  2. This is a great match: always a lot of fun and well run. Good chance for IDPA folks to shoot a USPSA match too, since there's no Open or Limited guns
  3. Awesome! Thanks for making the shift to avoid conflict with the Factory Gun Match at WAC: let us know what we can do to help push your match.
  4. Stages are set up and look really good: still a few slots left if you wanna' shoot www.matchsignup.org
  5. Stages are posted at www.matchsignup.org 228 Rounds if you count the 8 Chrono rounds Staff letter out tomorrow dan
  6. Great match! Smooth flow, fun stages, and excellent staff. Special thanks to David J. for hosting the Tampa mob at his house. I hope we didn't break anything.
  7. I am recovering from the stage building party this weekend with a couple of observations. This match is going to be awesome in the truest sense of the word: the stages are absolutely gonna’ rock your world, but here are some suggestions/questions: 1) How far can you run and still shoot straight? You better plan to move some distance and still shoot some distance. 2) You also should not be scared of Prop Activators that include pounding stakes in vampire hearts, lifting coffin lids, flipping electrocuting switches, or blasting zombies with a shotgun (remember that these activators are just part of the stages- you still have to try to shoot fast, accurate, etc) 3) The graveyard/all steel stage is a little different this year: you folks with solid black front sights may get a surprise. 4) The costume contest seems like it is going to push this match off the map: I say do it, wear a costume. The stages are going to be amazing; why shouldn’t you?
  8. Hey Match Staff: It's the Monster Match, we really HAVE to wear costumes when we shoot on Friday; no excuses. We owe it to the shooters...and America. Don't be scared.
  9. So at last night's match we had some rules questions on shooting in costume: 1) When wearing a costume that doesn't have belt loops, (gorilla suit, G-string, etc) how do we ensure compliance with USPSA equipment rules? 2) Since the staff are the judges for the costume contest, can they compete in the contest?
  10. This is a great example of how hard work, followed by serious self-assessment, then followed by more hard work can eventually pan out. Seeing someone win who is a great shooting coach, a willing Match Staffer, and a stridently honest competitor is a terrific example for everyone in the sport. Shannon's win is not just great for him (and it is great for him), but is great for USPSA: RLTW! 813!
  11. Where in Florida? Lotsa clubs here, and chances to shoot.
  12. Joey- I'd suggest contacting Springfiled direct on this. Depending on what you hear about fitting (may not be required) and if they just want you to send them the cracked barrel, I have a new XD Tactical that we can pull the barrel out of and put in your gun while you wait to get your barrel back from Springfiled. dan
  13. Curtis- You might not remember me, but I worked the Double Tap with you in the snow: good news on beating the odds. dan
  14. also look at these two: http://centralfloridasection.com/ http://www.wacactionshooting.com/ they each have a link to the Pro-Am in Frostproof in mid July (you want steel, that match has some steel) dan
  15. So I am that guy, the MD for the FL IDPA Match. As stated previously by others, we (I) got caught flat-footed by the new DM Class change that happened in the weeks before our match. The scoring software obviously didn't account for the change, and we (I) didn't see it as the biggest problem I had to deal with just before and during the match, so didn't have a good plan for dealing with it. As a result, yes, we screwed up the awards. Gordon did in fact, get called forward for an award that he had to refuse. I had never met him before this weekend, but was very impressed by the the way he handled this awkward situation. He shook my hand and thanked me, told me how much he enjoyed the match, then said he was sorry he could not accept the award and that I needed to bump all the other SSP Masters up. I was not as quick on my feet as I could have been and responded with something like "huh?" and proceded to hand out the rest of the awards. At the end of the ceremony I announced that we had screwed it up and were able to get most folks what they deserved, but it was arguably the biggest screw-up of an otherwise pretty good match. We have since corrected the awards, and have re-posted scores showing him as "Unclassified" as a way of trying to more accurately reflect the new rules for his Class. I feel bad for not having a good plan for dealing with the new Class, for possibly embarassing an outstanding shooter and sportsman, and for making this the thing from the match that some people seem to focus on, (but at least it is taking some attention away from the lunch on Saturday). Again, it was a new rule/situation, we missed it, and we're fixing it. Thanks again to all that sponsored, worked and shot the FL IDPA State Match!
  16. Ricky- Go to www.wacactionshooting.com and www.centralfloridasection.com for info on local clubs and matches: there is a lot of shooting in the Tampa area. dan
  17. As part of the stage building crew I just got a look at the stage designs: this is going to be an awesome match! If you don't get signed up and shoot this match you will probably not only regret it as another terrible decision on your part, but may end up developing problems shooting and performing sexually (for the rest of your life). Go to www.matchsignup.org to save yourself the disapointment of missing this match (and perhaps other disappointments).
  18. Match is sold out! Whether it was because of the on-line registration and squading, (thanks Jay!) the discounts for early registration/returning shooters, or just match popularity, we have essentially sold out the match (after being open for less than a week!). We thought that the match would sell out, just as it has for the last two years, but were pretty surprised to sell out so quickly. To those of you that are registered to shoot; thank you for showing the confidence in our ability to run a worthwhile match, and for spending your hard earned money on a match that won’t happen for another four months. We take your commitment pretty seriously, and will do our utmost to make sure you are not disappointed. For those that provided stage designs and have volunteered to work the match, again you have our thanks. Like all matches, excellence in “Stages and Staff” are the key. We have been flooded with stage design suggestions and offers of help, so cannot complain about lack of support. For those that want to shoot the match but did not get signed up in time, all is not lost. We have established an on-line “Stand-By” List at www.matchsignin.org . Because the match fee is 100% refundable up to Jan 28th, there are bound to be some cancellations and slots opening up. We may be adding a few more staff shooters, so those of you counting will see our numbers grow past 250. There will also continue to be a few additions as we get sponsored shooters. We held back a few shooter slots in anticipation of sponsorships. Our policy includes providing shooter slots to sponsors that provide a minimum of $500 in prizes or goods to support the match. General match information, including sponsorship information is available at www.wacactionshooting.com . Again, thanks for showing the support and making this match a success! Dan Bernard-Match Director
  19. in the first 24 hours that registration has been open 93 shooters have signed up. It's probably safe to say that the match will sell out (max of 250 shooters). For sure the selection of schedule and squads is getting smaller, so if you plan to shoot and want to have much choice of schedule/squads, you may want to get on it. Thankyou to all that have already signed up!
  20. Registration is now open for the 2011 IDPA Florida State Championship. Got to: www.matchsignup.org for on-line registration and squading. Match will be held 11-13 March at the Wyoming Antelope Club, 3700 126th Ave N, Clearwater, FL 33762. Like last year’s match, clubs from throughout the state will design and run fun and challenging stages, making this a very popular match. We sold out before the match over the last two years, and with the on-line registration expect to sell out even sooner. Sign up early to get first choice of schedule and squads. I will contact club POC’s with discount codes for the SO’s working their stages, but we may need a few more SO’s. If interested, contact me at bernardd@baytobay.org. Further information on the range and match will be posted on www.wacactionshooting.com Hope to see you on the range, Dan Bernard, Match Director
  21. The Monster Match 2007 was my first big match: I stunk it up pretty good, but wasn't scared to go do it and have been hooked on the game ever since. Having shot a buncha major matches since then, I would say that if you want to shoot an awesome one day match, and to be able to say you did something pretty unusual, you need to get out there next weekend. Don't be intimidated by the round count or athletics, (honestly, swinging on a big rope over a moat is stupid easy; it's the one-handed shooting while hanging on little ropes that is hard), you need to get off the fence and come shoot the match that everyone will be talking about for a long while. You would be a zombie not to.
  22. What program are you using to draw this and get all these different views? It looks good.

    Aces and Eights

We just shot a local match with a "seated at table, holding cards" start. The stage designer was explaining to a young couple the significance of the cards he had selected as props; a pair of Aces and a pair of Eights. "This is supposedly the hand of cards that Wild Bill Hickock was holding when he was shot and killed." he said. "Really?, we did not know that" was their response. So I piled on with "Really? You were born and grew up in America and don't about Wild Bill Hickock?" The young husband, we'll call him "Cliff," politely mumbled something about History not being his favotite subject in school, but the young wife, whose name rhymes with "Tammie" turned and faced me and said: "Yes, we were born and raised in America, just not in the same generation as you and your friend Wild Bill." ...I guess you gotta' know when to fold 'em.
  24. for matches in Tampa area, suggest you go to www.wacactionshooting.com. In addition to info on the Wyoming Antelope Club (WAC), there are usefull links. Come out to the WAC and watch a match and find an RO to tell you what's what. see you on the range
