  1. Awww, thanks, Rich! I'm going to post my webcast communication/updates/info in this thread --> http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79903 so please check there for further webcast posts. Also, sorry for the ads on the webcast... that's a new UStream thing... but, hey, it's free! The match is shaping up great! Derek, Mike and everyone involved have really put in the effort and it shows! Additionally, there are some improvements to the range and it's impressive. Good luck everyone! Stop by and say "HI!"
  2. I'm going to webcast some of the shooters practicing today... good time for me to practice the webcast too!
  3. Sharyn

    7 more weeks!

How exciting! I'm jealous! I hope you have a great time and share some pictures if possible!
  4. Live webcast site: http://snsproductions.net/webcast/ussteelshoot.html I'm still working on the site... energy and mental clarity permitting...
  5. Surgery went well yesterday... I was pretty nervous being in the hospital that I work in (and knowing what goes on behind the scenes)... but the Anesthesiologist gave me some "liquid confidence" and I don't remember anything after that. (Versed is a godsend!) So, post op day 1 and so far so good. Starting to swell and becoming more painful but that's what the good drugs are for. Smitty is taking really good care of me.
  6. ok, yeah... I need to post the whole article as I see where the conversation is heading... sorry, mods! brb with article Here's the entire article for you to read (you should, it's pretty good!) They actually have it on their website, which is REALLY nice btw. Type in pg 46 on the bottom (article starts on pg 46) or just e-flip through the pages. http://fmgpublications.ipaperus.com/FMGPub...icanCop/ACMA09/
  7. Hate to say, but they bust on IDPA too. And, this isn't an 'Us vs. Them' topic... please don't get it closed with that mindset. I should scan and post the entire article. It's actually pretty good and supportive of competitive shooting. Just that picture of Athena (with funny caption) in a Cop magazine was totally unexpected.
  8. That was either at the Double Tap match... or the sliding on my knees was intentional... I don't wonder why I'm having surgery. Thanks for the kind words!
  9. I'd rather have Athena respond to my 911 call than 98% of the guys featured on bad boys, bad boys whatcha gonna do?... Cops. edited to add: although I've done some Photoshop enhancements in the past... this one is an untouched original currently published in American Cop magazine.
  10. Thanks, Mark! Siggy, just arthroscopic... lateral meniscus and ligament repair, patellar alignment, and I can't remember what else.
  11. I hear you're shooting the match...? I'd like to do a Media Super Squad webcast...
  12. I haven't shot since WSXV in Bali... Going in for knee surgery on March 19th. I'll be at the US Steel Nationals March 26-29th with cameras and laptop in hand (or backpack) but on crutches (anyone have a spare golf cart?) I need some encouragement and motivation. Last season was disasterous for me and the knee injury just put me over the edge. If you're in the Tampa area... please stop by and say HI, bring gifts (perishable and non-perishable) and I love chocolate. Those weeks of recovery are going to suck without you. In the weeks of recovery following surgery, I plan on ciphering through pictures and video from Indonesia (which I promised long ago!), finishing and updating my new website, and studying for some advanced nursing certifications (medication/mental state allowing). So, look forward to (or not) more posts from me in the near future!
  13. That's from last year (2008) and Shannon was too busy getting ready for World Shoot. I had A LOT of fun helping with Monster Match '07 and hopefully we can coax Shannon into doing it again this year...

  15. Ohhh! And CONGRATS again, Rebecca, for an outstanding performance at FL Open... And in Limited, Tammie B. aka NoEvil... GREAT SHOOTING!!!!!!
  16. You two, ROCKED!!! Great job on the upset and especially in those adverse conditions! "It's very disappointing that there were no pictures of the Open Ladies National Champion, Rebecca Jones. Not only was there no photo, she was hardly mentioned at all. I think she deserved more respect than that." (edit - quote from Megan aka 'Magic' but fully supported by myself) Unfortunately, we were not squadded together and the weather conditions really were not conducive to photography or I'd have supplied pictures. I've since purchased a pretty nice camera and an underwater housing. Maybe next time???... Again, congratulations on your successes!!! And while we're at it... BIG CONGRATS to Athena for KWA!!! (translation - "Kicking World Ass" for those who weren't there.) BTW, this is a YAY GIRL only thread.
  17. Under the new criteria, in addition to Smitty, would Blake Miguez have been "chosen" for the team? How about Bob Vogel? When are the selections going to be made? After the 2011 Nationals, 5 weeks prior to 2011 World Shoot? (that'll help the ammo situation... ) Why was the selection process changed? I think the '08 WS Team selection process was a success to build upon... not to dissolve and negate. How could a better team have been chosen? Would they have won more better?
  18. Thanks guys! I appreciate the compliments. Well... everything is "negotiable" in Bali... I'm not very good at bartering, but got the camera (w/CD of pictures) for $25/day. I felt the price was worth it. I happened to click on that song in my iTunes (Fleetwood Mac - Crystal) randomly. Thought it would go well with the slideshow. Thanks for the IDs. I keep searching the 'net for the names of things. I've found that I'm very interested in what everything is... didn't know that about myself. I've contacted my dive instructor to see if he knows about a course or resources for IDing marine life. There were a lot of cool things that didn't get captured on camera, like eel and this very quick blue "butterfly-like" fish, and a black and white spotty-spikey one (not Lionfish). We saw these too (not my photograph) : They were REALLY neat and weird. Anyone know what they are?
  19. IMHO, this, coupled with her desire, will take her as far as she wants to go. Not necessarily the material aspect of "support" but emotional support is a MUST for any form of success in life. Coming from someone who hasn't been involved in this sport very long, I agree 99% with the other women's responses. However, I do not agree with the "upper body strength and foot speed" mentality. I don't think the strength or speed needed for our sport is that dramatic between sexes. (I always envision an early teenaged KC Eusebio). The first time I met Julie Golob (Goloski) in person, I asked her why she felt there were no female GMs (we were eating dinner at Applebees in Georgia). She told me almost exactly what she eloquently posted here. I've never adopted the concept (but luv ya, Julie! ) Rebecca, there is no physiologic rationale that you must be weaker or slower than Todd. You have it in you. Testosterone providing that GM ability... maybe. Testoterone quite possibly has the effects on the brain that are necessary. This is why I've adopted the "mind set" theory. I think it's in the way our brains function that separates us. Many other posters have alluded to this aspect. Men simply think and respond differently than women. Currently, I am contemplating the belief that emotional support is very important for female shooters to succeed... whether it be from a father, father figure, boyfriend, husband, or even mother, friend that's a girl, etc. I'm curious if there have been any female shooters that have been successful without this support. I don't have the answer to the question, nor does anyone else. This is my opinion... just like the rest of the participants in this topic. And, on a side note... Athena, I hope no words here have diminished the wind in your sails. You performed OUTSTANDING at World Shoot and deserve nothing but respect and full credit. You've worked very hard to get where you are and I admire that. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! edited for grammar
  20. I wish I would have understood lighting better before going on these dives. I think I could have taken much more beautiful pictures. I finally figured out that the flash was necessary on our last dive. While taking the pictures, all I could see on the digital screen was red splotches. I thought I was ruining all my pictures and wondered if I should turn the flash off again... glad I left it on! I kinda feel like we were spoiled too early in our dive careers... like I should have had more experience and knowledge to fully appreciate the dive. Still, the dive was utterly amazing and wondrous. Glad y'all enjoy the pics too.
  21. After my devastating performance at Nationals and World Shoot... and failure of my webcast (even crashing a server in the process)... I've been feeling rather down in the dumps... Here's where I've found my solace. I hope you enjoy too. click here --> SCUBA Diving in Bali We dove at Padang Bai and Tulamben. I only have pictures of Tulamben. The first set is from the USS Liberty wreck and the second is from "Drop Off". I apologize for the audio as I've recorded the song off my computer... and don't feel up to searching for the CD to get a decent recording. Also, for all you photographers and SCUBA divers out there... I'm no photographer and I've just learned SCUBA diving. I have no formal photographic teaching and took these images with a rented camera. I'm a new diver... diving only my 4 required dives before the dives in Bali... so, it was difficult for me to concentrate on buoyancy as well as photography... let alone the challenges with an unknown camera and environment. If you happen to know the identity of the marine species in my pictures, I'd appreciate identification. (other than the blue spotted stingray) I hope you enjoy it and please refrain from critique or criticizing. Thank you. I'll get around to posting video and pictures from the World Shoot in the next few days.
  22. This was nearly my favorite minute spent in Bali... Click here ---> We Are The Champions!!! (wait for the end...) (I can't view it here... so hopefully the upload worked for you guys!) We'll be back home on the 6th, so hopefully I can post more pics/vids then.
  23. What an amazing turtle! Thanks for sharing that picture. We bought some cheap disposable underwater cameras but I hope to be able to rent a video camera while in Bali. I'd love to capture some once in a lifetime dive moments while there! We just got SCUBA certified (10/08/08) so we can dive while in Bali. I even put off knee surgery to get my certification dives in. I'm absolutely addicted... what an awesome experience!!! The serenity of the ocean is so relaxing...
