In looking at the poll results and knowing my BE brotheren (and sisters) I'm not surprised over a skew to the south and Texas/Oklahoma. However...is anyone else surprised that staying in CA got so many votes?

Nice.
One of these days I'll come play with you guys. Have a great match at a gorgeous facility!!!

They stopped giving us bonuses for getting people to join so that's toned down the "aggressiveness" of the recruiting effort.

Anyone can get on to any military installation. Driver's license and a stated reason is usually all you'll need.
If the weather is good, and you get there on Thursday, take a drive on the base down to Fry drop zone and watch brand new Airborne soldiers earn their wings (if the school is open that late in to December).

Vince - Now that's just mean dangling that carrot in front of me of a job.
Jack - I would be happy there. Simple and easy in Columbia. Stef's not so keen on the idea. But hey...if I go to Florida, we'll invite you and Spurrier down to Gainesville to look at what a BCS trophy looks like.

The Lee Zip Trim works too. Yes...it really does.

Holy crap!

While I'm partial to the G34, there's a wise person that once said that every good American should own a G17.

And Bobby's favorite thing...a 50 BMG legal range in the city limits of Gainesville!

So I've been planning all week to go do 1k yard practice with our local "sniper"/long range practical club but been slammed ALL week with school and work. Thursday night, I literally passed out for a much needed nap. Got up about 8pm and did all the stuff around the house as well spend a little time with Stef. Hit the sack early, deciding to get up at 3am to do brass prep and loading of the 50 additional rounds that I'd need.
Alarm didn't go off, but got up at 4. Got done prepping and loading 50 rounds in just about 2.5 hours. Not bad really. Got to the range to find that they had already started and that while I probably could have got in there, it just was too late, and I would have been playing catch up all day. Decided to go down to the 100 and just get some atmospheric data and work on some fundamentals.
Met up with 2 other guys in the LR club and we just hung out on the 100 for about 3.5 hours. Take my weather data, shoot a group and relax and setup for the next group. Pretty sweet actually. Being able to just sit at the range and BS and enjoy some time with fellow shooters.
I love our sport (IPSC/3-Gun) but at times the testosterone is more than a bit annoying. Some quiet range time at the 100 and then 300 yard lines were great. Learned a lot (that my cold bore shot at 100 is right where it's supposed to be and learned too how many rounds it take for my rifle to "warm up" to hit POA. Practiced my NPA & breathing and have established what I think is a good pre-shot routine, for EVERY shot. Still working on adding to it for different positions, but all in all, I think it relaxes me and prints on paper much better (groups were routinely about .5-.75 MOA; not earth shattering but I'll take it for basically a stock rifle).
Good times on the range with good people.

Great. Nice catch Bobby, but you should have done it while Susan was on the couch typing it. Yep...got to have the, "great...so they only want you...fine then...go...see if I care?" discussion.
Not really.
I'm pretty sold (edited from we're) on being a Gator. That said, I'm still going to apply to a bunch of places, and Mercer (Savannah, GA) still being on the list.

Dave,
No matches during the week. No ranges in Natomas (it's where I live). However, if you go south on the 99, you can go to Elk Grove Gun Room. Not too far and not too expensive for indoor shooting. Yolo Sportsman in Davis is open Wednesday thru Sunday. Sac Valley Shooting Center is open Friday thru Tuesday, and you can shoot everything there (doing 1k tomorrow).

Pretty sure I heard similar about the Canadian buy out. Through the rumor mill (so I apologize for errors) the company that is buying out Sportsmans Warehouse is the same that owns DPMS, Remington, et. al. Anyways...I'm excited that I get to shoot for another month or two. The SR's are for Benning. The BR2's are for practice and the Allegheny.

So I picked up a couple thousand BR's and some CCI Small rifle primers. Should be on the road tomorrow.
Prices:
CCI BR's - $70/k
CCI SR - $55/k
All in all not bad really (given the way things are). If you call Kurt at 406.443.4119) and let him know Richard White sent you, they've got a ton of primers. Mostly CCI & Federal.

Anyone? (cricket...cricket...)

I know of this rifle you speak and it will be mine...oh yes...it will be mine.

One word why 300WM over 308...Afghanistan.
As for why not 338 Lapua, like Trapr, I don't think it's "much" better and like Pat, would say that if something needs to be taken out with more than a 300WM (i.e. objects) just bring a 50.

I'll defer to d.carden's report of me and hopalong's journeys making this exact trip. While everything without off without a hitch flying into and out of B'ham...getting to Benning was another story.
Dan - To answer your question, in order for everything to time out JUST right, you have to take a 630 (I think) departure out of Oakland to make a connection in Phoenix. Then, if I recall, it's a non-stop to Birmingham. Then drive another 2-3 hours.
Sam says he's got a bigger truck now, so we're good, but that's if we fly in a day before and watch the RO's shoot (not a bad idea actually) especially since it'll get us oriented in how to get to the range. All I know is it's on the Kelly Hill side of the base.

I'm not up on all the military stuff, but I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the original (or current) M24's are LA's so that the armorer can spin on either a 300 WM or 308 barrel, swap the bolt and then go play.
