  1. Tried and proven IDPA loads for 5" barrels. 2.6 grains of Titegroup behind a 200 grain lead bullet. 130PF, very soft, no recoil. 3.1 grains of Clays behind a 180 grain FMJ. 139PF, very soft, no recoil. Try these for a 4" barrel. They may be close to the same PF since both Titegroup and Clays are very fast burning. Good Luck! Roy
  2. Has anyone heard whether or not the Production rules are going to be changed?
  3. Those mod's wouldn't be legal for Production Class or IDPA SSP class.........
  4. The 9x23 (9 Super Comp) has a taper running from the mouth to the rear. The rear of the case is approx. .010" larger than the case mouth. This was done for two reasons: 1. Ease of extraction. Being a tapered case, the extractor just needs to move the case rearward a few thousandth's of an inch before if is completely free of the chamber walls (unlike a .38 Super with a straight walled case as it is in contact with the chmaber walls theru the whole process). 2. Pressure. The web at the base of a 9x23 case is VERY thick compared to a .38 Super (.38 Super Comp, etc.) and can handle MUCH larger pressures. The last time I looked it was over 50,000PSI. If you are shooting .38 Super rounds in a 9x23 chambered pistol, most of the time they will work fine BUT if there is a case that has been weakened over time, note that there is an extra amount of space around the base of the .38 Super case when chambered in a 9x23 barrel and it is not fully supported. Be careful.
  5. Recently I have been putting together an STI IPDA pistol. I'm in the process of changing the front sight. After shooting and tinkering for many years, one thinks they have a grasp of many things BUT I'm confused! For example, on a 1911 dovetail frontsite, when the height is stated at .190", is that: a) .190" from the top of the radius (or flat if you have a flat top slide) .190" from the bottom of the dovetail c) .190" from the top of the flat on the front sight base ????? Thanks for any help! Roy

    Idpa Board

Tightloop: I agree the rulebook needs "tuning" BUT I don't think we should write off the sport just because Bill Wilson is the president. Change takes time. It takes positive, logical statements, spoken in a subjective manner to send ideas. I, however, don't see a need for adding any more rules, just clarifying (and perhaps modifying) the ones we have. I agree 98% with the equipment rules as they have totally eliminated the equipment race in IDPA (the other 2% is that I think that .45ACP at a lower PF should be included in ESP division for those shooters who have .45's but don't like the recoil anymore due to age, etc.). Whether you like Bill Wilson or not, he and other IDPA board members created a very successful sport in a very short time and it's membership keeps growing.

    Idpa Board

I'm glad I started this thread! It brings to a focus some of the central issues with IDPA. The main problems I see are: 1. Match Directors who try to design a match with their "own perceived version" of real world tactics and force competitors to shoot the stage one way, period (i.e. shoot 3 from here, only load 6 rounds, although the rule book says you can, you can't). They don't realize that IDPA is a competition (a game). We even have one match director who covers targets with black dots because he fears that people who shoot semi-wadcutters will have an advantage by being able to see the holes in the targets. 2. The Main Office needs to address issues raised by the members and SO's. I think the initial rulebook was a very comprehensive and well written document. However, over the last few years of competition and with experience aquired thru the running of many matches thru-out the years, it's evident that a few rules need either tweeking or a better definition. We are not trying to "game" the sport, only trying to have a common interpetation of the rules at all clubs. It's unbelievable as to the way rules are enforced at different clubs. What's legal here (by the rulebook) is not legal there, etc.

    Idpa Board

The SO for our club has spent a lot of time on the rules clarificaton. Maybe he was doing the work for the AC. At our local matches we see the downloaded situation frequently. I agree, it shouldn't happen. Poor COF design in my opinion. We see a lot of "Skills Tests" type COF's which have all sorts of wierd situations rather than COF's which reflect real world scenario's.
  9. Now that Ken Hackathorn has stepped down from the IDPA Board, does anyone have any idea who will replace him (or will he be replaced)? Many IDPA SO's have been working on the rules over the last several months as requested by the board. Their task was not to create new rules or regulations, but to fine tune the existing ones. For example, its always been asked, if someone is shooting a stage where they were only allowed to load six rounds and had to engage x number of targets while moving to cover and while engaging they went to slide lock before cover was reached, is it OK to reload without being behind cover? In real life situations, one would be a fool not to do a reload if faced with an empty weapon behind cover or not, BUT according to the rules, one must be behind cover to do a reload. This is just one example of something that they were fine tuning. However, from what I understand in speaking to one of the SO's, after completing the work, the home office now does not seem interested. What is the situation within IDPA headquarters? Does anyone know? Thanks!
  10. Kudo's to the staff that put on last weekend's Ohio State IDPA Championship Match! The match was planned and executed like a well oiled machine. 9 stages, 90 shooters, NO WAITING at the next stage! The stages were great as well as the hospitality! Thanks to the folks at the Fort Harmar Rifle Club in Marietta, Ohio, and to Ken Hackathorn, Match Director! We'll be back next year!
  11. Yes, the guide rod used in SSP MUST be manufactured from the same material as the stock factory part, period.
  12. My IDPA load for the Glock 35 is: 180FMJ (Star) Length - 1.131" Power - 3.2 grains of Clays Primer - Winchester SP Velocity - 777 FPS 139.8PF and soft shooting. Sights don't leave target
  13. It's time for Open 10 division. The same logic that created Limited 10 division should apply to Open 10 division. There is no guarantee that if you purchase a new STI or SVI that there WILL be someone who has hi-cap mags to sell to you. To aquire mags people are breaking the law and buying hi-cap replacement tubes and building mags. WHy would anyone who shoots in Open divison be against Open 10? Let everyone have an opportunity to compete where they want to. In regards to all of the negative comment about Production division, why? Production divison allows an arena for pistols that most of the population owns. Let's give these peaople a place where they can bring their DA pistols and compete against other DA pistols without having to worry about "Gee, unless I buy a $2000 gun, I'll never score in the top 10% of the matches I go to". I have shot Open and Limited for 10 years with $2000 Race guns but now I shoot Production because its something different and interesting. As most would hate to admit it, it IS the shooter and not the pistol. Just watch Armando Valdes or David Sevigney. My thoughts....................
