  1. Chris, Thanks for the tips. Wish I could buy an 1100 but since they take the extended mag tubes of the 870 that would make me a felon in NJ. Can't posess a semi-auto shotgun that holds more than six rounds you know...... or the components to make one.... But if you're willing to pump the action then 15 rounds is the magic number. Anyone make an extension for the 870 that will hold 15 rounds? (Just kidding, I wouldn't want to try to track targets with one.) (Edited by Nik Habicht at 7:43 pm on May 27, 2001)
  2. One of the local IPSC clubs is going to be holding a shotgun side match from now on. Beyond knowing that I should bring my shotgun (Remington 870, Ashley Express sights, 7 round total capacity) any words of advice on ammo selection, gunhandling, practice, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I can put slugs into a tighter group at 25 yards than I can with any handgun if that's a help.... Thanks,
  3. Pat, Since you are posting more than Brian you should get used to it......Besides we only kid those we love. So have you ordered the new, extrawide doors for your house yet? You know the ones that will let your expanded head leave to go to the range?
  4. Michael, was she in the mob? lol
  5. In my part of the country (Northeast) Glocks are the most populat gun in SSP. In CDP and ESP 1911's seem to be the rule.
  6. Jon, If you are planning on shooting the 35 in production the only power factor there is 125. The 35 should handle any mild handloads easily ---- and make that power factor easily. The rub will come if you decide to shoot it in any other division if you decide it must make major. If you do ---- make sure it's with jacketed bullets and follow Pat's advice about not duplicating 1911 loads and making them fit by seating the bullet deeper. Oh, the polygonal rifling should also buy you a few feet per second in the velocity department. Good Luck.
  7. Jon, I think it's the driver not the equipment. Use what you have until the equipment is holding you back or until the equipment is so broken that you really need a new gun.
  8. Put me down for the tapes too......
  9. How would one go about going to the Limited Nationals next year if one wanted to go? Do the Nationals require any sort of equipment that a regular 5 stage IPSC does not require?
  10. Sounds like you need a third one ---- maybe with a request not to sign this one so that you can actually read it?
  11. Whew, glad it's back ---- was having nightmare visions of another restart.... Ron, are you doing keyboard drills again, or are you just happy that the site is back up?
  12. And knowing you did the work is its own reward, isn't it?
  13. Since I'm about to take my Glock 21 out to shoot IPSC in Limited Class, does anyone have any favorite major loads? And since the chamber in Glocks is not fully supported do I need to worry about that with 45 loads?
  14. I can also recommend the Blade-tech magazine pouches. I've been using a pair of single pouches with the Tek-Lok feature for the past six months. I prefer them to the double pouch both because they are easier to position around beltloops and because it's easy to exchange one for a Tek-Lok flashlight holster if you have to shoot a flashlight stage. They are tension screw adjustable for a very fast draw, considerably faster than leather, I think. (Edited by Nik Habicht at 10:57 am on May 24, 2001)
  15. I've been shooting a Glock 34 with Meprolight Night sights in IDPA competition for the last year and like the setup a lot, even though there's not a lot of light around the front sight. However my new favorite night sights are the Wilson Nite Eyes that are on one of my 1911's. They allow lots more light around the front post, and just seem to be closer to classic all black sights than the mepro lights. I see that Wilson offers them for Glocks now ---- thay are kind of pricey though, about $ 120 vs. $ 65 for Mepro from Glockmeister --- and I've never inquired whether the Wilson front sight screws to the slide just like Glock sights or if it requires machining. I'm thirty-five, with no real vision problems, YET. It occurs to me that if you still have Heinie's and don't like them the way they are you have nothing to lose by shaving them and seeing what happens.
  16. Duane, It's the old mentality of "I want x, but I don't want to work to get x." I'm getting some flak from my fellow shooters for practicing on twice weekly basis. I set a goal in October 2000, after missing sharpshooter on an IDPA classifier by about 9 seconds, of reaching expert by this October. I've practiced hard and (thanks to this forum and its predecessor) smart and have just made sharpshooter with a time in the high 130s. So with five months to go I'm about halfway there. If I can sustain the effort, I might just make it.
  17. Searching the results from the USPSA website (that go back to 1995) I come up with a tie of 53.8 % by Jerry Barnhardt at the 1999 Limited Nationals and by Rob Leatham at the 1996 Limited Nationals. Perversity makes me wonder though if Jerry Barnhardt posted a higher percentage the year he showed up with the first red dot scope?
  18. Following in Chris' footsteps, I attended my first IPSC match today. The longest shot in the match was maybe 15-20 yards. I didn't find the actual shooting to be a great challenge; missed one round on one target in the whole match, shot a coule of d's and a few c's. What I found difficult though was just trying to remember what to do next ---- I guess I found the quantity of targets on each course somewhat overwhelming. That having been said, I'll be sure to return next month. And considering how much I learned today ---- and how much labor is involved in planning for and setting up a match ---- maybe I'll be ready to design a stage in a few months. Maybe even a stage with some difficult precision shots ----- to slow down the hosemasters. (Besides, that might be the only way I'll ever place high in the standings.....if I design a stage that plays to my strengths...... yes that was tongue in cheek!) Bottom line was the same for this match as for the bulk of IDPA or GSSF matches I've shot: I was happy with my accuracy, thought that I should be capable of shooting the courses faster, and I had a great deal od FUN!
