The best thing I have found is the $20 recoil pads from Walmart. I forget the brand, but it feels like a gel pad.

Winchester White Box seems to be the cheapest. Just remember the longer you shoot factory ammo, the more money you have lost torward the purchase of a reloader.

Personally I shoot the Glock, but that is just because I have owned it for sao long. The XD feels better in my hand.
