  1. Excellent, thank you. Anyone else?
  2. Love the new word "whoreder"! That is one for this year, is it not?
  3. Hi all, I am finishing up loading 3.1 gr. W-231 with 148 gr. double ended wadcutters. I am just target shooting with my concealed carry S&W M&P 340 357, & Ruger Security Six 357 with a 6" barrel. I want to try out the WST powder that I just bought, and will be ordering some different bullets. What are your recommendations for bullet weight & shape, as well as your favorite WST load? Thanks in advance.
  4. What is your favorite recipe for the .38?
  5. Thank you all! Picked up some more W-231, 500 small pistol primers, & a bottle of WST today, looking for some Solo 1000. Can't find it in any local stores so far.
  6. I bought a Dillon 550. I love it! I am not real fast at it, maybe a little anal in the long run. Meters W-231 powder very consistent. I only load 100 rounds or so at a time. Good stress reliever in the evening. I enjoy it and learning about reloading just about as much as shooting. It might have to do with the fact that I am saving money when I reload, but spending money when I shoot. HA. Can't take it with you, money, ammo, or the press. Better wear it out down here!
  7. I've got my 550 mounted to an oak coffee table top that I have tightened down inthe vise top of a Black & Decker Workmate 400. (Got it at a yard sale!) Easy to move over to my desk chair when re-loading.
  8. Ha, great side benefit these days with all of the shortages! Thank you very much. Do you mind sharing your load info for 9/40/45? Thanks
  9. Who males Solo 1000? I don't see it in the Lyman or Hodgdon manuals.
  10. Thank you Bill for the time it took to type all of that! Great knowledge & wisdom.
  11. Hi all, I am almost out of W-231 and need to get some more powder. I like the way the 231 meters in my Dillon 550B. I am using 148 gr DEWC lead bullets and have 500 bullets left to use up. I will be trying 158 gr round nose lead bullets for my 357 revolvers next. We have the dies to start 9mm as soon as my dad gets his pistol, and a friend is going to be buying dies for 45acp for us to load for his Glock. Which powder should I try next? The guy I get the bullets from recommended 700x, I have heard that WST doesn't smoke as much as other powders with lead. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
  12. You will love the 550. The 231 meters very consistently. Rather smoky with lead, but no smoke with plated bullets.
  13. Hmmm, I agree. They need more info. Can't tell what they are hoping you will order when you use their ordering information. HA Hope it doesn't cause some to be careless with ammunition.
  14. Does anyone know if WST is any less smoky than 231 with lead wadcutters?
  15. I just looked at a box of ammo to see if they list a storage temperature, but I didn't see it. My bottle of Winchester 231 powder says to store it in a cool dry place. I would move it somewhere safe, but cooler than an attic. My attic probably gets over 120 degrees, but this is North Carolina. Good luck!
  16. I am waiting for delivery of 38 special lead 148 gr. double ended wadcutters from S&S Castings. I can only find the hollow base wadcutters in my manuals. Is the overall length the same for both?
  17. Thank you, I found that web site. THey only list for the hollow base wadcutter which takes a different charge. Here is what they recommend: 148 GR. HDY LHBWC Winchester 231 .358" 1.160" min: 3.5 869 14,200 CUP max: 4.0 956 15,900 CUP
  18. Hi all, just ordered 148 gr double ended wadcutters from S&S Castings. He said most are using 3.1 grains of 231 for target loads. My Lyman manual doesn't list a 148 grain for 38 special. The Hodgdon 2008 basic reloaders manual shows it to be 4.0 gr for 148 gr hollow base wadcutters. Does the 3.1 sound right? What is your experience?
  19. Just ordered 1000 148 dewc. Jim said to use between 2.8 gr and 3.2 gr of 231 powder. I forgot to ask him what the OAL should be. Or do I just crimp them in the groove between the blue lube, and the bevel end? Also, how much do I crimp them? I am using the Dillon RL 550 B with their dies.
  20. Thank you Bshooter, I will let him know that you are spreading the word for him. Yes, I do need to place the order before I run out of the bullets that I have now. I am now thinking about trying 1000 of the 148 grain double ended wadcutters. Have heard that they are some of the most accurate, and a little less expensive.
  21. I am just about out of Ranier 125 gr fp bullets. Have enjoyed them in my M&P 340 J-frame. Found 4.9 gr of 231 to be the most accurate load. I am thinking of ordering some 158 grain round nose flat points from S&S Castings. Anyone have experience with these? How is their quality? I am using a Dillon RL 550 B. I will be shooting them in the M&P & a Ruger Security Six for target shooting. Thanks in advance.
  22. I gave it that name...I think DP refers to it as converting a super 1050 to an automatic reloader: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDeta...097B-1226963113 Good night! What do you do? Fill it with components, turn it on, leave for work, come home & shoot all night?
  23. I've seen this 10 drop checking mentioned twice now. How do you do it? Drop powder into 10 casings in a row and dump the powder from each one on the scale together, weigh the whole pile, and divide by ten?
