  1. I had the same type of issues. My solution ended up being 26gr Universal Clays under the lee 7/8oz slug for just under 1500fps. If I go up or down a bushing size [to the published max] my groups go to hell. I think what the poster above said about how long the slug is in the barrel might be on to something there...
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNe5_rLnQPI I have TONS of video up also: Example the infamous Stage 8 just look at "Ozark 3 Gun Match" on http://www.youtube.com/barrysuperhawk
  3. A small question about the rules [scoring] Below is a direct quote from http://www.midwest3gun.com/rules.htm If I am reading this right a single "d" hit on a target incurs a 10 second penalty, NO hits on the target, a 15 second penalty, and a hit on a no-shoot a 5 second penalty. My question is in reguards to the TNE penalty. If I am correct, holes in the target is the only measure of whether it was engaged i.e.: no holes = not engaged regardless of how many rounds were shot at it. Do non scoring [edge] hits count for the engagement, thus sparing the competitor from a TNE and only scoring a fail to neutralize? Does this also count for steel, since it's either a yes/no proposition, or can a competitor make the claim that "spun steel" has been engaged and thus only subject to a 10 second failure to neutralize? If we can get some concise clarification/explanation before the match, it might save some headaches later...
  4. Er, Double tap... I guess to fill up the space I will point out that last year they ran out of fat-guy T-shirts [me] before I got there, so to make up for it [because I whined alot] Ken went above and beyond and sent me FOUR match shirts [2 for me and 2 for the GF that bailed and didn't even show up...]. So, KUDO's to KEN for making an otherwise really insignificant problem much better than right. Also, I would like to say I am also in favor of more clarity on the prize table. 2 years ago I think I could have had a Sabre Defence upper if I had realized it was in our pile to pick from.... but Congrats to the guy that was 2 places behind me but more observant than I was ...LOL
  5. Is that Kirk's old witness in your avatar? Looks like a Sig X5 to me. I will definitely be back at this match. Ruf knew what it was.........he was just being an........a........a...........he knows what he was being. I OWN PAGE 2!! Wait, this isn't arfcom...NVM. I'll be back as an RO and last-placeholder in Heavy Metal this year, if y'all will have me back... Maybe this time we can have someone that actually knows how to mix the tannerite so it actually goes boom?
  6. You *did* see my video link, right? I know they are all stupid long, that is the raw video. When I get time I will edit the everything down to just the shooting...
  7. Well, I dislike the bolt-on magwell as well as the lock, so I want to ditch it all. Plus I have Smif and Alyx on all of my other 1911's so this will make things match.. OK, so the spring and the pins are the same... what about the bottom plunger...part #30?
  8. I have a Springfield ARmory TRP and I want to get rid of the magwell [and lock] and replace it with a Smith & Alexander One piece housing and magwell [ just realized I have to spell out the companies..] Anyway, I just want to make sure there's no gotcha's in this simple seeming process, and make sure I have all of the proper parts before I take it apart.... Aside from the magwell, I assume I will need both buttons, a mainspring, the retainer pin and the basepin? That would be parts 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 & 30.
  9. I wish someone would have posted this little bit of advice on Enos before I spent $10k on all these guns and gear. My only other suggestion would be to have an organized after shoot party on Saturday night at the match hotel. I only got the pleaseure of meeting my squad mates, RO's, and a few others at the match. Actually, I *did* post about how hard this sport can be. Heres a pic from my owh April match where we had 3" of snow on top of 2 days of rain...and we shot anyway... I forget who [a user on here] turned this pic into a motovational poster, but it seemed to fit...
  10. Actually, CMMG has had all of the above mentioned issues too, they had a ton of rain, people on ATV's tearing about, Muddy ass forest stages where you had to run on slick nasty ground with a loaded gun, confusion about the range location and where registration was to be held AND those same little 5x5 bastards that nobody liked when they spun.... and so on. Given all of the challenges faced by the staff and the shooters, this match went off comparatively without a hitch. Yeah the rain made everything nasty, and yeah, a few GAMERS screwed up stage 8 for everyone else, and yeah, in the middle of Missourri, there were redneck kids ridin around on ATV's... to all of that I say BIG DEAL. Bottom line, in my own opinion, is 3 gun is not a sport for pansies, if you don't come away bleeding from at least one stage, you aren't serious enough. One thing I LIKE about 3 gun is there are often physical challenges that one must overcome in addition to merely shooting.
  11. Hey now, that was uncalled for... er, wait...wat? The RAW Youtube videos - and I do mean RAW... completely unedited POV video - Be nice I was still learning to work the camera...
  12. So, for those of us that have never been here, are there better directions that "5 miles behind the HyVee" available? Maybe GPS coordinates or an address that a mapping software can actually understand? [accoeding to google maps, riddle road doesent exist...]
  13. not to hi-jack the match announcement...but A friend just offered to let me borrow his camper, so now I need to know about camping... Do I have to make "reservations" or what? If the campsite info isn't general enough, feel free to PM me instead...
  14. I have tumbled damn near everything from old, dirty or corroded cartidges to dies, to screwdriver bits. Everything tumbles just fine. Specifically, you want to take the dies apart and only do one piece at a time. Use a toothbrush or similar to clean the cob out afterward. Ammo does just fine tumbled for a couple hours, but it works better the more you have...
  15. Well the CMMG follower and spring turned my 40 round USA mags into 100% reliable mags, so I think the precedent is there... I say 2 of those clamped togeather mags break on different stages at the FNH 3 gun, so I will pass on those. Both failures were due to abuse, but isn't that what we do in this sport? So, I think 1 piece mags are the hot ticket for me... I will be buying some of these..
  16. I hate to resurrect an old thread, but there were some of us that did not get the match shirts because they ran out. Friday, by the time I made it through the line...Shirts were gone. Granted this is a small annoyance, but I had actually paid for 2 shirts, and the little woman was kind of wondering why I didn't bring *her* shirt home... I was supposed to end up with a med and a 2xl. Help? Ken??
  17. Ok, got the APP, waiting to see if I can take off work to be able to help R.O. For those of us that are travelling, any tips? Typically I stay in Rolla when I am shooting down at COPS, but this range looks farther [read: have to get up earlier in the morning] I might be able to borrow a camper and camp, but in the event that I cannot, any suggestions?
  18. I want in!!!! Where's the APP? Where is this "perfect location?" How much to shoot? What round count? Would you like some help? <<====See? it even SAYS "looks for match" under my name....
  19. Damn, everybody seems to be trying to turn Heavy Metal into limited tactical. It's not about "your opportunity" to complete in another class with the "same equipment", if that were the object, then why have classes at all? The point of Heavy metal is to just like the point of single stack in USPSA, to level the playing field for a class of guns that otherwise are at a tremendous dis-advanage because of the arms race. Heavy metal is: A single stack .45, with open sights and 8 round mags. For a bonus, require a retention holster. A pump 12 Ga, max of 8 rounds, no loaders, porting or optics. no "managed recoil" slugs A .308 rifle with open sights and 20 round mags. no comp, only flashiders or plain barrels. borderline "comps" will onlt be allowed if it originally came as a military rifle configuration, e.g. the FAL short brake. If you want to "game" these specifications, go to Open, Limited or Tacticool. If you are too old to see open sights, the tacticool will welcome you. To dilute heavy metal so everyone can play defeats the purpose of having heavy metal.. I don't go to nearly as many matches ar Trapr, but it seems every single match I go to has some slight variation on it's rules. I actually decided to skip a 3 gun match yesterday in ROLLA, MO *Beacause* they switched to USPSA Mulitgun rules and I didn't feel like re-configuring my whole kit just for that match. This is about the only varition of my he-man rules that I could get behind.... but it would still have to be a single stack and loaded to 175 PF.
  20. A local shop has a .308 FN PBR, 18" with the brake on the wall and I am trying to talk myself into or out of it. Currently I shoot 3 gun and high-power, but I would like to find some type of match to shoot scoped rifle. My home range only goes to 200Y, but I am hoping if I can find a rifle that works for me, it would be worth my while to travel a bit to seek out new matches to shoot a scoped rifle at. What I want is a good target gun that could do double duty in sniper/MOR class competitions. I have had other rifles before and have found things I didn't like about them, so now I am checking things out first. I want a rifle that has these features, without having to wait on a gunsmith or having to mortgage the house to get it. I want a brake, integrated mount, detachable mag and a synthetic stock. My history: I bought a Remington P17. It was cool, but damn heavy and not a particularly accurate example. Then I had a Howa 1500, and it was a great rifle, but I wanted a detachable box mag and a faster twist barrel. Then I bought a CZ 527. It was nicer, but that odd ass set trigger didn't agree with me. Then I tried a Savage, but again, the (accu)trigger was my downfall - nothing wrong with the gun, just not my thing. I also wasn't a fan of the long-action .308. Then I bought a Sako, and it has a brake, but no detachable magazine, and the fixed mag is wonky. The scope mounting also leaves a bit to be desired. So, the PBR seems to have the features I want [brake, integrated mount, detachable mag] and I have heard that they can be as accurate as any other out of the box rifle. I have also seem posts about epoxy on the trigger adjustment screws and questions about the bedding. Last, I was hoping for more than a 4 round magazine, but I don't really want to mess with changing bottom metal, if I don't have to. [Yeah, I am a graduate of the WECSOG, and I am hell with a dremel, so getting something that is complete is a better idea..] I would love to have a GAP rifle, but if I had the cash for that I wouldn't be here agonizing about a deal on a PBR... So, what are your opinions?
  21. Ok, maybe my reply was overly harsh, chalk it up to my having *just* gotten the "you should go to church" speech. I'm really not trying to bag on anyone's religion, I mostly just object to when someone else's religion pushes it's nose into my life. It is this holier than me evangelisim that I am annoyed by, not the practice and theory. I am not real thrilled by those guys in suits that knock on your door and try to convert you, either. There is a quote floating around to the effect of "Going to church doesen't make you Christian any more than going to an auto shop makes you a mechanic." I know alot of people that go to church more for the "look at me, I am a good church-goer" effect rather than out of any real conviction, in other words hypocrites. Oh, and Happy Easter to you too...
  22. ....because we all know everyone on the net always tells the truth.. Well, I have picture, video and live witness proof of my assertion, how about you? Or do you just expect me to take your word for it that you personally actually know a church-goer that has died for their beliefs? I assume you are actually referring to the story about a guy about 2000 odd years ago maybe? If so, then you don't know someone who has died for their beliefs, you have been told a story about someone centuries ago. In that case, my assertion stands, how many of the good religious folk that you hang out with every Sunday would still show up in these conditions? I am not talking about things that happened centuries ago, I am talking about right now saying Easter Mass, outdoors, in a snowstorm with 2" of standing water everywhere with no shelter. Oh, and my "mass" lasts 8 hours.. Seriously though, this is exactly what I am talking about. This idea that because you believe that someone died somehow *you* are morally superior to me. Just because one can perform the religious equivalent to a name-drop, does not make one in any way superior. I can quote scripture, does that make me a better man than someone who cannot? I swear the only religion that is more annoying is the one with the suicide bombers. Speaking of the ROP, yes, I do actually know some "shooters" that have "taken one for the team" as you so artfully put it. I knew them for years, and went to their funerals, in person. The guys I knew even took their lumps in the same part of the world. Again, I am not denegrating any religions themselves, everyone is free to believe whatever they want, and none of them are any more right or wrong than any other as far as I am concerned. I am just pointing out that there are some practicioners that may be less dedicated, that's all. Sorry if this seems like a vent, I just had to listen to a ration of grief about not going to church this Sunday... Oh, and Thanks for this... got a larger copy?
