  1. Are you getting some cheek slap like me? I don't have the same issue with either my FN SLP or VersaMax so wondering if the stock is just too high out of the factory.

I don't like how far down I have to crush my face to the stock for the front sight to naturally line up without it being to high. This might be part of your problem. I hope the extra spacer and plate will drop it down further than the 55 to 60 mm drop it is out of the box per the manual.

  2. The guide rod head has a round section at the very rear. S_I require a smaller diameter in this area than traditional 1911's. Do you have a 2011 frame style? Even if not check that the guide rod head fits square against the frame.

I Ross, I am still very happy with my STI 45,W/ alloy short railed dust cover frame, you built for me. The gun in question is another STI in 40 cal. If it matters the tungston guide is from Brazos and I tried my original reverse plug and one from Dawson to no avail. The Brazos head is much larger than my original guide rod. I can not tell if it fits square against the frame. Does anyone offer a tungston guide rod with the smaller head assuming the head diamiter is the problem?

  3. Is this the Stag 3G? If so, there are two models, one for restricted states and the other is not. The one sold to restricted stages (most easily recognized by the 10 round mag that comes with it and the fixed stock) has the comp pinned and the pin should be welded. I picked up one of these by accident and quickly sold it and got the unrestricted model (Magpul adjustable stock and 30 round mag) and I was able to put it in a vise and take the comp off. This was one of the very first models to hit the market a few years ago so not sure if it's changed now but I doubt it.

    Hope this helps...

Ya, I purchased mine this year,it came with a 30rd mag ,and the comp unscrewed replacing it with a Miculek.

  4. For reasons out of my control I am now shooting factory 40 cal. Previously, the 12.5 spring with my lower power factor load was a good fit. When I had to start using factory ,I switched to what I thought was a safer spring weight of 14# to protect my gun.

At the shorter distance targets, I noticed that quick doubles was not as consistent as I was acustomed to and wrote it off to me not concentrating ,but at my last match we had some steel much further out than normal with no shoots very close and slowed you way down between shots ,and to my surprise while I was completely concentrated on the front sight my gun was dipping very noticeable.

I am putting the ISMI 12.5 spring back in and hoping the factory ammo with pf,s ranging from 175 to 180 will not break my gun. I will be using a alum buffer just incase, does that sound alright ?

  5. My stag with the vortex razor at 25 ounces and their heavy SS barrel is very heavy.

I have already changed out every thing the gun came with except the heavy SS barrel, the barrel is next.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I don't think it's heavy but I also changed out a bunch of stuff.

Stag comp was changed to Benny Hill Rolling Thunder

Geiselle Super 3 gun trigger was changed to JP trigger.

    Grip was changed to Ergo

Milspec tac latch changed to BCM Gunfighter

    PRI gas buster

What all did you change and to what did you change it to?

    Miculec comp

    Timney single stage 3#

    JP NM carrier

    Magpul rifle MOE stock

    JP rifle buffer and spring

Today, I finally had a chance to run some drills. I had only three IPSC targets to work with. I worked on my splits and transitions. I had one stove pipe, after that the rifle worked fine with the three sizes of mags I bring to matches. Using the over grip midway down the forearm definitely is a improvement, if for nothing else, to keep a heavy gun up. Although, it handled better than I thought, it is still much heavier than I am used to.

I still may address the barrel weight by replacing or having it tuned down under the guard. As it is I can run and gun like the wind.
