  1. Well, You may still be crazy but Hodgdon is suppling those powders now. Here is a link to their load manual : http://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/Hodgdon%20Basic%20Manual.pdf Later, Chuck For some reason, my saved link to Hodgdon was just giving me their powders, not imr or winchester. Thanks to all for the help I will update the saved link.
  2. I was looking for info for winchester powders for pistol, and they don't list any stats for WSF/WST/231 etc on the site any longer. Call me crazy , but are they making a statement about them not being usable for pistol reloading. I know there was info in the past???????????????? anyone know anything? please?
  3. I am caught between vv-n320 and WST as my choices for a powder in .40 Limited with the difference in cost for the powder. As bullet prices keep going up, i will be shooting more moly coated bullets (at least for practice) and TG seems to be a poor choice. Would I be a fool to try to save $ on bullets and then spend more $ on the powder? I live in northern IL and the outdoor temp changes drastically with the spring to summer to fall season, and would the WST be too inversely temp sensitive? It just went from 90 degrees to 70 over night and the round would change to the hot side??? Or opposite in the spring and I possibly wouldn't make power factor. If loading to 170 PF would the temp sensitivity of WST make that much of a difference??? Thanks
  4. CPD= .45 ACP, don't know about the GAP. Also, you can only load to 8+1 as it was the category for 1911's. So the XD45 could shoot CDP with 8+1 or esp or ssp at 10+1. but you MAY consider it a disadvantage shooting against 9mm guns.
  5. I live in norther IL and it gets humid here in the summer, should I worry compared to dryer climates
  6. First, while reloading with a Dillon, is there a level of powder necessary in it, to better regulate a proper grain amount falling? If it gets on the low side, not empty but low, does the "throw" amount vary due to lack of powder/weight pushing down? Someone told me to always keep it at least half full, TRUE??? Second, should you not leave any powder in a Automatic Powder Measure System in between sessions or when changing over to another powder measure with a Deluxe-Quick Change Kit when changing calibers? Thanks for any help.
  7. Thanks for all the help, purchaced the marvel and happy with it first time out. The Kimber mags worked well
  8. Seems to be a lot of positive talk for the glock models, anyone have experience with the 1911 version or another company the produces them, that work well. Thanks
  9. On his forum he is discussing when it may be acceptable to make UP a hit that lands in the C or D portion of the target. It is based on what he calls the "stage factor". Unless i am confused, he determines this prior to shooting the stage??? How do you do that, as I have read some quotes that state that a 8 stage is neutral and lower than that (IE 3) requires a bit more accuracy than speed V's higher ( like a 10 stage factor). All searches here have resulted in more confusion I'm definitely just a shoot all A's as fast as i can guy, but would like to maybe start to analyze the game a little more Thanks for any help.
  10. Like most of us, he is loading what he can afford. I have been out of town for some time and sill shoot outdoors tomorrow to see where I stand. Hope to have the same results as you outdoors Thanks for the reply.
  11. Yes they are, so that may be part of it. I also have some 230 precision black moly to try out, will that be any different?? Thanks in advance for any opinions
  12. Loaded my first group of .45's on my new 550 with 230 grain FMJ from Zero (OAL 1.25) & 3.6 grains of Clays. I was forced to shoot inside and noticed the rounds were kinda smokey. Has anyone else experienced this before. I was using a friends recipe and never noticed it when he shoots, but I normally seem him at competitions and we are outdoors. We both shoot 5" 1911 single stack. Thank you
  13. I found this searching a day or so later "In my experience WSF is conventionally temperature sensitive... that is, it slows down as temperature drops. Also noted that it does not increase velocity in linear proportion to increased charges... in other words, the velocity will "flatten out" even if you keep increasing the powder charge. At the chrono, if you notice that it "stops getting faster" even though your charge is increasing, STOP. The good news is that it is really easy to make major PF in 40 without getting anywhere near the max load." Do you disagree or is WSF just so less temp sensitive that peoples experiments seem to vary, do to different guns/barrels or other variables other than temp. It may also have to do with the "flatting out" that was talked about.
  14. I live in northeastern IL and the temp could change on any given spring /fall day by 25 degrees in either direction. I was thinking of switching over to TG from WSF for 9mm production and giving it a try. 1) In my searches, I have found TG to be more temp sensitive?? Am I correct? 2) Is WSF considered to be sensitive ( seems to be different opinions on that, all agree that its cleaner) and if so, higher temps equal lower or higher velocity?? The state match is coming up I don't want to stay around 127PF by my chrono and then shoot and have a surprise. I have two sets of loads made up, one at 127 and one at 131. DAMN lee powder disks. Thanks for any opinions.

    GM/M combined

Help, what is HOA Thanks, newbee (far from it I'm sure)
  16. There is a group of guys at a club up here who swear by .45 in L-10. "Real men shoot .45 in L-10" was the quote. 1) What is the breakdown in your area? 2) what do/would you choose and why? Thanks
  17. There seems to be two schools of thought on the "basic weight" of the weapon. Some tell me they prefer the lighter front end for transitions (even with cut outs of the slide to help) while others say go heavy for quicker sights back on target. According to the STI website, the edge has been there most popular limited gun. I know it is and individual thing, and to custom make the gun to your specifications is ideal, but I am talking about a first time purchase for someone who doesn't have "specifications" yet. Just asking others to try out their guns is a start, but I am looking for some "experienced" USPSA/ISPC feedback on what you use & how your thoughts on it may have changed over time. Thanks
  18. I got myself a CR speed belt and mag pouches for my production set up and just got the holster at the same time, knowing i would eventually save up for a Limited gun. We have all steel tournements around here that play by USPSA divisions and rules. I shoot my 9mm, with the entire rig, in them and do fine. Other than the disadvantage of minor scoring, why wouldn't I try it out in limited to get a "feel" for the division. It would also definitely help me by making me slow down a bit to hit all "A's" focusing on the 90-95% "shoot A's" goal I have read about. My ego isn't so large that I can't sometimes take a little beating in Limited I know where I stand in production and single stack. I was thinking of shooting my SS in L-10 major with the rig also. The dedicated limited gun is in the future, just not yet due to $$$$. Any opinions would be appreciated, thanks Thanks
  19. Shoot single stack as you seem to be comfortable with the gun, Winchester white box for your ammo, keep it all simple as far a holster and mag pouches, and shoot all A's as fast as you can hit all A's. Start saving you brass and throw some $'s into the bank, this sport IS addictive. You can upgrade to anything in the future. Have fun, its almost impossible not to. I salute you for joining USPSA as soon as you did. We must support the sport and stay strong in these times. Congrats.
  20. I am waiting to achieve a personal goal before I will "allow" myself the purchase a 2011 style gun in the future. It will all depend upon my performance with a fine handgun I have now, but it is in 9mm and I want to shoot major. No big deal, but does anyone know if STI does a yearly price increase and if so, around what time of year? Thanks for any help in advance.
  21. I was recently at a match , where an overzealous RO (he was not even the match director) conducted the safety meeting. Prior to the match, he went around and painted knives or guns on ALL threat targets with MOST of them right around the -0 /-1 perforation somewhere. He then stated in the meeting that any hits (full circumference) on the black paint of the guns/knives would be scored hard cover/misses. There was debate on his interpretation of the rule book (pg 47). I say, even if a bullet were to hit a gun/knife, it would still do some damage to the target. Anyway, has anyone ever encountered this nonsense before. The MD didn't even score his squad that way, but I was unfortunate to wind up in the goofballs squad. The results of the match nil, as everyone in my squad his multiple black paint throughout the day. Just wondering, thanks.
  22. Or plated bullets, unless there is something there that i don't know about, but they are completely covered.
  23. +1 for two 34's. If she was going with a 19 for some personnel reason, (smaller size etc.) i would understand. The 34 is more their competition model and you will her shooting it in the future and you will be shooting the 17. I have been known to be wrong when it comes to females, though
  24. Some one told me that the factory trigger pull weight is 5.5 lbs. Someone else said the wasn't really the weight, just a factory number. With the 3.5 lighter and the 8 and 11 NY style heavier "One out of the box is going to be closer to 9lbs due to rough trigger parts." was another quote They sell different connectors and trigger springs also. Can anyone explain it in terms that aren't exclusive to a glock armorer. Thanks
