Just a funny story. I ordered 1000 pieces of Federal brass from a dealer several years ago. The dealer somehow misspelled my street name on the shipping label, which was sent by FedEx. I received an email notification that it had been delivered but I didn't get it so I went online to research it and see it was delivered to the wrong address. And, it was the address of a major bank in downtown Boston. Not sure how that went over when someone opened up the package! The dealer took full responsibility for the error and sent out a new shipment. I wonder what they did with the brass at the bank???????? lol.

Thanks for the replys. It helps a lot. ATlDave, the prone position will actually be faster because you step back 2 or 3 steps from the start position, take the targets to either side (which will be tight shots) and then drop to take 2 other targets and the steel. it's the last position, so I wanted to add the risk. The other option for the poppers is to run to each side of the barricade which takes more time, to take the poppers risk free and the paper wide open. There are other targets but's thats the gist of it. My thought was what you all have said, the no shoots should not be getting hit by splatter. Now to argue with the powers that be!

I would keep your match registration and information documents handy and easily accessible. This is Mass law on large capacity magazines but I can't find anywhere whether or not it applies to 'non-residents' also: Magazine Capacity Restriction?YesYesMA Ch. 140 Sec. 121 Illegal to possess magazines of over 10 rounds capacity. Pre-ban magazines manufactured before September 13, 1994 are exempt from this restriction. You are also covered under FOPA (Firearm Owners Protection Act) which is a U.S. Federal Law. I have designed a stage that will have the option of going prone, or not, and risk vs reward. I have two poppers down range with no shoots about 8 feet behind them. The poppers are about 25 feet out. If you go prone at the center port, the no shoots are directly behind the poppers. If you go to either side of an angled barricade, because of the different angle, the no shoots are no longer behind the poppers and they are about 8 feet behind and 2 feet to the side of the poppers. It's been brought up that there could be an issue with splatter hitting the no shoots and it's frowned on for a major match. I believe we'll be using forward falling poppers. Would moving the no shoots out further than 8 feet help? Another thought is to build plywood boxes, sides and top only, about 8" deep, to put over the poppers. Any thoughts?

Thumbs up to Hogue. I really didn't want to go to short or medium colt rounds so I called them to see if they could relieve some wood on my Big Butt grip to help with the 38sp moon clips getting hung up when I ejected them. They said that they do it all the time and no problem. One week turn around, no charge. And they look awesome. It should also take care of the blister that I usually get at the base of my thumb after 200+ rounds of shooting.

Latest update - press cleaned and everything tightened up. One thing I noticed was that I needed to readjust the location of the loaded round bin holder where it attaches to the bench to keep it from interfering with the handle on the upstroke. It was loose where it was screwed into the bench and moving occasionally. Federal small pistol primers seat deeper than the federal magnum match and I also followed the suggestions on how to seat them with force, from this post. Gun came back this week from TK custom with a master action trigger job which included the speed hammer. Eli left it at 8lbs just in case I was still having a primer issue. I took it to the range to test and was able to get it down to 6 1/2 pounds. I think I could have gone even lighter but 6 1/2 feels really good. Amazing! Shot a match yesterday. 150 rounds. No misfires and functioned flawlessly. Happy lady here.

I inherited the wood big butts when I bought a gun. I put strips of skateboard tape on them.

I wanted to do a quick update. I took apart my press and cleaned and tightened everything. Meanwhile, my order of federal sp primers came in. A huge difference between priming with the regular sp and the magnum. I am able to seat them a bit deeper (along with using the recommendations of using my left hand to pull on the press and pushing really hard to seat them) and the other thing that I noticed was that the sp primers flow right into the primer tube whereas the magnum primers, I had to jiggle the primer tube to get them to go in. So, my unscientific analysis is that the magnum primers are indeed a bit bigger (or thicker) than the regular one.

I use the one made by 10mmdave. It works well for me. It holds 8 and the holders can be tightened or loosened by the screws.

I'm thinking a good cleaning and reassembly might help too. I'm going to try yours and the others suggestions. I guess I not only shoot like a girl, I reload like a girl too, lol.

So an 8 lb trigger should be working reliably on those. I'll just wait to see what happens at TK custom.

I don't know if you can see it well in this picture but the card slides right over the base of the case and doesn't hit the primers. And, there is a 'tiny' bit of light between the card and the primer.

Do you mean pull the press towards me as I'm seating the primer?

Midsouth shooters supply. $31.86/thousand. I was pretty surprised they had them in stock. I do feel a very slight depression when I run my finger over the primer. So, as others have pointed out, maybe there are other issues going on. It will be about a month before I get my gun back so I won't be able to test all the theories but meanwhile, I'm going to take my press apart and give it a good cleaning. Maybe that will help too. I know a lot of folks on here have said that they run a 550 and seat the primers with no problem.

Just ordered a bunch of regular federal small pistol primers. I have been using the federal magnum match up to this point. My problem is that on my 550 I can only seat them to barely below flush, thus my question about hand priming. Gun is off to TK custom for a master trigger job with a speed hammer so hopefully if any of the issues that you mentioned are present, they will be fixed.

Thanks for all the replies. So much still to learn! That's what I love about this forum. It makes sense, now that you explain it, that endshake and hammer rub would affect the ignition of the primer. But, that is way beyond my level of expertise to fix, although a video I just watched makes it look fairly straight forward. The good news is that my primary gun is off to TK custom for a trigger job with speed hammer so hopefully if that's an issue, it will be addressed. And, that was one of the reasons for my question about seating primers. I don't want to have an action job done and be held back from lightening my trigger because of primer seating issues. I have a spare sp primer bar so I'll play around with that though and see what I can do. I also ordered some federal sp primers. I'll hold off on buying a hand primer until I try everything else.
