Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I don't post much - but Pride being a negative emotion is one I can't let go of. Surprising coming from Flex. Pride is not a negative. Nothing wrong with being proud. Expectations leading to pride is not intuitive to me. There are things that I've done, and things that I do, that I am proud of. Nothing wrong with that. When a poster who talks about divorce gets through his ordeal he will be proud. Nothing wrong with that, it is an indication of the strength that many forum members related to in that thread. Pride without reason is a negative. Pride with reason is well worth celebrating. Apologies to John for thread drift. That one just caught me wrong. Wolf
  2. To which post are you referring? None of them seem out of line to me
  3. Bruce, My approach would be a little different than those mentioned. Nothing can teach relaxation - it's like skydiving - you've either done it or you haven't. There isn't a book that accurately quantifies how it feels. Dedicate a 30 or 45 minute practice session to just bill drills. Load the ammo - and just go. Eventually it'll become something like a speech you've given 100 times. The first couple have nerves and you stumble through. The next few are pretty good - still crisp and willing to give the speech. The last few are like "jeez - let it be over - I've done this a hundred times!" I don't care if the fastest bill drill is 1.2, 1.7 or 2.0 seconds. Fact is YOU KNOW there is faster and YOU KNOW you can do it. A bill drill is not complicated. So just get out there and feel your way through several of them in a row. You'll get that feeling for speed relatively quickly - now figure out how to make them A's. BW
  4. I don't think it matters what the trick of the day is. There's a reason they call it a "trick" - mostly because it has nothing to do with the task at hand. The prime example is in the movie "tin cup" when Cheech tells Costner to do all kinds of crazy stuff then swing the club - all the crazy stuff tied up Costner's brain allowing him to do exactly what he needed to do - which was just swing the club. I'd think the best suggestion was the tape on the back of the hand. My suggestion is to come up with anything you can think of, maybe it's "applying more pressure with your left pinky finger" - because in the end I doubt that applying that "additional" pressure will do squat but the reality is it will allow your brain and body to do the one thing it inherently knows how to do - and that is just shoot. BW
  5. I have noticed a lot of the same trends posted in this thread. I don't worry about these things any longer though. Competition is in fact the essence of human nature. It is what has given us everything we have today - from fire, to the car, to the phone, to the cell phone to the iPod. Competition and the desire to exceed has driven every ounce of that. Success is a choice. The desire to win can be groomed, but only groomed. It can not be grown. It is either there or it is not. The beautiful thing about this "laziness" or "liberal" component of today's youth is the ease with which those that choose to succeed will be able to impact the world of tomorrow. We've all noticed it, and we've all been concerned about it. Then I think about Pele, or Michael, or Tiger and I realize I don't even need to use last names. They've chosen to succeed beyond the scales of Wilt, or Jack or whomever. Political Correctness gripes my ass. I think it is B.S. But I trust . . . no, not just trust, I believe that those who choose to succeed will indeed succeed. That the sanctity of mankind as it has existed for thousands of years will yet again prevail. And in that I believe that the future generations will exceed all hopes and ambitions of our generations. Anymore I have neither the time nor the inclination to worry about these things because the man upstairs knows that it will all balance. For ever young soul that simply chooses to exist there is another who has chosen to be great. For generations this has been the case and for generations that will continue to be so. The greats are great. The dropouts will drop out. Only one will win, and I for one have no doubt who the winners will be and have faith in the fact that they will win gracefully and with confidence. 6. Thank You. I will check out the link. BW
  7. For some reason I don't get tied up in the technical junk either. I know it isn't always right, but I just don't care. I tried to undermine my enthusiasm for the show in my initial post because last night was the premier and I hadn't seen a post on the show yet. I am a HUGE fan. Love every minute. I stuck the needle in season 1 and have not gone back. In fact, I have a hard time talking to friends about it. In one sense I want them to experience it. In the other, like any other drug, I'd just feel guilty getting someone into something I knew they'd never be able to escape. About 30 minutes till the show . . . tick tick tick. When they kill off Jack (which they will at some point) it'll be a tough day. I love last night - Derick is like "is he ok?" and Chloe says "don't worry, he's good at this" Poor Derick has no idea . . . frankly - neither does Chloe. BW
  8. I know I can put grip tape on. What I'm wondering is if I can file down the "checkering" currently on the grip to provide a smooth surface for the grip tape to adhere to. Considering all the junk I read on Adam Tyc's gun for the world shoot I just want to confirm before I break the bastard (file that is) out. I won't be traveling out of country so this is strictly a USPSA question. It'd be great if I could file those down before I apply the grip tape. The advice of this forum is very welcome. BW
  9. I'm surprised there are no fans of the show in here. Besides me that is. I know there are technical challenges with some of the stuff they do - all that aside it is an incredibly addictive and very entertaining show. For those who do watch - what type of pistol is Jack using? Initial looked like a Glock but once he got in his bag looked like he switched to a Ruger - my only hope is that he uses something better than a Ruger. 10. I can't read all the posts in the thread. Proclass seems reasonable to me though. Charge the pros more so they have a chance to win some cash. Currently they don't have that chance (that's my impression) so I could see how some would jump on that bandwagon. Who cares about "fake" GM's. If they think their good enough they'll pony up. Otherwise they're out and we'd know it. Doesn't sound like many pros are making a lot of dough anyhow so what could be wrong with incentivizing the process? The shooter would be making the choice to spend more. If it didn't work, then rules of capitalism would once again prevail. BW
