Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. If you want to go dedicated, Taccom has a 1:16 barrel for $105. Otherwise the cheapest 1:12 I could find when I looked into this was Green Mountain 20" barrel for $168. Good luck Lucas
  2. If you like the RIA, try the new RIA 1911-A2 Target, it comes with 9mm and 22TCM barrels and is a high capacity taking Para mags. Should be just the ticket for 3 gun. Lucas
  3. They should be legal. I have the Hogue finger groove style on mine and I have shot SS Nats the last two years with no problems.
  4. I re-barreled a Stevens 200 (basically a Savage 10 action) action and I went with a Criterion barrel chambered in 284 Win from Jim at Northland Shooter Supply. There is a ton of information at Savageshooters.com forum about this and Jim is a vendor over there. Haven't stretched it out and developed loads yet. Headspacing was pretty simple and the swap was a breeze. Good luck. Lucas
  5. I started with the exact setup you are considering, RIA GI 38 Super. I wanted to learn to shoot well and upgrade a 1911. This gun accomplished both objectives, added LPA adjustable sights, Kimber ambi safety, Ed Brown grip safety, fit EGW sear, Koenig hammer, sear spring, STI trigger and other parts, and made it to 'A' class. Great gun, but as you mention, now I am looking for a new 45 top end for Major, it probably won't help my scores but oh we'll. I ru CMC Shooting Star mags and Colts with 10 rd CMC spring/follower. I say go for it and have fun.
  6. Saving my pennies for this one. Hoping to get the 45 and swap out uppers with my 38super/9mm RIA so I can shoot single stack major and have a high cap 9mm if I get into 3 gun. I cannot find any that are actually for sale and they have been talked about for a while, so I guess I will continue to wait.
  7. Kind of a dumb question, but here goes. Is there a grace period for membership renewal. I mean if I forget to renew my membership, shoot a big match and win my class, will I still get bumped up or do they hold classification until I pay up, or throw it out since my membership was expired. Just a curiosity type question, thought I'd ask.. Thanks.
  8. I tried some Magtech small rifle primers in 38 Super open EAA witness (with Henning's XL firing pin) and I got several light strikes, went back to Winchester small rifle and did not have a problem. My buddy had a similar issue with CCI BR4's (small rifle benchrest, it was all he had) in a 9mm XDM open gun, loaded up my Winchester small rifle primers and he didn't have any problems. I have heard that Magtech primers are harder than the Winchesters.
  9. Just FYI, Saturday is full. Got an email today to see if I could shoot Fri or Thurs.
  10. Henning used to offer the 25 round mags on his website, which he would build into a 28/29 round mag with his mag pad and Grams spring and follower. I have a large frame 38Super open gun (not a Gold Team), so I used to look at them, but couldn't pull the trigger. Looks like I waited to long. You may want to contact Henning and see if they will be available again, if you haven't already.
  11. I bought a used one on this forum really cheap and it works great compared to no magwell. That being said I still want to try one of the larger SS magwells. Lucas
  12. I posted some load data that I chrono'd a while back to get minor PF to shoot in single stack. Link is below, post #4. Now I have some Precision Deltas to check out with Win231, gonna use it all up then try something else. Hope it helps. 38 super BBI 130 Win231 Load Data
  13. Don't really know if this will help because it is 38 super, but below is some load data that I worked up recently using BBI 130g TC's and Win 231. Division Single Stack COAL 1.250" Bullet BBI LRNTC Method Pwdr measure Gun RIA 1911 38 Sup Primer CCI550 PF Target 135 Powder Bullet Weight Powder Wt 1 2 3 4 5 Average Std Dev Power Factor Win 231 130 4.4 1026 1074 1059 1065 1061 1057 18 137.4 Win 231 130 4.6 1064 1057 1086 1068 1079 1071 12 139.2 Win 231 130 4.8 1105 1092 1119 1131 1109 1111 15 144.5 Win 231 130 5 1137 1102 1152 1125 1121 1127 19 146.6 Win 231 130 5.2 1183 1193 1161 1136 1140 1163 25 151.1 From graphing the data and extrapolating down it appears that 4.0 grains will get me 130PF and 4.3 grains would get me 135PF, will probably try 4.0gr and 4.2gr thru the chrony and see if the data matches the expectation. Lucas
  14. Shot this a couple of days ago. Will be my sixth classifier on record, 54pts 8.78s for 6.15HHF calc gave me 66%, which is said it was a B level classifier. My first B classifier. I will have to say Steve Andersons Dry Fire book is great, as I started dryfiring a few weeks ago and my draw times, reloads and turn draws are getting alot better. Should bump me up to C...Hope to get to B before long.
