  1. I forgot to post that my daughter Rebecca won High Lady at the VA/MD Section match last month. She also took B Open, and managed to beat all of the A Open folks, too......... Congratulations Bec!!! Rich (who is sorry he's so slow, but just as proud..............)
  2. Couldn't get Rebecca's Super to run SuperComp or TJ with a 38Super AFTEC, so ordered a 38SC AFTEC from Chuck on Monday. Got it TODAY, installed it with NO mods, NO polish, NO NOTHING. As one is fond of saying on The Boards of BE, it ran like a raped ape......... Thanks Chuck, thanks AFTEC, thanks Todd. Rich
  3. H335 is a great nighttime performer in short barrelled 223's. Had an XP once, 14" bbl, looked as if a bright orange basketball was coming out the muzzle. Also seemed as if there was a large secondary burn of powder AFTER it exited the muzzle. Very exciting. Always shot well as far as group goes, but not my first choice in a short barrelled gun............. Rich
  4. Anyone here actually on that department? Is so, would you drop me a PM? Thanks in advance. Richard Jones
  5. I hate that after 3 weeks of "dogsitting", my daughter's Lab disappeared. We mount a 4-county search, offer reward, etc. The dog turns up right up near my mailbox at the road, dead, been dead a couple of days, appears to have been hit by a car. Not our fault, as we let the dog run loose at night, on our daughter's orders, but that doesn't stop the hurt. At least someone brought it close to home so we'd find it and have some closure. Buried her this afternoon out near the other dogs of days gone by. All good dogs, and they're all in good company. My daughter's epitaph for Gracie: She was sweet, had a good disposition, was never mean to anyone and was friendly to everyone she met. Not too many of us can say that about ourselves, can we? And damn few things harder than for a dad to have to tell a daughter that her dog is dead. Tough day. Richard
  6. Jerry, Not sure about the length, but we've shot a zillion or so lead 255's with Clays, using 3.3 grs., so your load sounds about right, given that it's lighter and jacketed. Never had any problems with Clays in a 45, and shot from 185's thru 255's. Always pretty soft and very clean. I don't think I ever let a 45 round exceed 1.260, but if you can load them in your mag and your gun eats them OK, try it. Rich (and no, I'm not going back to Clays in a 40) in VA
  7. Have only had one case/head separation, was shooting some 220 lead in a S&W auto just to see if it would shoot it. It wouldn't. "40 face" is now a familiar term to me. Have seen it several times at matches, and was RO'ing on two separate occasions when it happened. Both times I actually saw the head eject from the gun so I knew pretty fast what happened. One shooter asked for a reshoot, said his extractor was just beefy!!!! Ha!! Rich
  8. You can make your own quite easily................ Lowe's or Home Depot, buy an 8-32 x 2" brass pan head screw and an 8-32 brass knurled nut. Both are found in the hardware drawers............... Screw the screw (!) into the knurled nut so that the pan head of the screw winds up on the largest end of the knurled nut. Tighten very tight, cut screw to length. Very cheap, very spiffy looking, and guaranteed to make reloads go much faster........... Also, to replace the Safariland rollers, Lowe's/Home Depot also sells some nylon spacers. You want the 1/2 x .194 x 1 size, cut to length and counterbore one end so that it fits over the captured insert nut on the back of the pouch. I am working on a retaining method for the screw so it won't fall out of the pouch, should have that done by the weekend. Have tried jam nuts, roll pins, o-ring, but the e-ring may be the way to go. Will let you know. I also have one STI/Tripp and one Glock 771 on my belt. One OLD pouch, whatever was pre-771, but it's in the 3rd position and if I need that one, I'm done already........... They fit Para and STI. When I was shooting my Para Limited and STI Open, I just adjusted the nose piece on the 011 and went to shootin'........... Rich
  9. I do admit to spending quite a bit of time sharpening old, worthless stuff, 'cause it's so cool!!! Rich (send 'em on) in VA
  10. Just became the proud owner of a Tormek sharpening system. I have been fiddling with sharpening knives, chisels, plane blades, etc, for over 30 years and have used stones, oil, water, man-made, natural, silicone paper, ceramic, diamond, etc. I think I have pretty much run the gamut of sharpening stuff. This thing I got will take a 50 year old wood chisel and shave the hair off your forearm. It is unbelievably easy to use, and will sharpen knives, scissors, chisels, axes, etc. Where have you been all my life? Cheap it ain't, but neither is a good gun. Rich (now happy in his little sharpening world) in VA
  11. Phil, The first two make you a winner. Good luck at the SC. Richard
  12. Congratulations to Rebecca Jones for again winning HOA at North Mountain Practical Shooters this month. That's #2, not that I'm counting or anything.......... Glad you don't take after your Dad............ Love you, DP
  13. I have one on my Open gun, VERY accurate. My $.02.................. Rich
  14. If there are personal reasons why one must back out of a done deal, then let me know. I'm not going to hold someone to a gun deal if their kid needs milk money. In this particular case, this individual bought a different action from a guy I know out in Utah (no offense to anyone from Utah), so he was just being an ass (my apologies if that offends any asses reading this, Welsh or otherwise). Rich in VA
  15. I ordered two U. S. Poppers from MGM late Tuesday afternoon. UPS just dropped them off (Friday) at my house. I'm impressed, and that doesn't happen easily. My thanks to them for a bit of faith restoration, not to mention some great looking steel....................... Rich in VA
  16. Selling a rifle action on another board, guy put a note, ON THE FORUM, "I'll take it, call me tomorrow at xxx-xxx-xxxx, we'll work out the details," which we did. Today, he calls me, says he found another action, won't need mine. I said, that isn't right, a deal's a deal, but, whatever you want, dude. You gotta live with it, not me. When I tell someone I'll buy something, I buy it, regardless of a better deal I might find later. You are only as good as your word. If your word's no good, then neither are you. Rich (feeling much better after a wee drap of the Jack and some pink lemonade....) in VA
  17. Yep, here's a link to a pic............ Didn't total the car, but almost 5k worth is enough!! Whole front stuff, both quarter panels, hood, shrouds, hood lock, A/C, radiator, windshield, horn, timing cover, ad infivenison......... Pic doesn't look too bad until you factor in that I have removed all the grill, lighs, etc, and the fact that it doesn't take much to get to $5k............ What I HATE!! Rich (did I mention that I HATE....................) in VA
  18. Thanks Dave......... I figure the deer weighed about 85-90 lbs, so that works out to about $56.77 per pound.......... Rich (did I mention that I HATE doing without MY car?) in VA
  19. If that's the spring gauge, don't bet the ranch on it being correct. Mine wasn't, and triggers that I thought were 1.75# were actually about 2.5#. I got a Lyman digital, sold the RCBS spring gauge, and am living happily ever after. Rich
  20. Just got back home this morning from The Big Event, Subaru vs. Deer. The Subaru won due to higher power factor, and the deer won't be able to compete again........... Wonder if I can get a Maserati for a rental.............. Rich (I HATE doing without MY car.......) in VA
  21. Koenig hammer, EGW sear, EGW disco in my "new" STI limited gun. oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I also have the top o' the line C&S stuff in my Para limited gun, nothing shabby about that stuff either, but can't get that quite as light as the Koenig/EGW. I haven't tried a 15# MS in the Para, but it is working fine in the STI. Rich
  22. +1 to what Steve said. The Brownell's piece is right on with regards to the disconnector prep. I lost a Section match once in Lim-10 because of that very thing..............slam a mag in and watch the hammer drop to half cock. Very disconcerting, to say the least,,,,,,,,, Will be glad to send you a pic this afternoon when I get home if it will help, just let me know. Rich (a Dremel is ALWAYS the right tool!!! ) in VA
  23. Dave, That's what I do, except that the small radius is more of a bevel.............. Is this affecting the gun in some way that you can see/feel/determine? Rich
  24. Congratulations to Rebecca Jones who won HOA at the NMPS match a couple of weeks ago, along with 4 out of 5 stage wins. Please don't forget us little people when you get to the top............. Love you, DP
