Load the .38 super rounds as long as they can be loaded while still fitting in the magazine. Since .38 super is a semi-rimmed case, sometimes the rims overlap in the mags. This is an old problem dating back to the 80's (some deny it exists). On another note, since the pistol is new, I wouldn't worry about any jam problems for the first 500 rounds or so. The gun needs to get broken in. Good luck.........

Flex may be on to something. OK, everyone and their brother makes a 1911 single stack clone. Since you don't want a "Manufacturer Specific" division (i.e. Glock only), how about a polymer frame, DA only division, which would allow Glocks, CZ's, EAA's, Springfield (ooopppsss! XD is single action), Rugers, etc. That way the new division would be based on exactly the same principles as the proposed single stack division. Gary, I applaud you for thinking outside of the box and would love to see a single stack only division, just be prepared for all of the requests for other new divisions. By the way, if the single stack division doesn't go over well, you are always invited to come over to IDPA and shoot in CDP division.

I just flat out don't buy that at all. Sorry. I refuse to believe in the equipment crutch. A good reload is a good reload. The problem, as I see it, is that we have a lot of shooters that just don't practice. They top out at a certain level. And, that is that. So, the reasons start coming out. Look at this forum...see where the questions come. ...what shoes do you wear? ...what holster is best? ...what powder...bullet weight...caliber...spring...sights... on and on and on and on... Many shooters spend their time stuck on those type of questions...looking externally for the next bit of improvement. Once you get to a certain level of functionality (gun works, hits where it is aimed), all that other "external" stuff likely adds up to about 5% or so of performance. Yet, sooo many spend the majority of their time buried in this 5%. I know how little the equipment matters. I know that it doesn't matter if I swing an Eastwing hammer or a Craftsman special...unless I hit the nail on the head...it is not going to get driven into the board. We need to steer the focus...the marketing...toward shooting. Solving the shooting problem is what we are about. Expanding the divisions does the exact opposite. It puts the focus on external factors...not internal problem solving. We grow internally. Flex: There is a MAJOR difference in reloading a single stack vs. a wide body. If you don't believe us, try it. I shot SVI's and STI's for years with bigmouth magwells. 1 to 1.25 second reloads were the norm. When I started shooting a single stack with a magwell (S&A), the reloads slowed down to 1.5 to 1.75 seconds. With the widebody guns, one can be a little off on the attack angle and still have the magwell compensate for the error. With a single stack the amount of forgiveness is reduced tremendously. I have shot a Glock exclusively now for two years and have to admit that the larger opening is considerably much easier to hit than a single stack. And yes, in a match that contains several speed shoots requiring reloads, it can make a difference in the final results.

Gary Stevens has perhaps taken USPSA to full circle with his introduction of a provisional single stack division. The idea where competitors who own single stacks can compete against other single stackers exclusively is a long overdue idea which could possibly generate new interest for those who love single stacks to bring them back out to the range and join in some match fun. With talk of the Limited 10 division going away in lieu of the assault weapon ban's demise, the single stack division is the logical alternative. Keep it up Gary........

The key word here is "Handling". You may go to the Safe Area with loaded mags on the belt and ammo in the range bag BUT while in the safe area, you may not touch any of it.

After years of honing and fine tuning 1911 trigger jobs, I finally found a true drop in trigger system. Go to Brownells.com and look at the Nowlin Drop In Sets, specifically the Pro Match. The catalog lists it at 3.5#s. but with a 17# mainspring mine measured out at 1.8# along with being super crisp. I've put these in 4 1911'1 (SVI, STI, and Springfield) over the last several years and had nothing but success.

Disabling a grip safety is illegal, not a "trigger enhancement". Disabling the grip safety via pinning, grinding off of the trigger stop tab, or by installing the Rescomp Beavertail/Mainspring housing, is in fact disabling one of the gun's safety features which is violation of the rulebook.

Yes, CDP is for .45ACP cartridges only, loaded to a PF floor of 165. The .45GAP (as well as the .45ACP) can be used in SSP and ESP divisions. The round can then be downloaded to a lessor power factor as those divisions have a PF floor of 125.

Venting sometimes does a man good......................anyway, your comments are very to the point ( a point many outside of IDPA do not understand ), preventing the sport from devolving/evolving into something other than a practical shooting sport for using everyday carry guns and equipment. I also applaud Bill for his clarifications letter on the IDPA website. Bill, while there may be a couple hundred IDPA members who don't like the new rules for whatever reason, the other 11,800 appreciate your efforts. My renewals are also on the way!

I've been using the Blade-Tech Kydex holster for years. It has a superb fit and allows for a very fast presentation. It's moderately priced ($45-$55). It's interesting to note that Bill Wilson doesn't manufacture or sell this particular holster and yet it's still legal for IDPA.

Factory configuration means factory configuration. For example, one could not put one of the aftermarket .357SIG barrels in a Glock 35 and be legal. The same applies to putting an aftermarket .40S&W barrel in a Glock 20. In doing so, the pistol becomes one of "non-factory" configuration. Remember, I am referring to IDPA rules. For USPSA and IPSC production, (I may be wrong) if you would check with John Amidon, I believe he would also consider it illegal. Drop him an e-mail.

I sure haven't looked into the new IDPA rules much... But, I thought I saw where the new wording mentioned that the holster "couldn't be adjusted while being worn"? I think that would allow the Roto-Fobus back in? No, the Roto-Fobus is still illegal. Quote from the new rulebook's holster section: "D. Must carry the firearm in a neutral (vertical) or muzzle rear cant, but have no adjustable cant backpieces."

The original intent of this topic and the other corresponding topic was to generate a logical list of issues/problems along with a consensus of "fixes" for the particular issues and then submit it to HQ for evaluation. It appears that several issues have been addressed and others are in the process of being addressed by HQ. At this point with said issues being addressed by HQ at this time (due to many members being in direct contact with HQ), there is no need to compile and finalize these issues in this topic. Glock did not manufacture a large frame pistol in .40S&W, only 10mm and .45acp. When the rulebook states "replacement of the barrel with one of factory configuration" for ESP division, factory configuration refers to cartridge type and barrel type (i.e. link vs. linkless, etc.).

Flex: If the factory configuration for a specific model # is for instance 10mm, one could not change out the barrel and shoot .40S&W at a match. At local matches it probably wouldn't be an issue with the SO's or MD's. However, at a major match the change would not be permitted.

For IDPA competition you may not change the barrel in the Glock 20 to .40S&W. The following is directly from the rulebook: From SSP rules: "6. A barrel of another caliber that is not offered in the original factory model." From ESP rules: "3. Internal accuracy work (includes: replacement of the barrel with one of factory configuration, the use of Accu-Rails, the use of Briley Bushings)." Hope this helps..............

Full length dust covers on pistol such as an STI Edge or Tactical, are NOT legal in ESP or CDP. Read the rules closely. They state "Pistols approved for SSP may also be used in ESP and CDP depending upon caliber, even if the pistol in question has a fulllength dust cover." The key wording here is "approved for SSP" indicating a DA pistol thereby disallowing 1911 single action pistols. This reference was put in place to answer questions in regards to why Glocks, Baby Eagles, etc. had full length dust covers yet were legal. The full length dust cover found on STI's, SVI's, Les Baers, etc. is a competiton only enhancement.

I believe the magazine carrier rule was put in place due to individuals inserting their mags barely into the holders to get a faster reload. I've called shooters for this before while So'ing. If one was going to carry mags all day concealed, it would be best if they were fully inserted into the carrier as not to drop or lose them. Practical is the key word in this situation.

Rob: There are no Area Directors or elections in IDPA. Again, it's not USPSA. I know your post is in jest but you need to focus on issues in your own organization and explain to the members (who by the way, did not have any opportunity to vote on the matter) the status of the following issues: Land Deal - Still no answers? Do we still own a flood plain with an evaluation of 10 times less than what HQ paid for it? TV Deal - Still no specifics or answers to member's questions?

It's constantly stated here that due to USPSA's elected officers, members have a say in the direction of the organization. If one has been a USPSA member over the last few years, that aspect comes into question with issues such as: a) Spending over well over $100,000 for a piece of land in Washington state located on a flood plain for the purpose of building a non-centralized HQ. This issue was never brought before the membership, we were told after the fact. It turns out that the persons responsible for the purchase never knew the location was on a flood plain. Unless it's been sold recently (and if so, a report should be given to the membership as to the losses incurred), USPSA is still stuck with it. In a "membership owned organization" or whatever term one wishes to use, the authorization for an expenditure that large should have prior membership approval. After many requests to HQ concerning the "TV deal" and how much was spent in securing it, we still do not know the details (i.e. the cost and the services that were to be provided). Just a couple of examples demonstrating that the "other" sport is a not so perfect utopia due to it's "elected" officals as it is stated here often. rant off.................. In regards to the new IDPA rule book, lets start a new topic where: We list specific rules and the issues person have with them in a logical fashion (i.e. Is the S&W 410 not legal in SSR division now due to the rule outlawing moonclip usage? Then state a logical reason why it should be legal. Once the issues are posted, then let's start a new topic to address the issues gathered in the above topic and to determine the logical answer to each of the issues based on everyone's input. Once we have compiled a list of issues and a list of suggested resolutions, I personally will forward them to HQ for their consideration. I will will launch the new topic now...................
