  1. That piece always breaks off on the SVI removable breechface, so I just save time and remove it with a Dremel cut-off wheel.  You can do the same, then carefully round the edges to prevent stress risers at the sharp edges.

The only hazard is the piece finally breaking off and jamming up the extractor or falling into the magazine and causing a failure to feed.  Most of the time it probably just flies out the ejection port.  I've never found one of the broken pieces IN my gun and I've broken 4 or 5 of them.

Kidd will not help you if you don't follow his instructions to install into only factory polymer trigger housings. I have complete Kidd triggers and also a kit installed into a polymer BX-25 trigger housing and all work great. I actually like the Kidd trigger in my BX-25 the best since it lets me use a Mag Dropper magazine release. The shape of the Magnum Research and Kidd trigger groups will not allow the use of some magazine releases due to the shape of the trigger guard.

Actually Tony will help you even if you don't put it in the Ruger Poly housing, it just will be with a good helping of sarcasm and more than a little ribbing!  It also helps to offer sending Oatmeal Raisin or Chocolate Chip cookies.

  3. If you don't want to spend $285 for the Kidd complete drop-in assembly  https://www.coolguyguns.com/KIDD-Single-Stage-Trigger-Unit-Drop-In_p_29.html and you're not sure if the Kidd Trigger Job kit https://www.coolguyguns.com/KIDD-Trigger-Job-Kit-with-Hammer-Sear-Disconnect-and-Trigger-blade_p_95.html will work with the Magnum Research trigger housing, there are always stripped Ruger trigger housings on on Fleabay https://www.ebay.com/itm/144065673651 Numrich https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/288440A or complete Ruger trigger assemblies on S&P Outfitters https://sapoutfitters.com/product/ruger-1022-complete-trigger-group-extended-mag-release-new-oem/

    Kidd Trigger Job kit $127

    Fleabay housing $27.29

    S&P complete $44.99

Put the Trigger Job parts in the Ruger polymer housing and save $100, or just buy the Kidd compete assembly either way will be a very good trigger.

I must be lucky. I grew up in Scottsdale AZ and have been loading on Dillon's since the mid 80s, (in fact my buddy was married to Mike Dillon's daughter) and have yet to get a primer stuck in a tube.

    What gives?

During the previous great primer shortage, or was it the one before that?  I bought a bunch of Winchester small (rifle or pistol? can't remember which) that had an occasional oddly sized or shaped primer that would somehow get wedged in a primer tube.  I haven't had problems with stuck primers before or after that batch.  I also had more than a few crunched primers trying to seat them, they worked fine once loaded.  Again, haven't had that problem since.

They collected feedback on the website for the bylaws changes a year minus 2-weeks ago, but I think my comments were largely ignored.

LOL!  Don't feel like it's just you.  Everybody's comments were ignored.

  7. Wow!  Seriously, if it's just one primer, it's not exactly a live hand grenade.  A tube full of primers is a different matter, but for just one primer, and you want to save the tube.  Just gently clamp the opposite end of the tube in a vise so the other end is pointed in a safe direction and gently heat the primer end of the tube with a propane torch.  It'll pop so you may want to wear ear pro and eye pro, but unless you melt the tube with the torch, the tube will be fine to use after it cools down.

Now to wait for internet to explode.

I've removed stuck primers this way several times.

I can't really find anything to disagree with here. It seems reasonably accurate.

That said, I just don't get it.

When I started 3 gun (2016?) the attitude from competitors was different. People were motivated. Newbs wanted to get better. We occasionally had heat at the big locals, guys like Tommy Thacker in the early days and Froelich at some a few years later. Even with those guys sometimes showing up, there were no name regulars that could keep them on their toes.

The goal of every newbie was to work hard to get to that level.

I know, I started by seeing Horner, Garcia etc. on an episode of 3GN playing on a department store display TV of all places and knew I had to try this.

I wasn't a shotgun guy. I had no friends to tag along with or to talk me into it. But I wanted to be a 3 gun guy and that means shotgun. And practice with it. Because it's called 3 gun. So I became proficient with it.

I'm still not a "shotgun guy". I have three, my 1301 match gun and two wall hangers that collect dust. I'm actually not a pistol guy either. That's all besides the point, I'm a pretty dedicated 3 gunner which means I don't use any of that as something to complain about or an aspect that needs changing to accommodate me.

Nowadays the feeling I get from new guys is completely different. They aren't hungry anymore. They don't see a new challenge or get their ass kicked and use it as fuel to go home and practice. They usually just complain. Or blame the shotgun. Or just never show up again. They almost have an attitude of entitlement. Like, "I'm here, I paid good money for fees, ammo, gear and in return this match needs to pat me on the back".

It's disheartening to see from my perspective as what's considered an old time 3 gun veteran at this point.

Worse yet are the club matches that seem to be catering to this new mindset. But with locals all drying up it might not be a problem in the future.

@ecn515 can't remember if you've chimed in on this thread yet, but you pretty much shoot in the area I do. You see any of this stuff the way I do or am I just becoming the cranky old man of 3 gun and getting pissed at all the young whippersnappers because I think everything was more hardcore back in the day?

Wow!  You took the thoughts right out of my head!  I shot some 3 Gun back in the day, but back then it was mostly a rifle stage, a pistol stage, a shotgun stage, repeat.  This was back at the tail end of the Soldier of Fortune matches and unfortunately I didn't take the opportunity to go.  Like you I saw 3 Gun Nation on TV and it made me want to get back in on the fun.  Unlike many "Shotgun is my favorite power tool" to quote the infamous Pat Kelley.

No offense, but that doesn’t shoot “super flat.”

Also, what exactly is the point of a gun like this?

Point?  We don't need no stinking point!  To paraphrase the 1974 Blazing Saddles paraphrase of the 1948 Treasure of the Sierra Madre paraphrase of the 1927 novel of the same name.

I've built guns that really didn't have a point other than because I wanted to build it, one was so pointless, Mike Voigt told me "If you tried to rob a bank with that thing, you'd have to shoot someone before they took you seriously!"

Oh, and I want to thank Hamco Engineering for helping with the machining, and Competition Gun Works for the advice on making the trigger.

  11. I remember the good ole days, yeah right!  The range in Norco, Ca. used to host some major matches that were 'staff' reset.  The first year the 'reset staff' was a local high school girls basketball team.  Southern Cal in the summer time, oh my!  The reset staff was paid a small wage and got all the brass to resell to the shooters.  The line to buy back brass was quite long. LOL!

Word spread and the next year the match sold out almost immediately....that year the reset staff was the BOYS basketball team......Oh well, at least the wives were happy.

The matches were quite successful.  Set-up and tear-down were done by a hired crew.

If you wanted to help reset, it was quite welcome, but not required.  I've been to couple of matches where competitor reset was NOT allowed, but most have no problem with extra volunteer help.

Never had a case gage if it was a major match ammo got dropped in the barrel point is the time people mess with these could be saved with the barrel you use to perforate card board

    Yes, No, and Maybe!

Yes, you can use the barrel to check your ammo.

No, it won't catch all the bad ammo.

Maybe, you'll get lucky using the barrel to check your ammo and the bulged side of the case went into the barrel against the hood/top of the barrel and you caught the bad round.  Maybe, you won't be lucky and the bulged side went in on the ramp side of the barrel and dropped all the way in, or the out of round/gouged rim went in on the ramp side instead of the hood side.  Want to gamble on which orientation the bad round will go into the barrel at a match?

A case gauge that is tighter than the chamber and checks the full circumference of the case and rim, WILL catch the bulged case, or damaged rim, EVERY time.  For the small cost of a good case gauge and exactly the same amount of time as using the barrel, a case gauge is a good investment.

Never used the NLA handle suppressed… but it’s by far the best handle mechanically.

Interesting the MPX he gassy. Thought the whole point of locking bolt and gas piston was to reduce the gas/fouling coming rearward. 🤔

The gas system dumps the excess gas inside the handguard which is open back into the upper receiver.  Even unsuppressed the stock charging handle lets quite a bit of gas past.  The Next Level Armament charging handle and lifter block work well on the MPX.  The lifter block does block some of the gas from passing the charging handle.
