  1. After shooting the last couple of months to 1k, 300-500 yards at a 3-Gun match is NOTHING!

On my 308 loads for 1k, I do a good amount of prep. I've got the routine down to 50 rounds (loaded) in 2 hours with virgin brass. You can chamfer if you want, but honestly, a 2-3 MOA rifle is good enough in 3-Gun.

  2. 200 yards seems to work for everything. Your hold overs at 300+ are minimal. You're hold unders for <200 are pretty minimal too. Really depends on your scope and reticle. For "long range" 3-Gun matches, I run an old Sightron scope with a double diamond reticle. Frankly, it's awesome!

On a match where the longest shot is 300, I have my Meopta and zero it with the top of the dot at 100. Everything else is "in the dot".

  3. Hank - Put all the guns down for about 2-4 weeks (or whatever feels right). You'll know when you're ready to come back. Work on fitness, the house, whatever. Point being, step away, recharge the batteries/hit the reset button and then you'll probably be better than having practiced like a beast over that same time frame.

Of course...there is the school of thought that says burry yourself in shooting to push through that barrier and there's some logic to this...just hasn't worked for me.

  4. I did some research on the web and only found the airport as a source for cars. Did you find something different?
FWIW, it's way cheaper to NOT rent a car at the airport in Vegas.

Find 1-2 friends (or fellow BE'ers) to pool together to get 3 people in a car.

    Done.

    Step 1: Yahoo Yellow Pages

Step 2: Location = Las Vegas, NV

Step 3: Enter "Rental Car" into Search

There's about a half dozen (at least) on Fremont Street. :)

  5. The only reason you can be upset of a result is if you empower that result to dictate your feelings. I used to do this a lot! Like Dave said, focus on the execution.

I shot our monthly 1k rifle match this weekend. First one and went in to it with the following goals:

    - Be smooth with preparation for each position

    - Be smooth with the preparation for each shot

    - Work the problem of the wind and have faith in the elevation data collected to date

    - Execute a clean shot, make any necessary adjustments and repeat

As a side "goal" I just didn't want to finish last as our club here has a pool of some great shooters. I got whooped up and down by the wind. However, in spite of poor wind calls my shots were grouped well and while others complained about the pace/speed of the match, setup time, etc. I remained calm and was able to shoot my game.

The same goes for you. Try to detach emotion from the result. That doesn't mean not be critical of your performance, but take a step back, analyze what happened. What went well. What could be improved (not what went wrong as that's negative). Identify the areas of improvement, identify the means to correct it and build from the positives.

You'll see that your emotional status will be much higher and in turn your performance will sky rocket.

  6. Limited does not have a box..on a mag length restriction.

Production and SS use the box .

box with internal dimensions of 8 15/16” x

    6” x 1 5/8” (tolerance +1/16”, -0”)

Not so fast my friend. Pretty sure there's one in IPSC. USPSA may just be (slowly) getting in line with the IPSC rules. If this is the case too, bring on the hi-caps!

  7. No.

First, your classification (initially) is the best 4 of the most recent 6.

Second, a "major" only counts as a classifier if there's 3 GM's in the division results.

If an Unclassified shooter shot in the upper 10% of the overalls using Production gear (I wouldn't allow a switch to an open gun/say he had one in the car as the pistols wouldn't be identical) that's doing some shooting.

  8. I still find it funny the $11.5k rifle has a "low dollar" scope on it.

What Bobby & Trapr said is true. I'm learning that with my LR/T that while everything is "square" on the exterior, there's a slight cant in the reticle. I hold it's "level", but when I look at my level, it's off.

  9. I have 4-140's & 2-170's. I run with the short guys as much as possible. Basically, it's string dependent on:

A - Whether I use a big stick or not

B - Whether I start with a stick or reload to the big stick

My Grams mags never fail. :D After Beven, Bobby would be my next call.
