  1. we cant give it all away! where's your sense of adventure? It would help us with our "7 P's"...Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. But I guess its better for me to have some surprises. That way, I'll have somewhat of an excuse in hand.
  2. Of course I'm predictable to you. Who else pokes as much fun at you? (Well maybe the Crafty Buzzard can but he's not on this forum so I got to be the one.)
  3. I thought you were a bada$$ until you said this. Its a little tougher calling those 50-100 yarders on paper isn't it?
  4. From what I've seen in other big 3-gun matches, the majority of HM shooters are shooting an AR-10. A few shoots the M1A, and even fewer shoots the FAL or HK91. A few???? Sam Keen, Patrick Kelly, Michael Fordyce, Bryan Ray (who?). I hear Gort Mueller even shoots the M1A on the rare appearance he makes in HM. Did Craig A. shoot a M1A for his 1st place win at Benning last year? You're right, the AR308 platform probably is more popular. But the M1A is better! The few. The Proud. The M1A Shooters.

  6. I agree with CAZ. VFG's has a tactical purpose. I used one with when I was in SWAT having to make entry into tight (and often times occupied) spaces. The VFG gave me extra grip for weapon retention and for manipulating the gun around corners. It also allowed me to easily manipulate my weapon mounted light with a pressure switch attached to the VFG. When I started competiting, I used one but found it to be problematic when shooting over makesift roof obstacles or a large wooden wire spool. I eventually dropped it after realizing that weapon retention is not as important in competitions (unless of course you worry about the guys in your squad). I did start using one again after I switched to a POF rifle. With the piston system and wider hand guard, I was not able to get a good grip on the rifle. I have now switched to a JP Rifle and the JP hand guard is the best in the market. I recommend trying a VFG and see if it works for you. I would also agree with going with a stubby one like an Ergo Mini-Max http://www.ergogrips.net/item-detail.cfm?ID=4271-BK&storeid=1ℑ=ergominmaxvfg.gif&CFID=2461113&CFTOKEN=18290392
  7. I use the California Comp Works modified with the TekLok attachment. For a slimmer guy like me, the realty property on my belt is limited and I often have to take switch out equipment from stage to stage. The TekLok makes it a whole lot easier to get things on and off your belt without having to take your belt off.
  8. Personally, I would have preferred you didn't add the comp...but that's just beacuse I'm also shooting HM at Ozarks. Your setup looks great. I'll be using your posted photos to try convince my buddy to do the same with his M1A.
  9. Chris, I apologize but I just found this post. My chest rig is actually home made. I saw others who had them but I wanted something with a sturdier backplate. So I made my own using a light plastic board sewn inside a cloth with straps and velcro on the front side. I then used sticker velcro on my stripper clips. If you haven't picked one up yet, I can show you mine (or email you pictures) and maybe you can put one together for your self. The materials I used only cost me less than $30. 12. I use the Benny Hill Rolling Thunder in both my .223 and .308 ARs and am absolutely impressed with it. Glad to see that its in the lead in the poll.
  13. I've had a DPMS LR-308, and I ran it with both the PMags and the DPMS Mags. I particularly like the PMags much more for a few reasons. First being that I do competitions and the PMags are true 20-round magazines that I could load full and still seat easily in the rifle with the bolt closed. The DPMS Mags are officially 19-round magazines and you'd have to drop one or two rounds to do the same. Second, when doing competitions, I often re-load on the move and sometimes accidentally step on my own dropped mag. So far, the PMags I've stepped on held up, but I've had two DPMS mags that was easily damaged and unusable. A slight dent on the lip of a metal mag could make it unreliable. And lastly, PMags at $20 each are by far cheaper than DPMS mags. I now run with only PMags.
  14. Not wanting my friend JJ to be alone, I use a globe sight with the Lee Shaver's inserts, but I prefer the one on the bottom row second to left. It's nice and slim.
  15. I had the same issue. If you're going with a Troy Industries sight, they have one "coming soon": http://store.troyind.com/Gas_Block_Front_BattleSight_p/ssig-gbf-00bt-00.htm I wanted the Troy sights so I bought a riser to go between the sight and the gas block. Only one I know of that that makes it is Yankee Hill: http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/product491.html Good Luck.
  16. The match rules states, "11.4 Each division must have at least 10 (ten) competitors." I'm planning on shooting in the Heavy Metal Division so I'm wondering if there is 10 competitors in that division yet. If not, does the Tactical Irons Divison have 10 competitors yet?
  17. Okay. I finally squeezed my wallet and got enough to buy a JP LRP-07. I am totally impressed with it. From the moment I picked it up, I could immediately tell the quality and craftsmanship put in to building the rifle. I was as impressed when I started shooting it. The adjustable gas block paired with the low-mass bolt assembly and low-mass buffer made it a very sweet rifle to shoot. I know what the rifle is capable of, now if I could only match it with some skill. It was pricey, but worth every single penny. The only problem I have with it is trying to keep it hidden from my wife.
  18. It would help if Steve could update the website and the USPSA Match Squadding. A lot of the Minnesota Production Shooters are watching those to help them decide. I will pass on the word that the match is still on, but you know that people will want to see things with their own eyes by checking the website.
  19. My personal opinion as a competitive shooter and former SWAT Operator, EOtechs and Aimpoints are really meant only for close combat where you have to be very aware of your surroudings and be able to aim your gun in a split second. It's easier to that with a red dot than trying to line up your front and rear sights. But for competition, iron sights are the way to go. It would be great to see the final results for this match having a little notation on who used 1x optics and who did not. I'm betting on an iron sight shooter. Schmitty: Dude, the quote "silver pimp grips" gotta go. You're embarrasing me.
  20. Just wondering if there are any new updates on the U.S. Production Challenge. There has not been any updates posted on the website since June 25th. And the Self Service Match Squadding on the USPSA website has not changed, and still only has 16 competitors listed. There are a few Minnesota shooters interested in going, but are apprehensive about registering at the time being. They are waiting for more information. With the September 1st deadline to request a refund without penalty, it would be nice to get some updates to help me decide whether to stay in or not.

  22. I would love to be able to join you guys, but unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. Too much logistics and expenses, and schedule conflict to be able to make it. Best of luck to you all. Jomar
