was a privelage to help him. We watched a sad affair occur on stage 6. As previously mentioned, someone in the Sunday 7 Am squad cleaned the steel in 7 shots, an absolutely amazing display of marksmanship that we spontaniously applauded (twice). Another shooter shot his shotgun, ran to the two ton and hosed 6 shots out fast as he could pull the trigger and quit. He then exited the stage crowing about it. I was personally standing there when the RO told him to come back up that they had failed to add his FTE's (30 seconds) to his time and he told them he had already signed it and would not let them correct it. So he gamed the hell of it AND got the mistake in his favor. Of course several in my squad were considering shooting it this way as happens when other competitiors see a loophole exploited, it is natural to want to shoot as low a time as possible. MD Ken Flood and Rip put an end to that after a short meeting with his great RO's on the stage he "encouraged" our squad to shoot it in the spirit it was intended. Then the 18 year old kid Matt Sweeney gets up there first in our squad and shoots a net 50 second run, hitting the bonus on the first shot and cleaning the steel. Take that GAMERS! What a display! Wait till Mr Sweeney gets a few years in the AMU he is signing into Monday and it will be like watching Horner. I thought the RO's were much strickter than last year, but you can't compromise safety and the MD was absolutely clear at the shooters meeting. It seemed it was DQ day on Saturday. We lost one on the first stage with a round in his magwell on his pistol in the box and on infamous stage 4 with a round in the tube. Mind you this was after watching two from the squad ahead of us go for the same thing...and after a smoking run! Hey, I didn't time out, didn't DQ and had a blast, so I am happy, encouraged to keep training and will see everyone at the Ozark 3 Gun Challenge!
  6. 3# JP fire control group. As a relatively new shooter I can tell you the JP fire control group is the best single stage trigger I have put in my hands. It is a little more finicky to put in the gun, but I have over 5K rounds on mine and am very pleased.
  7. What an inspiring instructional video. I have a LONG way to go!
  8. 10-15-2010 1.5 hours shotgun loading 10-16-2010 2 hours on range working on shotgun reloading, 1 shot draws, trigger press and sight alignment. the shotgun relaoding is getting marginally better, but still having a hard time transitioning shells 2,3, 4 to the receiver.
  9. 5-10-2010 30 minutes with the shotgun
  10. Range time last night 2 hours. I worked on El Prez, shot the plate rack and did shotgun loading drills. I shot around 250 pistol rounds and 50 shotgun rounds. My shotgun loading is really getting me down, I just can't get it smoooth. I was shooting a plate, loading 4 and shooting another plate in like 9 seconds, I suck. With the shotgun round count at 135+ for the FN match, I have to work on this everyday, but my goal to peak for FN definitely wont be achieved on the shotgun.
  11. rifle work tonight till it got dark.
  12. 5-3 100 PU/ 100 Su 15 minutes shotgun
  13. Jesse, that is some nice reloading! In the past you have advised that I practice some without the spring in (ithink?). It looks like you are getting those shells in there very easily...if the spring is in in this video, what is the key to getting the shell into the chamber so easily for you?
  14. 4-29 30 minutes airsoft 1 shot par timer drills; 30 minutes loading the shotgun
  15. I totally suck loading the shotgun. I thought I was OK, but have tried to convert to weak hand and after a concentrated 45 minutes of dummy round loading practice tonight, I am totally screwed up. I cant tell which way I am going to go and I have about a month till my big shoot. Looks like I have a lot of work to do. My main problem is fumbling with the shells during the attempt to load one of them. I am grabbing 4 off the belt at a time. Loading the singles off the carrier is faster weak, loading off the belt is faster strong
  16. This is a great idea and a timely thread. Thanks to those willing to share their routines to help those of us trying to build one.
  17. Mine wont run anything. I went a different route and will sell the kit when I have time.
  18. I run a JP trigger in my competition AR and a Geissele in a DPMS 308 LR. There is no comparing the two. They are both great triggers for what their function is, but I personally would not consider having a two stage trigger in competition. Frankly, I slap the trigger at times on the AR and in my personal competition shooting world the Geisselle would be a waste of money. It is the sweetest two stage trigger on the planet though; I love it on the 308.
  19. Practiced airsoft single shot draws against a par timer. Started out with 2 seconds which was way too slow and ended up with 1.6 seconds. Shot 50 rounds at 1.6 seconds and lost twice. PU/SU/ Dips: 50/50/20 Too tired to do last set. Got my new 1-4 Burris XTR mounted on the Firebird.
  20. I have had both platforms. I visually enjoyed the Armalite better, but I have less than half the money in a DPMS based build. For the amount I shoot it, the DPMS is the more affordable alternative IMO.
  21. I made 4 mag pouches using this design. They fit my Glock airsoft and regular mags as well as my XD mags. I tried the oven first, but had the most luck with my heat gun folding it one corner at a time. Thanks for the tip and the design...If anyone has a design for an AR15 mag, please post it so I can complete the set!
  22. I was getting ready to order the Landsharks when I stopped by my local sporting good store. They had a set of Reebok Play dry in my size for $20 on clearance...problem solved. They are quite comfortable.
