We got a local match coming up this Saturday and I am wondering how well the Nooks with the Practiscore program will perform in the cold. We are looking at starting the day in single digit temps and warming up to mid 20's. Does any have experience using the Nooks in cold weather? I have paper scoresheets ready to go as back-up. Thanks for the input.

That sucks that the first blood drawn for this year's match is that of the match director.

And they call my stage designs evil? We have to keep it real for those of us average folks who are not "pros" or otherwise "high speed dead-on" shooters. We've never liked a stage that has such a difficulty level that the average shooter can't make some of the shots or burns a whole lot of time making them, nor do we like how some of these shots are the maker or breaker of some shooters. All shots should be made doable by all shooters, it is how fast they make them and the manner they engage them that should make the difference. We try to design our stages to be with options and some different little challenges mixed in, but more importantly with the average shooters in mind. And if it means the lack of challenge for some folks, so be it. Hopefully those folks find the other things mixed in the stage to be challenging.

I've always wanted to see a pump shotgun tricked out like an open gun. I can't think of anyone better to take that on.

Thanks for stepping up to receive the certificate. The presentation was really not part of match, but since the TFD guys asked, and since you and the other JRK Match Admin Team were present, and since we were at the same range and in the same company of a lot of those that attended the JRK match, we thought it would make for a nice opportunity to recognize all involved. I agree with you that they should be more challenging. We so much wanted them to be. We found that on top of the limited types of targets we had available and what type of ammo they can take, we also had to take into consideration what targets would fall if hit with buck shot as oppose to bird shot with a tighter choke, what calibration standard would we use if we set targets to fall only with heavier loads, and what targets would survive if inadvertently shot with with buck or slugs on the same stage. The biggest factor we had of course was that the slugs and buck shots could only be used in the competition bays. We had to make do with the limited space those bays had to offer. So we thought that it would be best to mix them up in stages with other challenges to go with just those shots. Sorry that you found them to be "chip shots".

Scores will be posted on Practiscore once the match is over. Individual scores up to date (without the totals) will be posted at the clubhouse.

Shooting in order (Squad 1 begins in Stage 1 and finishes at Stage 12; Squad 2 begins as Stage 2 and finishes at Stage 1; etc.)

People that requested one another got priority. Secondary requests may be sent to jomar.mn3gg@gmail.com, but because of the size of the squads and the need to keep them as even as possible, we cannot guarantee it will be honored.

Yes. The point value of the stage is not the problem, it is the distribution of the points. No matter the point value of the stage, the shooter with the most hits should get 100% and the shooter with half of the winner's total hits should get 50%. But that is counting per target hit value and not time value as Practiscore is designed to do.

Thanks for all the imput so far. I forgot to mention that the point of the stage is to have more targets available than a shooter can feasably engage within the fixed time. Its a speed stage where different strategies of when, where, and what to engage in conjuction with each individual skills will make the difference. We don't want anyone to flat out clean it under the par time. The shooter with the most hits get 100% of the point value of the stage. If that winner hit say 30 targets and another shooter hits only 15 targets, then the shooter shot 50% of the winner and gets 50% of the value of the stage. I played around with both the same time plus bonus for every target hit and the same time plus penalties for every target not hit. But what I immediately notice is that if I have the winner hitting 30 targets and the other shooter hitting 15 targets, it will not calculate the score of the other shooter as 50%. The system is programmed to calculate time value and not per target point value. I love the Practiscore system. It makes scoring so much simpler and faster. It saves me from hours of manually entering scores. It would be great if we could use the Practiscore for our big match and still have our "fixed" par time stage. But with me being the score keeper, I am very much partial to Practiscore. (hint hint Jay)

We recently obtained Nook tablets with the Practiscore app from one of our match sponsor. We've ran it through some mock matches before using it in two local matches. We have not had any issues and we absolutely love how much work it saves us. The only problem is that I can't figure out a way to score a par time stage using the Time Plus method in Practiscore. The stage gives the shooter 25 seconds to knock down as many targets as he can. The shooter that knocks down the most will get the 100% value of the stage and everyone below will get a percentage based from the winner. Has any one have a recommendation in scoring such a stage in the Time Plus method of scoring? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

That other match you are inquiring a about was the "Nordic Comp PRACTICAL Shotgun Championship" put on by Gateway in Sparta IL last year. I haven't heard if they will are going to put on another match this year. Best to contact Jeremy Maddox.

Brad said it right. This range offers us shooting bay, open areas, and natural terrain. This range is also managed by the Westbergs who loaned those pipe targets last year that everyone loved. The Westbergs are already in the process of making more.

Dammit Jay. I had a stage in the works with input from these guys. I even thought about naming it "Jesse's Nightmare" and putting sschults in as the RO.
