  2. Dowter- My stats are from a book by Jonathan Niednagel. Benos turned me on to it a while back. I'd say it's probably more accurate than the findings of a couple of tests on a couple of websites. Plus, I've done some other research on INTP's. The stuff I've seen is pretty consistent in stating INTP's as 1-2% of the population. Tightloop-Yeah, I know it's a small sample. That's why I wondered what benos had to say. He's done a lot of research into personality types. He's also spent a ton of time observing shooters, especially GMs. I was hoping he'd weigh in on this. I'd trust his observations far more than the stats collected from this thread.
  3. INTP SG-No, your type doesn't change. But, the tests aren't always accurate. Read the descriptions under Duanes earlier reply. That should help sort things out. I find one thing real interesting in everyone's types. There sure are a lot of INTP's and INTJ's here. Supposedly, INTP's make up 1-2% of the population while INTJ's make up 2%. That's less than 4%. But, they're close to 50% here. I wonder if that's representative of the general competition shooting population. Or, is it just that we tend to be knowledge seekers and migrate to places like BE's forums. BE-You've done a lot of research into this. What are the types of some of the top shooters?
  4. Does Brownells ship to Thailand? If so, they carry most of the Kuhnhausen books. http://www.brownells.com Otherwise, it looks like the publisher has a website. http://www.gunbooks.com
  5. 3QT & SG - Good posts! Dave-Anything you mentioned can make a good stage or a bad stage. First, I think you need to look at the match as a whole rather than an individual stage. The best matches have a mixture of elements in different stages. Some short courses, some medium courses & some long courses. Like SG said, don't get hung up on the same element for every stage. No, every stage does not need low ports. But, an occasional one is OK. I'll disagree with 3QT on high round count. Some of the best stages I've shot have been 16-20 round COF's. But, I wouldn't want a whole match of 16 round COF's. Round count isn't what makes a stage good. High round count stages can be great fun. So can 8 round speed shoots with a disappearing target in them. Variety is the spice of life. For a field course, the best stages have a mixture of elements. Some tight or long shots and some easy targets. Some steel, some paper. An occasional no-shoot, hardcover or moving target. Variety is the spice of life. Targets that can be taken from more than one position or on the move are good too. It gives people options on how they want to shoot the stage. The best field courses are the ones that have half a dozen or more ways to shoot them. Let me figure out how I want to shoot the COF. Did I mention, variety is the spice of life?
  6. Travis, I think Flex & I are saying similar things. The rules aren't the problem, the COF is the problem. I understand your rant. You have a problem with extreme gaming. Unfortunately, I have a problem with bad COF's and people who refuse to read (& understand) the rules. I guess this one struck home with me because I shot a similarly bad COF a week ago. It was designed by someone who's been shooting USPSA matches for about 5 years. Everytime he designs COF's there are problems with them. Why? Because he won't take the time to read & understand the rules. So, I guess I just have a different rant.
  7. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's used sparingly. They can be a little humbling to new shooters, so I wouldn't do it at every club match. I also don't see anything wrong with placing two shoot poppers behind a no-shoot popper. (See classifier CM99-60 for an example.) It's good to have challenges.
  8. Travis, If it's cheating, what rule did they break? If they actually swept across the targets, they didn't break any rules. Thus, they weren't cheating. If they just did a Bill Drill into the berm, then they should have been assessed penalties as Uncle Bill mentioned. They still wouldn't have been cheating. They would have merely been stupid. The RO, should have penalized them & this discussion would be pointless... Of course, it probably already is.
  9. I agree, it's bad course design. As Rich pointed out, it's an illegal COF per USPSA rules. More importantly, if you're going to have strong/weak hand with multiple engagements of the same target, it should probably be Virginia Count. It is definitely NOT cheating. I hate it when people try to blame the shooter for figuring a way around poor course design. You're right it's about shooting, but it is a game. If I play the "game" better than you, so be it. But, if I follow the rules of the game, don't tell me I "cheated" and don't call me a jackass. I am merely more educated than the course designer. Is it my fault I understand the rules and the course designer didn't? No, it's the course designer. If I can read the rulebook, they can too. I agree with Ron about letting the course designer know about flaws. But, I've had cases where the match director chose to go with it anyway. I think everyone should go to the level 1 RO class. It really helps you understand the rules. Having said all that, I would have shot it as intended and only picked up any misses. It's just too slow to do it any other way.
  10. George, Have you tried here? http://www.buffertech.com/
  11. Wow! I didn't have any problems with Am West this weekend. But, I didn't fly home out of PHX until yesterday morning. Wonder if it just happened to people that left on Sunday?
  12. Jon, Why would TGO shoot Open? Just because TJ is shooting Limited? TGO just eclipsed TJ's "Triple Crown" with a "Quadruple Crown". (Factory Nats win, Race Nats win, World Champion and IDPA Nationals all in one year.) Iron sights seem to be working well for him this year. Don't you think he'd stick with a winning combination?
  13. The biggest trick (besides hitting the activator on the first attempt) is determining how many shots "you" can take between shooting the activator & activatee. You have to take into account what your current abilities are & how difficult the shots are. I remember watching Michael Voigt shoot a stage at Area 3 a couple years ago. He shot the activator popper, another popper, 2 shots each on 2 static targets and was still waiting for the disappearing target to fully appear. That really taught me how much time there is available while waiting for a target to appear. Another stage had 5 disappearing targets from 3 different positions. At each position, he shot the activators first, all the statics then the DT's and was complaining afterwards that he had to wait for all the DT's. Almost anyone can "usually" shoot at least one target while waiting for a target to appear.
  14. OK, I see they've posted distances now. 50, 25, 15 & 5 yds. Hey, I guessed right. Now, if I can only shoot them as well as I can guess their distances... I agree. The 1st 2 strings are most important due to their difficulty.
  15. No, it wasn't shot at the FGN's. The standards there were fixed-time with partial targets at 25 - 10 yds. (I think they were originally supposed to be 30 - 15yds.) I haven't seen distances for the RGN's posted anywhere. I would have guessed 50, 25, 15 & 5. But, I really don't know. I think the longest strong/weak classifier is Merle's standards with strong hand at 20yds & weak hand at 15yds.
  16. SG - I think the Open HHF is around 9.5.
  17. I don't think minor scoring has as big an effect at the upper level (M,GM) as it does on the lower level shooters (B,C,D). The top shooters are shooting mostly A's. I looked over that stats for the FGN's. TGO & Jerry shot about 96% of the possible points. If you assume they shot only A's & C's, that figures out to be 80% A's. Todd & Sevigny shot about 92% possible points. Amazingly, that figures out to be 80% A's too. I thought that was kinda interesting.
  18. OK, I'm not Michael Voigt nor have I had any instruction from him. But, I think the theory is to "pull" the gun when shooting one-handed, rather than pushing it. This would mean starting on the weak side when shooting strong hand only and starting on the strong side when shooting weak hand only. I think you tend to tense your forearm more when "pushing". The pull is more relaxed. Maybe that's his reasoning.
  19. Jarrett and Barnhart seemed to be exploding from position to position. Maybe they just know how to move better? I had the pleasure of training with BE this spring. This topic came up. I was describing watching a master class friend who explodes from positions. There's no hesitation. As soon as the shot breaks, he's gone. So, as a C class shooter, I had the obvious question, "How can he do that?". BE's answer was so simple, "He calls his shots". Of course, my reaction was "Huh?". So, Brian explained, when you can call your shots with absolute precision, there is no hesitation. It's taken me a while to realize how many things depend on good shot calling ability. Movement is one of them.
  20. L10 ought to be real interesting. Although Jerry & Rob would be the favorites, I'd say Voigt, Travis & Phil all have a good chance for an upset. Like Erik said, sooner or later, somebody else is gonna win. Todd will win production and Jerry M. will win revolver, both by large margins.
  21. I agree. Last year's scores are not indicative of what will happen with L10 & Production. I think the L10 scores will be very similar to last year's Limited scores. I do think the high production score will be about 10 points lower than the high L10 score. That's simply because each C is -2 pts. If you think about it, Phil would have only shot 104pts (vs. 112) if he was shooting minor. I really don't think the GM's will shoot many more A's because they're shooting minor. After all, it is a 5 second standards. Anybody know if Todd is shooting Production or L10? I noticed he shot Production at the Summer Blast & the Mid-Atlantic Sectional.
  22. Miculek shot 105 pts on last years 5 sec standards. There were 2 strings with mandatory reloads. My guesses: L10 - 108 - 116 pts Rev - 100 - 110 pts Prod - 95-105 pts Just don't ask how many pts I'll get. Let's just say it will be painful.
  23. Next they’ll be using classifier stages at the Nationals They already are... Stage 10 is CM99-11 "El Presidente". I was kind of disappointed to see a classifier in there.
  24. Pat, Glad to hear you're doing so well with the Sentra. I had one of the original SE-R's. It was definitely a fun car. I finally got rid of it this year and got a WRX. Now that's a really fun car.
  25. I'm not sure when the old forum started. But, it was up and running before the 2000 Area 2. I know because BE was promoting it there. That was in November 2000. I'd discovered it a couple weeks before that. So, it was running in October 2000.
