Have you guys considered the moon's gravitational pull on the effect of weight of the charge?

Me, I load by velocity not weight. I don't care what the weight is, I need to make power factor.

I used my cheapo scale to get me close, then my chrono to dial it in. If it's not hot 🔥 enough I give my powder measure an 1/8th of a turn.

Too hot, back out off an 1/8th.

  2. Yeah, sentimental value varies greatly and what people are willing to pay...or not pay, varies even more!

Jim may be correct, but if that extra long ejector rod is fully screwed into the cylinder, you may be able to identify it over on https://everygunpart.com/handgun-kits/revolver.html.  You can narrow the search if you know the caliber, barrel length, etc...

So you all are saying a truck or an airplane has the same vibration velocity as an electric tumbler... I don't know but I'm not going to Chance it. Besides my way is faster and easier and you're ammo comes out looking positively new. Also if you're tumbling loaded pointed ammunition with federal primers who knows what's gonna happen. Just saying.

I will say in certain circumstances, it will have harsher vibration than a vibrator tumbler.  Back in the late 1980's I did field service for an semi-conductor test company and had to move one of our biggest memory chip testers from Dallas, Tx. to Houston, Tx.  It took 2 semi trucks, one to move all the mainframe/testhead modules and one to move the crates of the 30 pounds each 24" x 30" x 4" printed wiring assemblies (boards) all packed in anti-static foam padding.  It snowed the night before the trucks left Dallas and the trucks drove over icy, snow packed roads.  When we unloaded the trucks in Houston, you abso-freakin-lutely would not believe the damage.  Card cages were bent, 40 pound power supplies were swinging in the breeze on their 4-0 cables, the $100K testhead was literally shaken to pieces and most of the boards were so badly damaged they were scrapped.  All in less than 250 miles of driving on washboard snow packed roads.

So yeah, I'm saying the amount of vibration in trucks, and helicopters (higher frequency) can be worse than that little bit of vibration in a tumbler.  Also in end user packaging, there is more free space in the container for the powder to move than the very small space in a cartridge case.

I did not realize this as I installed the Radian 45 degree safety when I installed the SD3G trigger.  That safety works great with that trigger.

That seems weird as you would think its just a normal AR trigger safety.

Ditto, I had to go look at the take off trigger AND safety.  Mine have the same half moon recess in the trigger and extra material in the safety.

I also checked the KNS anti-walk pin set against the JP5 and the Build-A-Kit link bars might fit with a little grinding.  The JP anti-walk pins work fine.  I'll just use the KNS pins on the next rifle.

The "head" on those KNS anti-walk pins won't fit in the small pin area on the JP5 right hand side near the mag release.  Looks like you could prob file on the outside of the "head" to make it fit?  Or can you just use the JP anti-walk pins?

DOH!  So many rifles, so little memory!  My JP5 came with JP anti-walk pins which are still on the rifle with the Geiselle trigger.  Which explains why the KNS pin set was still in my parts bin.  I think the small Build a Kit link bars will fit.

I went out and shot it today. When I tightened the unit I used a dummy round as recommended, this helped. I also cleaned the breechface and ran a boresnake frequently, this helped too. The issues were much less though still nowhere near match ready.

That wrench is pretty trick, I'm sure you're getting a lot more torque using that as opposed to the small factory supplied tool. I think I want to get the chamber opened up a bit, for my purposes I don't need sub 1" groups at 50 yards.

The irons need to stay, RFPI gun so I gotta have 'em.

I think a recoil spring kit is in the works to see whats up.

I will remove the ejector as I plan on this being a dedicated .22. If this frame is too much of a pain maybe just I'll just buy a 1911 and swap uppers, I quite like the parts, fit, and trigger on it and Single Stack division is something I want to jump into eventually. Not ideal and kinda a last resort option but it beats a poke in the eye.

The guide rod isn't a cylinder head bolt!  20-25 INCH lbs is enough.

I have a Unit One and have no issues.  I did at first and learned what not to do.

When you put the unit on, hold the slide back from the rear while you tighten.  That makes sure everything is aligned.

Look at the ejector when you insert a mag.  It should touch when inserting, then drop slightly lower.  If you built the gun with a .020" higher mag catch shelf on the mag release, it may be rubbing.

Did you put an ejector in the receiver frame?  If so check for rubbing.  If it is a dedicated 22 receiver, take it out.

Can you eject an unfired round?  Probably not, unless you got a very new one.   They have short leades, because bullseye shooters like to have the bullet touching the land when chambered.  If you cannot eject an unfired round by just cycling the slide, don't use CCI ammo.  Their rounds are .010" longer than others.  Plus they have a heavy coating of hard wax.  I use Eley Target.  That's what my unit was tested with.

Make sure you are not riding the safety, or something else, and slowing the slide.  Since others had the same problems, it probably isn't that.  But check anyway.

The slide is short stroking.  You have to find out why.  It may be underpowered ammo.  Maybe you have too strong a recoil spring.  Buy their spring pack and experiment.  What weight mainspring did you install?  You want something in the 17-19 lb. range.

Thanks for reminding me about the short leade.  I had forgotten about reaming the chamber.

The AZOOM dummy round or a piece of turned brass rod will hold the barrel aligned with the breach face when you pull the slide back slightly to tighten down the guide rod.

I hate the cheap bent socket head cap screw 'wrench' supplied the conversion kits so I made a nice Tee handle wrench using an unbent 2.5" long stainless 10-32 socket head cap screw, a 10-32 nylok nut and a $2 hose bib handle from the local Ace hardware store.

  8. What frame are you using?  If the frame cut for the barrel foot is too wide, the Marvel barrel may not be centered after the guide rod is tightened.  The gun MAY function while clean, but as soon as it starts to get dirty, it will start having feed or ejection failures.  Get some aluminum AZOOM dummy rounds https://www.amazon.com/ZOOM-Rounds-10-Pack-Precision-Proving/dp/B07KKT2W26.  Chamber a DUMMY round while you are tightening the guide rod to help hold the barrel aligned with the breech face. DO NOT USE LIVE ROUNDS TO ALIGN THE BARREL!

Another frame/conversion alignment problem is the barrel bed is either too high or too low and after the guide rod is tightened, it drags on the hole at the end of the slide.  Open up the hole at your own risk, it may help or not, but it will certainly void any warranty.

Make sure the ejector is not dragging on the bottom of the slide.  It should be an RCH below the slide, no more than that.  If it is too low it tends to flip the empty case straight up causing ejection failures.  It also must not be dragging against the sides of the slide.

I've also seen Marvel conversions where the breach face is at the absolute minimum dimension which is too tight for most bulk ammo and again, as soon as it gets dirty, malfunctions happen.  Take the slide off and check to see how your favorite ammo fits the breach face with a dirty slide and with a clean slide, it's pretty obvious when it's too tight.  The second cheapest fix is to use premium ammo, the cheapest fix is to have a buddy who is an aerospace tool and die maker open the breach face slightly.  The other alternative is to send it back to whoever you bought it from to have the breach block replaced.

Previously the default position was hands hanging naturally at sides. I think they took it out because of all the arguments of what naturally at sides meant, even though there was a picture in the back of the rule book that demonstrated it

Years ago at a local match, before the default position was instituted, the start position on one stage was "Standing like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Strong hand hovering over, but not touching the loaded, holstered handgun."  Man, I miss Steve McCormick's sense of humor!

WOW, snake oil!  When I hear "impregnates metal" I immediately think of this guy.

    STAINS? — GOING QUANTUM

Remember, none of these snake oil salesmen have an oil refinery behind their garage, they just re-bottle oil from one of the big lubrication companies and mark up the price 10-20X.  Oh, and let's not forget there's at least one that is repackaging Crisco....with a hint of mint.

I had the same idea of just picking up another striped upper and leave the existing one as is.  Checked with PSA and Aero and never found a 9mm stripped, just complete uppers. Would prefer to find a decent price quality upper and have the option of two uppers.

After return from taking wife to airport around noon will reheat the water after about 20 hours of soak and try again. Not looking forward to defeat and sending to PSA as double shipping and a month wait.

I had to remove a compensator from a pistol barrel that had Rocksett.  I used a heated ultrasonic cleaner and de-ionized or distilled (I don't remember which) water, I think it only took about an hour and it came off pretty easy.  The ultrasonic cleaner only heats the water to around 160-170 degrees frankenstein.  Too much heat may not help.

The big difference is the barrel nut is torqued to 30+ ft lbs and the compensator is just threaded on to the correct length.

The only way SCSA gets its own BoD is to be sold/bought from USPSA and unless the Org needs some cash, it probably won't happen.

I'm just not sure how much it would take and if they'd even listen.

LOL!  Oh, the Org needs cash after the last couple of years losses.  Somebody could probably buy SCSA pretty cheap in a couple of months.

  16. Do you want only your brass annealed or just annealed brass?  If you want only your brass, pick up one of these

https://annealeez.com/product/annealeez/.  If somebody charges you $25 + shipping, depending on how much rifle you shoot, it will pay for itself pretty quickly and it works very well.

I made my own using instructions from instructions/ideas over on Arfcom

    https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/DIY-Annealing-Machine/42-434088/

I still use it, but bought one of the annealeez as a birthday gift for a buddy, OK, I got it so I wouldn't have to anneal his brass AND mine.  Works very well.

I don't shoot many Ds but if they were in fact called "Dicks" I would absolutely shoot more of them just to hear them call out 2 D hits.

@trgt & @ltdmstr thx for the feedback as the Lucas oil I just received def. isn't tha same viscosity as what I picked up from Brandon in Gordon last week & given his frequent mention of racing I'll source some of the Total ELF & call it good.

I haven't looked for the ELF HTX 976 SAE 50wt recently, but I had the best luck with competition (2-stoke) Go-Kart shops and was able to pick it up locally.  I bought 2 liters and still have one left, it has p/n 443047/T on the bottle.
