I clean my barrel by shooting bullets through it. Seriously, in 2000ish rounds through my glock 34 barrel it has never had anything down it but bullets, and it's plenty clean. I shoot jacketed.

I don't like filing down the front sights on my guns. They never end up being perfectly flat on top, and it drives me nuts. (I am aware that this is because I am doing it wrong) I'll go with the Tripp if the Bomar is not to my liking.

I picked up a 1/4" socket head 4-40 screw from ace hardware, and after grinding it down a bit, it looks like it will work. Squirted some blue loctite in there any hopefully it will hold. I should be good for a while.

Thanks Norbert. You are my hero. I'll get that envelope out to you today.
-
Cool, thanks Norbert. I don't think I'm gonna be at a match until maybe the next Richmond one. I'll see you there hopefully? In the meantime I'll try to find something to stop it from falling out.

I don't have any spares. I'll see if I can find some replacements online for a reasonable price.

As the thread title says, the little screw on the right side of the front of the plastic grip is missing. I noticed it after coming back from the range yesterday. Will this pose a problem? I assume it helps to hold the grip on the gun? Everything still feels really solid.

I get a little bit of smoke but I wouldn't call it a lot. Less smoke than you would get from loading a FMJ instead. It's not bad at all. Are you getting alot of smoke with this load?

Chronoed today at 175 powerfactor: 180grn Bayou Bullets at 1.18". 4.6 grains of titegroup. CCI Small rifle magnum primers.

Alrighty, so with the bomar cranked all the way down, the sevigny front hits 3-4" LOW at 25 yards. That means it's likely no good with the Harrison rear. I'm gonna run a few matches with the dawson .09" front sight in the bomar rear, and if I don't like it, I'll see if Tripp can cut the rear notch to .15" by .12" It's not clear from the pictures that the notch could be cut that deep.
-
I did! Sight blacked it at the match and sharpied it when I got home. It's still way too wide though.
-
I did consider opening up the Bomar. My dad actually has a mill that I could use as well, but I can't really cut the notch any deeper, which will result in a rather shallow sight picture, not the "hotdog in a hallway" (well put) I am looking for. I should probably ask Tripp how deep he can cut the notch on his rear sight as well. I'll email and ask! I'll run the Bomar rear for a little bit longer probably, with a .09" flat black dawson front sight. Sorry Carlos, but the fiber is not for me. Didn't take long to figure that one out.

Your arm position looks a little strange. You left arm is quite low, and your right arm a bit higher. This is sort of the opposite of what is usually recommended. I would try changing up your grip and stance a little up, and see how it works for you. Try rotating your elbows more outwards than down. I bet it will help.

I have sevigny sights on my Glocks and I love that sight picture. When I got my SVI limited gun, it came with a .125" fiber optic front sight in a standard Bomar rear. I didn't like it so much, but figured I'd give it a try. I tried it for one match and what do you know, I hated it. So now I am trying to replicate the same sight picture I know and love, which is a .115" serrated ramp front sight in a .15" rear notch. I have a Bomar rear cut and a Novak front cut. I picked up the 1911 sevigny front, which is .175" in height. I want to match it with this rear sight, cut to .15" width. Does anyone have any feeling as to whether that will work or not? .175" seems a bit short... I have a round-top slide, and the owner of Harrison custom indicated that a .175" might be in the right ballpark. Does anyone have this rear sight, or the sevigny rear? I am going to try seeing where my gun hits tomorrow with the sevigny front sight and my Bomar adjusted all the way down, which should be approximately the same...

Props for trying something out of the box. Let us know how it works out!

Get more extensions! They are not going to be important for the classifier, but having at least 4 20 round magazines (you should be definitely be able to squeeze 20 in there) is pretty essential for a limited shooter. A magwell is cool but not really needed. You will usually be doing at most one reload per stage anyway.

What did you not like about it? It seems alright to me. Better than the ghost hanger for sure.

It's some old rounds I have about 800 of from back in the day. 180 zero fmjs (i think) loaded to 1.135" with titegroup at about 930 fps. Once I go through those I'll make a new load just for this gun.

After a few days of dryfire: the skin is coming off my fingers, the web of my hand is getting tenderized by the beavertail of my new gun to the point I can barely hold it, my palm is sliced open by hitting the hammer on a botched surrender draw, and my safeties have lost a lot of weight. I feel like I'm finally beginning to get the hang of this thing! It will be interesting to see how I do in my first match. If I do better than I did with my Glock limited gun that'd be really cool, but doesn't seem likely somehow.
-
Now there's an idea! I might try that.

Is there any way to adjust the ghost holster to NOT have it jab painfully into your hip? I am mystified. I set up a CR Speed holster for my Glock limited gun, but setting up the ghost for my SVI is proving very difficult. The first thing I did is take off that round thing, because all it did was stab into my hip and push the top of the gun inwards (pointing the muzzle outwards). That helped a bit, but not enough. It still wants to dig into my hip and point the muzzle of the gun outwards, the opposite of how I want it to be. Any tips on adjusting it? Am I just missing something here? (Using CR Speed double belt). I would just use the DOH I got at the same time, but it doesn't fit my gun. ETA: I managed to get it to a point where it's usable, if not ideal.

While we are at it, can you guys have a quick look at these pictures? Is this normal, or would this be considered frame battering? The recoil spring in this gun feels pretty light. Just wondering if I should switch it out before I shoot it.

I deepened the dent in the safety, and removed more metal. It's hardly a flipper anymore. Getting pretty small! However, it's just about impossible to get my weakhand to push up the safety anymore. The problems should be fixed now. I did all the safety checks and they seem fine. Hopefully everything will be ok, and I didn't damage the sear enough to make it malfunction. I guess I'll find out during live fire tomorrow.
-
I hope not. As far as the detent, that could be improved, but it won't fix this problem per se. I could still push the safety up a bit. Isn't this what would usually happen when you drop the hammer with the safety up a bit? I haven't done it too many times. Hopefully nothing is too badly damaged yet. I'll remove more metal from that safety to make sure it cannot happen.
