  1. I just started loading a new batch of bullets from a different manufacturer. Now about 90% of my ammo doesn't fit in the case guage. The bullets are the same style I've been loading (200 Gr SWC in .45), but it is from a different company. The cases look like they are bulged right below the bullet. Is this a bullet problem or a press problem? I tried adjusting my crimping die in either direction, but it didn't seem to make a difference. TIA
  2. Stuck on "Mission to Mars" ... for now.
  3. I would appreciate seeing any photos / videos of the holding system.
  4. I'm sure this topic has been repeated many times, but those guys are great. A part broke on my SDB last night, and no questions asked they are shipping replacements today. Other companies could learn alot from this type of service.
  5. We shot this one yesterday. With all due respect, I would like to say that Ken Hicks is an evil man For us newbies 50 yds is a long way, even without a 6 second time limit. The best shooter in our match put up 69 pts.
  6. Thanks for all of the great ideas. It will be a long time before the gun is what is holding me back, but a man can dream can't he? It may be completely unrelated, but I'm envious of those guys who can grab their gun with 2 fingers and pull the slide back like it has a 4 lb. recoil spring. It probably has nothing to do with how well the guns shoots, but it's realy cool Thanks again for all of the tips. It sounds like I need to find out who to talk to in the Carolina's now that Tommy A. is no longer with us.
  7. That is basically what I have now. A Taurus 1911 with a 3 lb trigger pull and Chip McCormick mags. I have a set of Novak adjustable sights I'm going to put on it over the winter. A magwell, custom grips and 14 lb. recoil spring. Ed Brown Ambi-Thumb safety, because the one from the factory didn't like being near the gun (It kept falling off and runnign away. ) Other than that its pretty much how it left the factory.
  8. If you were going to build a "no holds barred" race gun for the Single Stack division, where would you start and what would you do. Currently my almost stock Taurus is still more accurate than I am, but someday that will change. If I decide to stay in the SS division, I would like a top of the line pistol. TIA
  9. I'm using Chip McCormick Power Mags in my Taurus with no problems. What kind of fit issues are you having?
  10. I don't want to take this off topic, but I have to wonder how someone shows up at a match with a backwards primer. I just started re-loading, and every round I load gets looked at several times. If it's going to a match, it gets measured for length and gauged. If not, it still goes in the ammo box primer side up, and gets a close look to make sure every primer is seated properly. I'm only loading about 500 rounds a week. Maybe if you are doing several thousand a week you don't have time, but for a match why wouldn't you?

I'll jump on the Burwell bandwagon. He did my new 9L in under 2 weeks, and it's awesome. Scott
  12. I've never been there, but I've heard nothing but good things. They are holding the State match there next month, so it must be a pretty big range.
  13. Calipers and Mixed Brass. Thanks for all of the advice. I felt like variation in the bullet casting was part of the equation. I guess if you stack that on top of the other factors it all adds up. I'm glad to know its not going to affect things too much.
  14. I just started reloading, and I'm currious how consistent my overall length should be. I have a new Dillon Square Deal in .45 ACP. I am loading Magnus 200 Gr SWC. Most of my brass is once fired. I was trying for 1.247 because of the inconsistency. I have loads anywhere from 1.243 to 1.252, with about half of them being either 1.247 or 1.248. Here is a chart of the distribution. I feel like I should be able to do better than that, but I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
  15. The X-Y Scatter chart in Excel is perfect for this thing. If you send me some data I can throw it into a speadsheet to get you started. I've just started re-loading and I've been doing the same thing.
  16. I didn't remember the rule properly. I thought it was that it couldn't be all steel. Thanks for setting me straight.
  17. The current classifier book shows a few all steel stages (The Steely Speed variatons.) The current rule book says that all steel stages are no longer legal. Can these stages still be shot as classifiers?
  18. Why are the SS nationals held separate from the other nationals?
  19. I'm thinking about driving down from the Charlotte area. It's about the same distance as to the NC state match the month before.
  20. A .300 wide dovetail wont fit in a .330 wide slot. I guess the .330 x .075 would fit in a .330 x .060 with a little trimming.
  21. From what I can measure .300 x .060 x ??. It looks like 60 degrees on the front and 65 degrees on the back. The sight itself is .175 wide x .160 tall.
  22. Taurus had Heinie make a bastard dovetail just for this gun. None of the off-the-shelf replacements will fit.
  23. I want to put a fiber optic front sight on my Tuarus 1911. There are no direct replacement parts for this gun. The closest thing I could find was one made by Dawson Precision, but it is only .12 tall, while the factory sight is .16. Since my front sight is going to be .040" shorter, do I remove the same amount from the rear sight?
  24. I'll second that. Once I got through to the right person the right parts were on the way the same day. It's unfortunate that it took 10 days of phone calls and unanswered e-mails before that happened.
