  1. That's good advice. What I usually tell people is walk in the beginning. Then, when you're comfortable, adopt a mindset of two speeds. One slow speed for shooting and gun handling, one fast speed for moving between positions. Before moving into high speed, you should go through a little mental check list along the lines of "finger out of trigger...check", "muzzle in a direction that will be safe for the duration of the movement.....check".
  2. I shot GR's for a while, here's what I found. When you really need to deliver on a tight or long shot, they don't make your life any easier than a normal, notch and post sight; in fact they make it harder and much less sure. When you really need to work the front sight at mid range, tracking it up and down, on and off the target, the fact that you loose your vision of the front sight twice during each cycle, right as its entering and leaving the rear sight (the most important part) doesn't make your life any easier. At close, but not too close, ranges where you're establishing a really basic, fast and fluid site index, looking the targets through the hoop and pulling the trigger when you see a hole full of target might be a little faster than post and notch,.....might be....a little. Up close you dont really need them so it doesn't really matter.
  3. 500 rounds a day on your own range. I think I'm starting to hate you. I suppose you've got a brass boy to collect everything up for you and have the STI ad girl coming around to serve drinks afterwards.
  4. You got that two round mag tub plug I sent you right?
  5. I need one too Keen. Shooting 4-500 a day reloading gets old quickly. My heart bleeds for you. I think my payoff would be quicker on a second press than a case feeder. Plus dont you have to be 100% on your case sorting lest you foul the thing? I can understand how it would save you time, but if you have to spend an hour going through a bucket of brass to make sure a 9mm, or a crushed mouth didnt slip in, it queers the deal.
  6. Here's the Mounting Bracket I put on that holds the AcroBin at an angle on the strong mount for easy access. ....with bullet bin attached. Brass bin bracket. ...with brass bin attached. This mounts to the back of the strong mount. It holds calipers, a brush, allen wrenches, bench wrench, primer hole tool, primer flip tray, and has little holes to hold the locator buttons when they're not where they belong.
  7. no can do, dave... Virginia Count? It would accomplish the same goal. Under the rules you'd have to use paper, which means basically you'd have to have somebody behind cover down range to score if you're going to go long like he's talking about. Based on what we saw at the BARC I'd imagine anything past 300 would be give you a lot of "2 mikes" from the Limited shooters.
  8. Check the mag release. When I kb'd in my 29 it broke the mag release. Probably part of shooting the mag out onto the ground.
  9. You need to separate the issues of what level of precision the machine functions at and what level of precision it reports on its display. I may balance my check book to the penny and have exactly $524.68, but if you ask I may say I have 500, or Five-and-a quarter. Like wise the machine may be programed to report grains to the nearest 0.01 grain, while its actually measuring to 0.005grain. Its just not telling you about it. So when it converts to grams, it may dip into that reserve of precision to get the 0.1 grams.
  10. I've got the Kel-tec P32 and I just could never get warmed up to the idea that that was serious PDW. Too small a caliber, too bad a trigger, poor sights.... I just couldent get away from the idea that if something was close enough to do damage with that little gun I'd have a lot more faith in my knife.
  11. MHO on carry guns and your choices in particular. First off, I think realistically most people need two guns. They need a full duty caliber, compact version of a full sized duty gun. This is a gun that will be worn on the belt and for all practical purposes (capacity, accuracy, controlability) be within spitting distance of the full size counterpart. Secondly, they need a hideout gun of some sort. We're talking about a gun that can be pocketed, carred on the ankle, or in thunderwear or some such thing. For this gun you want as much cartridge and shootability as you can get without busting out of the size envelope. On your choices.... I dont really like the 45 micro1911s. First off, the 45 is a lot of very good things....but size efficient is not one of them. If you were designing a gun from a blank slate for concealment, would you build it around the widest of the PDW cartridges ever commonly used? In 40 or 10mm those same guns would hold one or two more rounds; which doesnt seem like a lot, but when you're only talking about 6 to begin with, its a lot percentage wise. Second, it seems like most designs, and 1911s in particular, reliability is proportional to how much the gun has been shrunk from its full size. So, if you're going to carry this particular gun on the belt, I think a Glock 30 at 9+1, a glock 29 at 10+1 of 10mm, or a glock 23 at 13+1 of 40, or a 19 at 15+1 of 9mm are better choices at half the price, stone cold reliable, and impervious to sweat, lint and abuse. If you're all about the 1911, I think you'd find that a commander sized gun would conceal just as readily on the belt as the micro, would be more shootable, carry more ammo in 45, even more in 40, and have better parts, holster, accessory and gun smithing support. When you're talking about belt carry as soon as you're small enough to conceal under a t-shirt there's no advantage to being any smaller, only disadvantage. For you smaller hideout gun. I really like the MK and PM Kahr's. They have good triggers, good sights, good power, and they're right at the top edge of the size envelope. Best in class IMHO. One other thing to consider about your primary carry belt gun. The gun should be sufficiently shootable that you would not hesitate to take it to a multi day tactical training class where you'll fire many hundred of rounds a day. Would you pack up that baby para, a thousand rounds, and a clutch of magazines and head off to Thunder Ranch for 4 days comfortable and confident in your choice of weapon for the class?
  12. In retrospect I think the fact that it was the 29 may have been a contributing factor. In 10mm, 200 PF is a pretty normal load to shoot out of the gun. My carry ammo for that gun clocks 205pf. It didn't really feel overly hot to me because based on most of the shooting I've done with that gun the 202pf wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Heck, I shot a 800 round class with that gun using factory 205pf ammo. I'm kind of used to that thing making a big bang and launching the muzzle towards the sky. We weren't trying to break you balls bro... we were just concerned about a fellow shooter. No sweat. I'm pretty criticism proof. I really like to take things apart and figure out all the angles. Helps prevent future accidents. I've since worked up some very nice low-170'ish loads for this gun with a 155grain bullet. Did some side by side with TiteGroup and Universal at the same PF. I could not really tell the difference so I think I'll load Universal for a while because that's what I have a bunch of right now.

  14. I've shot a ton of bear creeks out of my 45 glock. It seems like there's a lot of leading, but its really just moly or plastic or something. But in any case it seems like its self limiting; builds up to a certain extent then no more.
  15. Kaiser has seemed like they've got their act together recently....but through the 90's I just hear a string of horror stories about crappy care at kaiser.
  16. You should have done that 3 weeks ago.
  17. You might have him look at the Sparks VMII as well. The VMII puts the attachment points to the belt fore and aft of the gun, instead of on top of the gun as with the executive. This makes for a thinner package which is a good thing, especially with a double stack gun. I've been very happy with the VMII I got for my Glock 29.
  18. I hear you. But I'm a big believer in market forces. Whenever I'm not sure what the best course is in a future mined with unintended consequences, I default to the free market. Just because china could sell ammo here doesn't mean that you could not still choose to spend a few dollars more fore Precision Delta, or Olin, or Federal.
  19. I've found there's sometimes 2 things at work here. One is the Dr's group takes the shotgun approach to billing.....send a bill to everybody (you AND the insurance company) and see who sends them money. So basically some of the stuff you're seeing bills for may ultimately be paid by the insurance co. This will usually fix itself if you do nothing. But do go to long or they'll send you to collections if its a real bill. The other thing that happens is the insurance companies deny claims for minor technical issues, or perhaps no issue at all, just to see if you'll cough up for something that probably should be covered. Some times, like if you see another Dr besides your Primary Care Dr because he's not in and they bill under that Dr's name, or the group name, the Ins.Co will kick it back cause the treating physicians name doesnt match your PCP of record. Really, its any reason not to pay immediately on the off chance you'll pay. The only way to get through this stuff is to start a file. Call your ins co and ask why they're not covering whatever, get the name of the person, date time....all that. If its a billing problem you'lll have to spend a bunch of time being the go between the dr's office and the Ins Co. The better records you keep and the more relentless your follow up is, the easier this will go.
  20. I always kind of figure as long as I'm not going home with any more brass than I came with, I'm on the right side of the law. If somebody's got "special" brass and want theirs and only theirs back they have to make the extra effort. Oh, and if that extra effort means the next shooter gets held up waiting for LAMR while they look for their brass, they're violating the rule big time. In the aviation community, there's some guys that fly a straight in approach instead of flying the normal traffic pattern when coming in for a landing; it saves them a couple minutes which can translate into real money. But its less safe and results in them cutting off guys in the pattern and costing them time. I always figured if you cant afford to fly the pattern, you need to fly a cheaper airplane. Same principal applies here I think. If you cant afford to play if you dont get all your brass back you might consider switching to production and a 9mm luger.
  21. It would be nice if GW would tear up Clinton's executive order baning Chinese imports. A relatively simple correction like that to put back in some market forces would force all the other players to reality check their pricing.
  22. I think thats all about the guilt of attempting to assinate Palmer.I hope Jack kicks his butt next year . Long time till Jan. I dunno about kicking butt. I think if the last two scenes are any indication, next seasons opener will have Jack sitting down to pee and talking to a shrink.
