  1. The autobiography of Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in US history. I downloaded this to my Kindle Friday night and could not put it down. SEAL Chris Kyle is obviously one BAMF, but the book is told in the first person with trememdous insight into major battles in the Iraq war and the force multipier role of the sniper. You will not be dissapointed with this one.
  2. GA Precision (GAP) in Kansas City is well regarded in the precision shooting community and great people to deal with. I have had two long range barrels cut, recrowned and threaded by them. When the barrels came back I opened the box and was pissed because I thought they had not threaded them. The work was so precise I could not tell they had stainless protectors on the threads. The down side is the wait. Make sure you aske them how long it will take. I had a local smith thread my son's hunting rifle and my competition AR so that both could use the AAC. He did a great job and they were both done inside a week at 2/3 the cost.
  3. We had a great time shooting this match. Thank you to Kirk, Larry, all of the ROs who worked their asses off to put this Match on. Thanks to all the sponsors who donate money and product to keep us all hopefull of a top finish. Thanks to 3GN for their innovative involvement bringing our amazing sport to a previously unimagined level. Living in the area, I was able to make brief visits to the range while the guys were setting up and I can tell you that Kirk, Kenny, Robert Heffner and a host of other VOLUNTEERS worked tireless long hours to bring this match together. Before you log on to voice your complaints with the outcome (which is your right!), try to take a step back and think about what it would have been like to be the MD and realize you could not gets the final scores out. A tough spot for sure. Squad 6 included Team Geezer and a Texas contingent that made a fine showing. Thank you Lonny and Andrew for all the advice and to the rest of the squad for helping take care of our older shooters including my Dad. You are a fine group of men and make Texas proud. Finally, congratulations to Rustin Bernskoetter. A private unsponsored shooter in his first shoot off making it to the finals against Daniel Horner. How cool was that to watch? We will see more of Rustin, and what a great ambassador for our sport.
  4. I received one this past Wednesday I ordered from Midway so long ago I almost forgot about it. I have run three stages with it at O3GC, they flat work. Narrower than coupled mags, but still a great prone rest. Don't ask me how I am going to clean the thing, the schematic looks like it has three different springs and two followers. The most I have run through it so far is 38 at once, but it saved me a mag change. FWIW, I think it was well worth the money.
  5. Check this new product out from Surefire http://www.surefire.com/SF-MAG5-60 http://www.surefire.com/SF-MAG5-100
  6. With the initial orders to be filled any day now, I decided it was the time to talk to Scott @ Liberty Optics and get my order in the mix. If you are a Hide member, make sure he knows it. You will not be dissapointed. Awesome service and great pricing. Deal with confidence.
  7. Tim, this is a really good tip. I will examine the firing pin and the rear of the bolt where the firing pin rests or hits. I am not a clean freak, but do take the BCG apart after every session clean and lube it. I don't take it apart past that. Could be the bolt assembly itself. Thanks for your thoughts.
  8. Doubling did not happen on the LR stages. Great point. It is possible I was bumping it. The loads/gun was going into battery. I will pull the entire assembly apart and double check the lugs. The carrier was clean
  9. JP trigger. I will examine the disconnect...Thanks
  10. At the O3GC this past weekend I had my rifle double once on stage 9 and on stage 1 on the hoser stuff it ran through about 5 ...should have seen the RO's eyes; he thougt I was fast! (at this point I am thinking high primers?) On that same stage, I had one load in to the chamber and not shoot. ejected it. Second shell, the same thing, then everything back to normal. A squad member picked up the live rounds and they did not have a primer punch at all. Not a mark on them. (at this point I am thinking gun problem?) On stage 6 the next day after the gun had been cleaned, shot more and performed flawlessly, it went into "do not fire mode"; three failure to fire on the RV stage in a row and then back to normal. No primer marks at all. Anybody guess what is going on? I really need a direction. I checked the specs on the bullets, they were all within spec.
  11. Kirk, Chad, Damon, Adams Arms, Samson Mfg and 3 Gun Nation, a big Thank You for your hard work - you folks put on a great match. Every stage was well thought out and very challenging. The RO's were all terrific guys who were helpful and friendly. The 3GN addition brought great coverage to the event and to the area and was a blast to watch. See you next year!
  12. Agree, Dog Days is lots of fun and good food... Shorty pants sounds like a place that might be worth visiting if it's warm outside Is Dock Knockers still around? Yes, but much further from the MH this year. We have been having a lively debate here at the Lake this summer about the perception of police targeting the last call crowd. More to the point, the police are targeting the last call crowd and the bar owners are screaming foul in unison. Fun stuff!
  13. Jesse, thanks for putting the stage descriptions up, you are the man! For those of you not from the area, I want to share little local knowledge on restaurants...There is a little known spot on A road called "Willows" that serves fantastic homestyle food and is a great sports bar (you will pass it on the right as you head to the match). This has almost become a weekly spot for my family. Accross from the MH (match hotel) is J Bruners, one of the best steak houses in the area. City Grill/ Blue Room is respectable and has a nightclub (W of MH). Chicago Brothers serves the best pizza in town and is a couple miles West of the match hotel one block West on KK. For those that need their morning jo or Latte (Jesse) there is a Panera bread accross the bridge from the MH. Off water bars: Check out Pickled Petes just W of MH On water bars/Rest: (You really should try these!) My favorite is Shorty Pants 54 to KK to 3 seasons road (fantastic cajun). Dog days is accross 54 from the MH and is owned by the Barrets who also own Shorty Pants. This is a local legend as is the Topsider on the other side of the cove. Food at Dog Days is EXCELLENT. Backwater Jacks and the Toad are still popular for those who want to tempt the longer drive. See you next week!

  15. For those of us who feel Facebook is for our wives, please let us know when the stages are on the forconquest site. Thanks
  16. worked out the 12th, 14th, 16th 17th and 18th of July. Shooting only long range at this time.
  17. I haven't posted in a while but have consistently maintained my tree day a week work out routine. I have only shot the .308 for accuracy at 100yards. One of the biggest weaknesses to my 3 gun game is my inability to hit moving clays. I worked on this this weekend by going to a skeet range and shooting 2 rounds of traditional skeet. I was terrible, but got a number of great pointers from my group and felt dramatically improved my performance. I used my tactical gun with the Mod choke to keep it consistent with what we will see in upcoming matches.
  18. I shot Limited pistol steel Tuesday evening along with prone 223 and 308 rifle out to 200 yards. Shot a 6 stage steel challenge match with the open .22 today. My 8 year old son joined in for his first ever match. Proud as I was, I think his grandfather was even more impressed. I was more worried about him shooting someone to actually enjoy the performance (unfounded but I am the dad). I let my instructor and another serious shooter RO and instruct him and I marked his times. This really worked well and my shooting buddies were great with him. Thanks guys! The little turd can shoot, and he already wants to go fast, so the countdown is on till the first time he beats me!
  19. 2.4 miles last nite in 24 minutes. Been on vacation and no working out for almost 10 days so I felt slow. Got 6 more steel challenge targets this weekend painted up and ready to set out at the range. Mowed it Sunday now just have to get over there and shoot it.
  20. my SLP shelled a piston on the first shot of a 22 target stage at the 2009 FNH. It was an ugly single shot after that. The groans from my squad and the next squad at having to watch that spectacle were not nearly as painful as the hole I ripped into my hand racking the slide 22 times on the clock.
  21. 6/2 I finally got out to the range to shoot the new steel. I purchased 35 steel targets similar to what we shot at FNH. Also bought a couple of steel challenge type targets. They were awesome to shoot and my 8 yr old helped reset in exchange for getting to shoot the Ruger .22...heck of a deal
  22. Hit the gym yesterday. 2.0 miles on the treadmill at 6-6.3 mph Circuit including curls, butterfly, tricep pull down and lat pulls.
  23. This is a link to the trap range where we are planning on having stats, camping, awards ceremony, vendors, and food. We may even set up a stage there. It is 2.7 miles from the property we are shooting on. Hope this gives you a good idea. http://www.shootata.com/content/ata_zones/club.aspx?clubid=300000 Dont pay any attention to the Map listed on the above page, it references a business office not the range: Here are the directions: From US Hwys 5 and 54 Intersection go east on Hwy 54 2 1/2 miles to State Hwy A. Turn south on Hwy A and continue 6 miles to our grounds. From Osage Beach it would be 4 miles west on Hwy 54 to Hwy A. Other Notes: RV Hook-ups available . Vendors during large registered shoots, loc in middle of family vac.resort
