  1. CO Steve mentioned that to make a 20 second swap of primer assemblies on the 550b you need to purchase the assembly from Dillon. Is part number 14282 Primer Slide Assembly, Small the only item that you would need to order or would I need additional items like 14015 Primer track bearing, etc?

    Thanks

  3. Let us know how the size & feel comparison turns out.

I have been thinking about acquiring a gun with a carbon steel grip someday. I don't like the feel of the regular size plastic grips. I haven't had a chance to hold too many that have been thinned like yours.

If you get the grip & you happen to make it to Lefthanders in Loami or Springfield on a Thursday please bring it along.

  4. Welcome to the forum from another IL shooter!

IIRC there aren't too many IPSC clubs near Champaign.

You can shoot most weekends if you don't mind driving a bit for local matches (central IL side.) There may be something closer on the Indiana side. There are a couple of shooters that may have just moved from Champaign that can probably tell you more about those.

    PM me if you want.

  5. 2010 Illinois Sectional will be Aug. 21-22,2010 at Chillicothe Sportsmen's Club.

There is an entry form on the clubs web site Chillicothe Sportsman's Club click on Activities on the left side of the page. Then click on USPSA Action Pistol in the center area and you will find a link to the entry form.

There will be 12 stages and over 200 rds. minimum. $55 to shoot and juniors for $30.

  7. It is great that you are being so cool about it all Mr. Seeklander.

I also appreciate the tone of this forum in regards to the show, the episode & the participants.

I was thinking about how benos is different than other forums where the posters do not seem so fair minded. You might be shooting against some of the people who are participants. In some sort of theoretical way, you would have to put your money where your mouth was here.

I am gratefull that it is coming off as well as it has & am hopefull for the future shows.

Here's to hoping the USPSA shooters tear it up.

  8. Look here

That just tells you how much powder each disk should put out.

I would recommend some reloading manuals for development of your load if you have not loaded before.

The Lee Modern Reloading Manual 2nd Ed. is fairly cheap & widely available. Multiple manuals are better than one.

I am fairly new to reloading myself. I am just passing on some of the good advice wise & kind folks shared with me.

A better scale would help as well. It would seem impossible to get a good reading with a scale that only reads full grains.

  9. Dexter is definitely a case where the screen beats the page.

I thought that Forrest Gump was much better on the screen. The book seemed like a mess to me.

A few books that just read so well for me that they could never be matched on the screen (even though some had some decent tries) were Catch 22, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest & Dune.

Although Battlefield Earth isn't Shakespeare it was a pleasure to read when I was growing up.

  10. Revisiting this idea of "fast" Solo 1000 vs "slow" Solo 1000...

Went out today to verify my current load (detailed above in post #37) in anticipation of Area 5 in a few weeks. The testing I did back in March, and testing I did today and what I will be loading for the match all came from a can of Solo 1000 that was purchased a little over a year ago. The load made 133.3PF in March, and made 133.1PF today, so far so good.

That original can is near empty, so I decided to break open the "new" can of Solo 1000 I bought from Natchez about a month ago and run it over the chrono while I had it out. Same load spec, only variable being the "lot" of powder, made only 121PF. The heaviest charge I worked up for testing was 3.6gr, and that made only 124PF!. I don't have the per-shot data in front of me, but had roughly a ~%10 velocity decrease for the same load between the two cans.

Your post makes me feel better. I don't know if I will be able to chrono in 90+ degree heat before Area 5 (as it will probably be.) The last chrono's were in see-your-breath & 50 degree weather. I was well over so I should be fine, but you never know.

  11. Hardest thing for me was waiting for a class to come near enough.

I just took the class & became an RO.

There is nothing special about the test. It just takes some time.

I can't remember what I got on this computer to look for, much less every rule word for word.

I carry the rule book in the range bag for those "senior moments".

  12. Video would be great. I think the sugar and tires would be a bit much.

We have some senior people who are pretty good at counting shots. I am not so great at this.

With new shooters they will usually either discretely let them know that they need to download their mags or mention it to me or other club staff.

With experienced shooters it is usually open season for letting everyone know what they did.
