  1. Below is part of a reply I made in a post on Master Blaster bullets, maybe it will help you out. This COL has worked great in my Para guns. "I've been using WST for my .40 loads for the past year or two and I can't say enough about it..... it's great. I've shot MB and WST out of two pistols... a factory para with factory barrel and another with an ulitmatch barrel. The factory barrel is a little slower than the ultimatch. The following data gives me about 167pf in the factory bbl and about 169pf in the ultimatch. .40 cal. Master Blaster 180 gr. bullet COL = 1.148 Win small pistol primers WST = 4.7 gr. As you know... your mileage may vary... so work up your loads carefully."
  2. gpo, I shoot mostly lead or coated lead(master blaster type) bullets in 175 SWC, 180 FP and 200 FP. I have used all the powders you listed with the exception of the VV310 which I think is too fast for .40. I am very happy with WST with the above listed lead bullets. WST is a low density powder so it fills the case fuller to give better, more consistent burns. WST gives me very good (consistent) chrono numbers and it burns cleaner than many of the other powders that I've tried. As far as springs go, I use a 15lb recoil spring and a 17lb mainspring which seem to be working pretty good for me right now.

I think the A.G.I. video/cd are worth taking a look at if you would rather video over a book.

  5. Chris, Mine arrived on Oct. 13, maybe they needed another day or two to get a little further south... tyro
  6. I have been shooting factory Para blue-black mags (.40 cal) for 5 yrs. with 0 problems. The first time I changed springs was after 2 yrs., not because of any reliability problems but more for peace of mind. The only thing that I have done to them is to keep them clean.
  7. big GREEN showed up today in Louisiana
  8. texasag93, I have a CR set up for a P16. I think that this CR is designed to work with 1911 round trigger guards and the S_I guns. I just assumed that since CR sells another model for Glocks, the CR that I have wouldn't work with them. Which CR do you have and what adjustments are necessary to run the three different types of guns ?? I don't have a glock, but if I can get it to fit my current CR rig without to much trouble (read: not having to buy a new CR, belt, magpouches) it makes buying one look that much better. I've had the glock 35 recommended to my be others. Whats your opinion of it... thanks, tyro
  9. another point about placing the thumb on top of the safety that i didn't see covered here is that it not only provides a comfortable rest for the thumb but it also keeps the safety in the fire position while shooting. IF the thumb is resting UNDER the safety, you run the risk of accidentally bumping the safety on while shooting.
  10. nipplehead, your best bet is the CR Speed holster... very adjustable and comfortable. Don't use the cup for the muzzle but get a nipple type platform.
  11. jkushner1, I've been using WST in 40 cal. Para's (one with a factory bbl and the other with a Schuemann bbl) with lead 175gr and 200gr bullets and I recently used it with Master Blaster 180gr. all loaded to 1.148 OAL. With the 175 & 180's I've been running around a 4.7 which gives me around a 167-168 PF depending on the gun. For the 200gr., which gives a little softer felt recoil, I've benn running around a 4.1gr of WST. These loads work for me but YMMV, so work up your loads carefully.
  12. dramsey, I've used n340 and in my opinion that powder was to slow for .40, the n350 is even slower. I would try to trade or sell the n350 for something else.
  13. Randy, In my opinion, the question would be the 550 or the 650. If funds are an issue I would lean toward the 550. With the 550, you can still crank out a reasonable amount of ammo at a reasonable investment of the press. If you think you will be shooting a LOT of ammo, you could go with the basic 650 and add to it as funds will allow. I use a 550 and I am very happy with it. At the time, it fit my pocketbook and it fit my ammo needs just fine. Check with our host on the Dillon Presses. I'm sure he will guide you in the right direction....
  14. firewalker, I have used the S&A and the standard Dawson magwell on my P16-40 limited. I think the S&A might be a little thinner but I LIKE the Dawson MUCH better. Tyro PS. the S&A requires cutting the frame of the gun and the Dawson requires NO modification to the gun
  15. BE, I have not used Clays or N320 so I can't give any comparisons.... sorry hopalong, I started out with WSF, I've tried N340, Silhouette and 231 in .40 shooting Lead... IMHO, out of the powders listed above, WST is the best. It smokes less with lead and I think it is the cleanest (I've shot nearly 1000 rds before cleaning). Please let me know of your findings when you do your comparisons. All other forum members that have used WST, Hopefully some of you can help me out with a few questions.... I have only been using WST in .40 with LEAD 175gr. and 200gr. bullets and WSP primers with mixed brass. 1) Can anyone offer any comparisons between using WSP and WSR primers using WST with all other components remaining the same. 2) Can anyone provide any info on using WST with Jacketed bullets ? I'd like to know your basic recipe and you thoughts on its performance. A) I would like to know type of Bullet used and its weight. (MG, Zero etc.) Powder charge, (or your recommended starting charge) C) Type of primer used (primarily small pistol or small rifle) D) Chrono results if possible. Thanks, Tyro
