  1. When did 3-Gun become soooo serious??? The cut out, according to the Benelli factory engineers, and boy have I spent time with them, is two fold. First and foremost is so that shell rims, which in NO WAY are standardized in Europe have the extra clearance to feed into the mag tube smoothly. Secondary and far down the list is guiding the shell into the chamber.....think about it!!! If the cut out of the old H&K guns was sufficient to "guide" the shell into the chamber, which it was, why would they make it even more pronounced and grabby on latter models? Benelli never caught on to the fact that if you bend the end of the carrier down at about an 8 degree angle ALL shell rims would clear!

Now come on that "fair chase" thing was gold! and "Codified Federal law"??? do you guys think it is easy to come up with this carp???:D

  2. The V cut is required by federal law from the "fair chase" section of codified U.S. Fish and Wildlife laws. The reader's digest version is that the animal has to have a chance even though small that the "operator" "might" get is thumb stuck or injured allowing the animal to flee unharmed.

It is also codified in the U.S. firearms act of 1927 that nothing can or shall come in contact with the priming system of a cartridge EXCEPT a striker of firing pin, and the cutout ensures compliance with federal law so that the primer can't get touch, as it is loaded, by any part of the firearm.

Remember that these are internet answers and may be, or not be true, but if technical sounding enough, and backed by government regulations, they must be true. ;)

  3. I don't know what Jesse has, I do know he got his a while back and if what you describe, it is an earlier gen 1. Yours is a very late gen one. The barrel is for a gen 2/3 and was being used on the very last of the gen 1 uppers in hopes the newer model gen 2 would be in production soon. The cut outs are for the barrel mounted ejector which is the way gen 2/3 guns are. There is no way I know of to run a different charging handle in a gen 1 receiver. Right now I am a very long way away from my .22 uppers and for the life of me can't remember what charging handle the gen 2/3 take. Sorry.

  4. And now I would pattern it very carefully with shot (buckshot some 4 or 6s and some 8s) and document it being a half pattern to the left as well and call them back. Most folks, unless they have really pattered their gun...aiming it like they would slugs.....really don't know where their pattern is in relation to the front sight.

Pretty poor response, and one of a few reasons I don't shoot for them any longer. I am surprised Carter wasn't more helpful, but he is probably constrained by corporate policy.....another reason.... ;)

  5. I'd get hold of Benelli and tell them your choke is bored and threaded off center and you would like a new barrel. Of course you can keep trying all sorts of different ammo and paying a lot for all of it and then send the barrel back ;)....... me, I'd go the cheap route. Call and ask for Carter Miller

  6. Integrate, shimtigrate...there is NOTHING right now precluding anyone from shooting from shooting a PCC in a major match!!!! If you think it is an advantage, cool! Accept the limitations of the system and SHOOT!!

What I am seeing are folks who want a special dispensation for their CHOICE!!!! Screw that!!! Wanna shoot it??? Suck it up!!!! Deal with your choice! Don't make a whole bunch of "womens tees" (sorry ladies didn't know what else to call it) to justify your short commings in carbine choice!!!!!

  7. I milled the right side down flat, keeping just enough metal to keep the THINNED STOCK BOLT HANDLE from turning. Milled off the front shield that covers the extractor. Milled off the top ridge on the bolt so you can access the cam pin slot for oiling without disassembling. Gave it my out of battery loading cut that I first did in 1996. Lightened the tail shaft, and run only a Benelli stock, standard weight recoil spring. Then I bought 10 inertia springs and kept the ones I felt were closest to ideal (3 out of 10).  The 1911 springs flex tied together never seemed to provide fast enough closing speed! ;)

  8. The same guys who value being able to drop the upper to access the bolt carrier group and lower parts without trying to fight a spring and plunger that wants to squirt out without it, under stress! ;)

If a rifle is properly set up at no time is there any stress on this part......but you got to know how. Maybe quit building rifles in the basement without a good understanding of what you are doing would help.

  9. The problem with the AR-10  we were working on was that once installed the bolt only went as far forward as the first weight on the carrier and locked up. You couldn't take the upper off because the bolt was locked up half way open. We had to unscrew the buffer tube and reach in from the back to depress the plunger. There is no way you could leave it in there as the gun will not operate at all!!! Glad your AR-15 works with it....although I'm  not so sure we are talking about a carrier with dead blow weights machined on it like the AR-10, but either way, your gun won't function at all, and have to be screwed apart if you don't  take the detention out first!!!

  10. Hey everyone, if you are installing  the new J.P. Enterprises AR-10 carrier with buffer weights on it, YOU MUST REMOVE THE BUFFER RETAINER PLUNGER AND SPRING!!! The directions say that this is optional....BUT IT IS NOT!!!!! If you don't, the plunger will get stuck between the first weights in the stack and you WILL have to take the stock off and use a small pick to depress the plunger. Thankfully I had the stuff to do it, otherwise it would be a screaming bitch to fix!! The directions say this is optional.....BUT IT IS NOT!!!!! Remove the detent!!!!!!

  11. So JR are you proposing to shoot a major 3 gun match with a Rossi remake of the Winchester model 92 in 454 Cassul?? Or an AR type platform in 10mm with hot ammo?.....although I got to admit the Rossi would indeed make a fine close range Elk thumper. Don't forget that several wags have built 45-70 revolvers, and there are 308 pistols out there as well as even larger cartridges. That doesn't  necessarily make them practice nor even invited to a pistol match, but as far as I know you could shoot any of them in a major 3-gun match right now....with absolutely no need to "integrate" them into the match as is. Which is my point right now, and before. NOTHING IS STOPPING A PPC IN A MAJOR 3-GUN NOW! WE don't need any special dispensation for the platform, nor any silly new rules!

The other point of my post was to mess with my amigo Mitch, who is known to show up and drink "rifle sized beers" in my shop occasionally after matches. :)
