  1. Geese are also birds as are Herrons BBs and T shot must be ok as well right?? I'm sure that there is a bird called an Emu that would be hunted with a single projectile so slugs HAVE to be ok!  How about a punt gun loaded up with a couple of hands full of nuts and bolts, they used those for bird hunting. Last bird I shot was with a 308 so maybe its allowed since it shot a bird? .......and now you know why we can't have nice things!!! ;)

  2. Failures?? Or do you mean malfunctions?  If we are truly talking failures, I would like to point out that Benelli inertia springs don't seem to break, where as the Stoeger does so with some regularity. Benelli,s don't seem to need their extractors replaced with Benelli extractors....like the Stoeger does. The disconnnect and Hammer sear on Benelli,s also don't tend to break. Next big thing is the receivers don't tend to crack as often (read almost never on Benelli).....those are failures.

Now this is not to run down Stoeger. It is a fine gun for the $$$ and with some simple upgrades it is a fine gun. It is no Breda, or Benelli but for the average 3-gunner it will do yeoman service, but it will need some Breda or Benelli parts for any semblance of longevity.

  3. Ahhhh....facebook......no wonder I can't see anything! But you already knew that. ;) I had heard that my buddys Kenny Anderson and Nathan Payne had put a whompin on some "prafeshunal shootahs" from down south ways, But I guess I'll just have to call em...thanks for the link though, maybe Seth can use it, my dinosaur arms just aren't long enough to reach the key board!    BTW my rotary phone still works if I crank it long enough.

  4. And I suspect that the base isn't fully seated on the flat top, it is real easy to get that particular mount with one of the cross bolts up on top of the flat instead of in the grove. Seen that before! Make sure that BOTH of the cross bolts are fully down in the slot cut in the upper receiver!

  5. First load two I ever saw was the German National team and the Swiss National team in Terni Italy at the first European Shotgun Championships in 2003, first Quads were from a Finish shooter at the 2011 Euros.

I doubt I was whoopin and hollering about quad loading Mark, as I have never been that impressed with it and still don't  do it. But Robbie was complaining about all the shotgun loading  of the new style 3-gun match and he said he didn't want to practice that much to get good, so I was telling him about twins and quads as a way to be competitive without the time consuming practice for Weakhand.

  6. Physically speaking they all drop like rocks........32 feet per second squared!

Use heavies if it makes you feel good. I have never seen the need for the ranges we shoot, but if they give you confidence, get er done! I only use heavies when I need penetration and am limited to a carbine caliber....and steel and paper DON'T need penetration. ;)

  7. I think Hurley's post falls nicely into the "meh, if you can shoot an AR-15 sub MOA hen you can shoot an AR-10" comment made right around post number 3!!!! Quit doubting yourself, get some good ammo and get to work. 308 isn't a mystery, there is tons of info on accuracy loads. The old standby is 42 grains of 4895 and a 168/175 grain Sierra Match King Bullet.

See you in Raton in a couple weeks!!! Kurt

  8. The best stage ever for shotgun. A dual spinner! You need to spin both....but in OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS!!!! No, your not done yet!!!! You have to stop them both as well. No humongo shells allowed. Now not only do you have to know your timing and be accurate, you have to know how much pattern will be enough to stop it. As soon as they are stopped a pair of crossing birds are thrown 90 degrees to the shooter, one to the left one to the right, and then hit a C zone at 107 yards with a slug for the stop plate. This tests every facet of shotguning
