  1. I hope to see you at PASA. I usually have to work 3rd Sundays, but I hope I get lucky & get to go a few times this year.

The Kimber is shooting better than I can make it run. A weird thing happened with it last week. I was shooting a stage & the rear sight broke off just behind the height adjustment screw & conked me on the schnozz. I'll get it replaced. I was just glad it wasn't a blowup.

  2. Good match Bruce. I was watching your squad on stage 2 after I finished. Your run looked smooth (except for the mike.)

I should have said howdy. (You sold me a Kimber a while back.)

  3. In a Para Ordnance I am using 5.3gr of Solo 1000 with MG 180CMJ at 1.18OAL.

If you wanted to try it I would start much lower than 5.3 as that seems to be at the top of what is needed for 40S&W power factor.

I like Solo 1000. It is cheaper than VV. The gun isn't burning up after shooting a long stage & there isn't much residue. It does seem a little more difficult to meter.

  4. I can't wait for the baby lula to come out.

It is a bit uncomfortable when I get to the last round when loading against my own knee, but not unbearably so. It's a heckova lot better than smashing my thumb when that last round slips past the lips of the mag when loading with fingers only.

  5. Is it OK to change divisions after you have paid, registered & squaded for a major match (level 2+)? (Before the match begins.)

I was thinking about shooters who are not yet fortunate enough to have backup guns in the same division.

I would think it would be likely that it is OK & has happened fairly often. I tried to search, but I am not submitting the right combination of terms.

If something broke & you knew you were not likely to get your gun back from the 'smith before the match, would it be considered better to contact the match director asap (or are they busy with other stuff & might it be better to wait until you are at the match to inform the officials that you are shooting another division?)

    Thanks!

  6. We had an interesting lock up a few weeks ago at a club match.

I was RO'ing a fast shooter when his 1911 locked up. He spent a couple of minutes trying to clear. Finally called stop. A couple of the more experienced guys took the pistol to the berm & spent the next several minutes trying to clear the jam.

The gun had to be cut to get it open.

It turns out that he had fired into a misfire that no one had heard. The bullet split the barrel & wedged everything neatly into place.

There were about 25 people watching that didn't hear a thing. Unfortunately there have been plenty of misfires there. Everyone is pretty enthusiastic about yelling stop when it happens.

    Indoor range with one bay.

How long do you keep at it if you don't know for sure?

  7. The club I shoot at used to always have three regular open shooters. I borrowed an older open gun, had a blast & bought it. A couple other guys have picked up open guns as well. We have each learned how finicky the open guns can be compared to our other guns.

Some of the more experienced open guys came back so now there are usually five to seven every week depending on who is down a gun. That's out of fifty to fifty-five shooters. I & others shoot multiple divisions.

Div 1st shoot (total shoots) out of 52 competitors.

    Lim 19 (37)

    Open 5 (10)

    Lim10 9 (17)

    Prod 6 (15)

    SS 12 (19)

    52 total shooters

    98 total shoots

  8. I thought the movie was easier to watch than the book was to read.

I think that the length of the movie removed some of the interminable grind that the book fostered.

I was expecting the movie to be devastatingly depressing based on my experience with the book. I was (relatively) pleasantly surprised.

Good performances in a movie that will not appeal to the masses.

  9. There seems to be a lot of people that need to be immediately available on a regular basis for the sake of their continued employement (as I am.) I don't envy the continuously on call guys at all.

    I wear Pro Ears gold.

The BlackBerry I have to carry and my own Nokia don't seem to cause any buzzing issues with the Pro Ears. I put the phones up to the muff microphone to communicate.

I have had the earmuffs buzz when other phones are receiving calls though.

Good luck finding something perfect (and let us know if you do!)

I am interested to hear from other Sordin users.
